This little beauty is my newest purchase from Midway USA. I know the quality of Smith and Wesson's M&P series pistols, but what about their knives? Anybody have any experience with them at all? It will be my general purpose/first line of defense knife when I carry my 1911.

Any feedback is received with great curiosity. lol

S&W pistols are made in the USA by S&W.

S&W knives are imported from China by Taylor Brands.

There is a post about "Smith knife quality?" over at The High Road.

I have only owned one S&W knife but threw it in the trash after little use.

Always good to research and gather information before you purchase. After a little Googling, it appears that the blade for this knife has a very low quality stainless steel (4034), so I wouldn't expect too much from it.

I have just recently become interested in knives and the different kinds of blade steel used, but am still very much a novice. I am currently looking for a good folder with S30V steel at a good price.

Generally considered lesser quality to junk. Highly touted by mall ninjas as good value, though.

There are a any number of Chinese made US branded lines that are actually of quite good quality for the price, but the SW line isn't one of them.

One Chinese line I really like is Rough Rider. I have two of them. One's a little copperhead and the other is a Scout. The fit and finish are very good. The blades are sharp and hold up well. For $12, they are a quality pocket knife. They aren't tacticool, but I'm not much into that anymore. My Svord Peasant with black plastic scales, is about as tacticool as I get.

I'm not a snob at all; recently acquired knives by SRM, Bee, and Enlan, all outstanding (they have made many "USA" branded knives also). After all the various neck knives I've tried, have currently settled on a Chinese Meyerco. My second fav necker is a Chinese Boker.

Also carry a US Spyderco and US Buck. My point is, I choose the knife for its merits and suitability for my purpose. All else being equal, I opt for American, but sometimes there's really no choice, even if I would pay more for US (within reason -- 'bout $125 is pretty much my personal limit on knife, at least so far :yuck:).
