New 1911!

Ok, this one is not mine. Mine is in the hands of the USPS on the way to my FFL for transfer. Sometime this week I will be the owner of a new Springfield Lightweight Champion Operator. I really wanted to buy a 1911 sometime this year as my way of commemorating the 100th anniversary. I probably should have bought a Colt Government model...or at least a non-railed gun. However, I've been wanting one of these for some time now and they're apparently somewhat difficult to find. It'll work.

As the owner of that same pistol, I can say that you should not be disappointed. I traded for one several years ago and have been very satisfied with it. Mine was showing a little wear and use marks, but other than a good cleaning and a new recoil spring, I have not had any problems with it.

That answers one question I had. I wasn't sure how well the finish holds up under normal use on these. Based on what I've read the ArmoryKote finish is pretty decent.

Congratulations! Post some real pictures of it when it comes in!

Thanks! I will. Hoping it will be ready for me to pick up tomorrow. I've been pleased with the service I received from the company I bought it from so far. Ordered it from Kentucky Gun Company. They seem to have a nice selection and their site is easy to navigate. I ordered on Monday night, they called me Tuesday afternoon to let me know they just received my FFL's information but I missed the day's last pickup time for USPS. It went out this morning via Priority Mail and should be at my FFL tomorrow or Friday.

Yeah it's always exciting to get a new gun I recently got sick with the addiction to 1911s. I'm going to check out their site and day dream.

Welcome to the 1911 club it's like a Harley a piece of history American made

Ohh its not my first, lol. I'm a victim of the 1911 sickness. This one makes 3 but is by far the nicest one I have. I'd love a custom (Nighthawk, etc), but I don't have that kind of budget.

Shot it today. Perfect! 250 rounds, 200 230gn FMJ (WWB) and 50 Remington JHP. Assorted mags (2x factory, a Nighthawk, and a Wilson Combat).

The lightweight frame seems to transfer slightly more recoil than my all steel GI model, but it is not unpleasant at all.

All 250 rounds went bang without fail. Accuracy-wise, it was more accurate than I am. Follow up shots are quick and the factory sights provide an excellent sight picture.

The weight just feels so much lighter than an all steel 1911, even though I think it still weighs in at around 31oz. It has enough heft to absorb a decent amount of recoil but is lightweight enough to make all day carry comfortable.

I think I'm confident enough at this point to pick up a holster and throw it into my carry rotation.
