SR9 Range Report!

Well, finally got to the range to try out the SR9 and I indeed like this gun. Accuracy at all ranges was excellent. Ran 250+ rounds of mixed Speer Lawman 115g, Wolf 115g, Federal HST 124g+p, and Blue Bunny 124g +p+. No problems at all. Everything feed great and there were no malfunctions of any kind. Sights are very easy to pick up and even though they are adjustable, they were spot on. The trigger was OK. Reset was minimal and break was clean but hard. There is a little take up and then a hard break with creep. There is a noticeable click when the trigger reset which is good, but it almost hangs right before the reset. Similar to the pull. Kinda like a hard Glock trigger. I will definitely be adding the Ghost trigger mod. With a lightened trigger I think I will really like this gun as long as it doesn't get mushy. It needs more breaking in and I'm looking forward to giving it what it needs. :P

Definitley feels like something that will smooth out, but I don't think it will get where I want it without the Ghost mod. I will say that of all the SR9c's I've tried, their triggers are much better than the full size. Supposedly they are the same but the compacts have always been better OTB.

I looked at a SR9c and really liked the feel of it. I am waiting awhile to see if there are any issues with gun.

Wayne the Compact's are the "Gen 4" of the SR9. The full size was the guinea pig and it appears all the quirks have been worked out.

C'mon, Nate.

Blue Bunny? Are you serious?

You can get it cheaper somewhere else.

Nice gun / review

Haha! Maybe, but it is good stuff. Plus like it says, what AG is really going to argue malicious intent while claiming I used deadly and ferocious Blue Bunny as my carry ammo!:death:

Blue Bunny--the ammo with the tame name; but it sure isn't lame. I've shot John and He-who-mustn't-be named's ammo in 38/9/40/45. All of it is excellent. Very clean burning, left little residue to clean up. My personal fav is John's 185 loads for my short 45's. The "plinky" load 38 is great for getting wife or girlfriend into a 38 cal revolver. My wife didn't like to shoot most 38 rounds, but found these comfortable and doesn't bother her in the SW 637 like others.

I also use Blue Bunny and have fired the 9/357/38/45/10 with excellent results. The old school 158gr lead bullet .38spl is a favorite.

Hard to beat the price at 11. 00 a box.

Removal of the Mag Disconnect seems to have smoothed out my trigger some. YMMV.

I decided to remove the mag disconnect on mine today & I'm glad I did. When I pulled everything apart, there were some metal flakes & grit in the striker housing left from assembly (shame on Ruger). I took some Q-Tips, (the best gun cleaners ever invented) & oil and cleaned everything out & then polished all the metal parts that make contact. Pull weight feels the same, but the trigger is smoother than ever...I don't know if the polishing did it or removing the mag disconnect or combo of both.

I got a SR9c back in April and I really love this gun! I've never had a single problem with it and have never had a FTE - FTF, it simply eats everything with no problems. I like the ambidextrious features since I'm a lefty and its a very decent CCW as well. I have a Don Hume holster for a Glock 27 that works perfectly for it as well.

Since the safety was modeled after the standard gi 1911 feel/design I am hoping that someone will make an aftermarket safety like the oversized ones in the current 1911 market. Would make the gun just about perfect IMHO

Maybe, but Ii leaave the safety off when I'm carrying. No different than a Glock/XD etc. It is nice to be able to use it at home when the kids are around.
