Removing some really dumb engraving

looked at at 870 express magnum today was a pretty nice gun. . .but some "genius" engraved the word tank and some numbers in the side of has a flat black finish . . kinda grainy like powder coat any ideas on best way to fix it

I'm no Gunsmith, but for an 870 would strip all the original finish off the receiver,fill in the "mistake" with auto body filler compound, sand to a smooth even finish, then duracoat the receiver in desert tan. Between the sanding, compound, and duracoat, "tank" should disappear and it will have a cool, durable finish.JM:2cents:

Is it possible that "tank XXXXXX" could have been used to ID the gun as belonging to a para military, defense group, some kind of government agency? Could be some history there:dunno:

Probably belonged to a tactical mall ninja unit.
