Range Report- Glock 20

Recommended Posts

I've had a 10mm fetish for a little while now. I finally decided on the Glock 20. I picked the full size over the G29 for a few reasons: 1)I wanted to shoot the heavier 10mm loads and the large frame should be better for recoil 2)I'm not going to carry it 3)I like the higher capacity magazines (15+1).

I bought mine at Craig's Firearms in Knoxville and was out the door for right at $500 (military pricing, includes 3 magazines). I ordered some 165gr FN reloads from Georgia Arms and had them in about three days. I also picked up some Hornady 180gr XTPs and ordered another 500 rounds of 180gr JHP "Canned Heat" from Georgia Arms that is currently backordered.

On Wednesday I had the afternoon free so I went up to ORSA. Got there around 2pm and had the whole plinking range to myself. I put up a target stand and threw out some golf balls, tennis balls, and an old plastic coffee can. I ran 50 rounds of the GA reloads through it and had zero issues. I would have liked to shoot more but I was only able to get 200 rounds and I didn't want to burn through all of it in one session. I shot off-hand and intentionally limp wristed it and couldn't make it have a problem. The recoil is snappy but manageable. By the end of it I was able to walk the coffee can from 7 yards out to about 20.

I think I'm going to add a Streamlight TLR-1 and make this my bedside gun after I've run a few more rounds through it. Think I may try some Double Tap and some Buffalo Bore, but I don't expect any problems with either.

As for the obligatory pictures, I don't have any. Sorry. I promise you though, it looks just like a Glock. :usa:

I'm no expert.... BUT.... 16 rounds of "full power" 10mm in a Glock20SF is a about the perfect ratio of cost/performance. Sweet buy, and we want pictures of full power loads at dusk/dawn please.

Nice read. I have the 29 and love it usually keep it bedside with 15 of Double Tap's Equalizer round (2 bullets per shot). 10mm is one of the most versatile pistol rounds out there never had a issue with mine either no suprise though.

Sounds like a great buy. Love the Glock. Congrats!

Just out of curiosity, I've never shot a 10mm. How does it compare to the .40 or to the .357?

Think .40 bullet weight with .357 velocity. Nasty combination.

I still carry my G29 on occasion, loaded with Double Tap 155 gr. controlled expansion JHPs. A G20SF has been on my short list for a while now. Congratulations!

I have a G20 as well. LOVE the gun and the round. The thing shoots like a laser and hits like a cannon. My only gripe is the size of the grip, and one day I'll fix that with a trip to Robar.

Now you need the ultimate accessory for a G20...a G29!

Just sell it to me cheap and buy the SF model. I like the big Glock grip.

That is why I waited for the SF model. The Glock 21 and 20 were on my list for a couple of years, I just did not like the grip, the SF models fit my hand perfectly
