They should just put a 15ft electric fence around the property and convert the building to jail cells. I'll bet they would keep the occupancy rate at 100% then. There would be no need for neighbors to complain about criminals on the loose either because there are more running free out there now.

That is a truly awful place and this is coming from a guy who remembers The Mall of Memphis, Hickory Ridge Mall, and the Southland Mall's of Memphis!

I agree... and this is coming from a guy who's spent weeks at a time in the worst parts of DC and Baltimore :tough:

Ah, drove by there the other day for the first time in years. Noticed the $1.50 movies and a general run-down appearance. Its kind of a shame. Had lots of good times there chasing girls and stuff back in the 80's.

I think I remember that place! I lived in Germantown back in '85 and we'd go to MoM and some other mall that was supposed to be "safer". Back then it seemed pretty nice and safe, but that was over 20 years ago...

Shame...

From the article: "One new tenant: the local police, who recently opened a recruiting station at the mall."

They should have done that a few years ago. My wife and I really liked that mall when we first moved to TN. Now we avoid the area.

We lived right by the mall when we first came to Tn.. Lived right on M-boro rd.. Can't believe I didn't have a gun on me back then...1996. Can't believe it has gotten worse. I grew up in Rochester, Ny...spent alot of time down in the city of Manhatten, and Hickory Hollow...wow...what a dump.

We would kick DC's and Baltimore's collective asses! :P

Mall of Memphis is a lot safer.....it's a field....unless you are a dead body and are getting dumped there......:P

Hickory Hollow went to hell when they opened the FUBU store there.

...must...resist...acronym...racism...

haha. but anyways, stores like that promote harmful stereotypes for our darker skinned friends and ruin this country.

A police recruiting station? Metro's looking for the cream of the crop aren't they?

Meh, it's the best move they could have made short of opening up a precinct inside of the mall.

Kinda like all the apartments in Antioch that offer free rent for a "courtesy officer".

It is a shame. Hickory Hollow was THE mall in the late 80's and early 90's. I forbade the family from going there 5 or 6 years ago and just recently did the same with Rivergate. They are nothing but gang hang outs now. Funny thing is Rivergate has properly "posted" basically saying they do not want my business. Good luck to them surviving on the thug's disposable income for purchases. :D

Made the mistake of going there last year to find photography equipment, before they opened a camera store at Providence in Mt. Juliet. What a hellhole. I was overwhelmed with the number of people wanting me to give them money, ride back to their apartment, etc.

You mean Mall of Murder, Hickory Hood, and Mall of Murder South lol

I worked at Hickory Ridge for a couple years after school. Was part of the long haired, Hot Topic crowd when I was in school and it was THE place to be. I loved that mall man. Then it just went to crap almost overnight. All the good stores left, along with the hot chicks, that's when I went too.

Ah nostalgia, pisses me off.
