Bill Maher Challenges Obama: "Stand Up For The 70 Percent Of Americans Who Aren't Crazy" (VIDEO)

On "Real Time" Friday night, host Bill Maher closed his show with some sharp words for the Obama administration with regards to how they have responded to criticism from figures such as Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin.

Maher called the White House "cowards" for allowing Van Jones to resign following a series of right-wing attacks and for capitulating to those who complained about the nature of Obama's back-to-school speech.

"The Democrats just never learn. Americans don't really care which side of an issue you're on as long as you don't act like p***ies," Maher said.

Maher then criticized Obama for trying to win over those who vehemently disagree with him, insisting that the president should instead "stand up for the 70 percent of Americans who aren't crazy."

"When are we going to actually show up in all this," Maher said.

Bill Maher is someone I disagree with 99% of the time, but do have respect for him. Granted he is a comedian, but at least he takes into account the bigger picture.

A whole lot of liberals are mad at Obama for trying to get along with the Republicans...for trying to be conciliatory, forgiving, to find compromise.

God knows, with the persuasve power he has over his supporters it would be easy for him to rile them up to the kind of intensity seen on the right and probably pass legislation he wants without Republican support which is what Maher is suggesting. It might result in considerable violence too which would look bad on his resume. I think he's playing it this way--be calm, conciliatory, civilized, measured and let the far right continue to exhibit itself in freakout mode to the moderate majority. That's how to get re-elected and, if the right becomes sufficiently marginalized, to get legislation passed. It has also occurred to me that, if congress sends him a half-assed healthcare bill he would veto it and let his congressional opponents run next year having to tell Jim Bob why he has to go bankrupt for his wife to get cancer treatment. He's the most skilled politician i've ever seen (I'm 61), regardless of whether you agree with his policies, and it's damned interesting watching him work....and he's only been in office 8 months.

Examples? Specifics?

what.. you mean in politics? I was just tossing out a loose association between warfare and politics. Like getting the Mujahideen to fight the Soviets for us in the 80's.. something like that. I'm just saying I love it when the Left eats their own.

Obama does NOT want to get along with the GOP. He wants the GOP to sign off on his ideas, thus, when they blow up and screw up the country he can claim the GOP agreed with him.
