National Security....

As long as the American Hunter retains his right to bare arms, America will forever be safe from foreign invasion of troops.

In WWII, Japan's highest ranking naval officer was Isoruku Yamamoto. Although he was Japanese, and his loyalties were unquestionably with The Empire, he studied for many years in America, graduating from Harvard University. There is an oft-repeated (and sometimes disputed) quote attributed to him regarding the possibility of any nation taking a war to American soil:

"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."

Here is why he was correct:

America's Hunters… “The World's Largest Army.â€

The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That's great, considering there were over 600,000 hunters that got permits this year.

Allow me to restate that number.

Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world - more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined - deployed to the woods of a single American state to keep the deer population under control.

But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania. Michigan's 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia, and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

And that is just FOUR states.

The total population of registered hunters in America today ranges from 23 million, to 43.7 million individuals, based on annual data provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

As long as the American Hunter retains his right to Bare Arms, America will forever be safe from foreign invasion of troops and our government.

Hunting - it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

We should be like some other countries and make military service mandatory at 18 for at least one year. And issue a military rifle and pistol to everyone upon completing their service. Require "re-qualification" every 4 years or so just to keep skills relatively sharp.

Those steps would drastically reduce crime, gangs, drugs, obesity, and improve national security. And as a bonus all the Anti's would move to Canada out of disgust at the idea of being required to keep a gun in their home.

I like your line of thinking. However, I would let everyone supply their own rifle/handgun for qualification. And, everyone 18-55 would have to qualify, have their designee qualify for them, or pay a $1000 "fine" for not qualifying.

I personally don't think military service should be mandated, we have the best military in the world. And, I works just fine as an all volunteer service.

Maybe the military service could be swapped out for some form of civil service.

I like the "use your own gun" twist. Maybe something like: you will be issued one of our standard guns or receive a voucher to use at your local gun shop if you choose to buy your own, so long as the one you buy meets the specifications.

I really like the dream of redefining the term gun control to mean "know where your gun is and how to use it".

This sounds familiar, kinda like obamcare...Making these requirements would take away from our freedoms. Some people just plain don't like guns. And that is fine by me.

But requiring someone to have a gun and re-qualify is just like requiring someone to have federal mandated health care, or pay a fine.

Although I likes these ideas, I would have to be against them

Nowhere in the constitution does it give the power of the government to require us to to be armed.

It says we have the right, not that the government has to make us armed.

You spoil all my fun. I'd be mad if you weren't exactly right. As much as I like the idea it is in opposition to the main point which is Liberty.

I say two years min active. with active reserve duty for 2-6 yrs. Takes 6 months to get a semi Skilled soldier Sailor or Airman trained.....Someone calculate how Massive our military force would be if we started this 10 years ago.
