Couldn't wait.......

Probably shoulda waited till it was truly done, but .......

I got my newest AR up to 95% finished tonight. I'm pretty amped about it.

I had to downgrade from my original build plan a bit. I was going to go with a Yankee Hill upper, YH freefloat, and a Saturn barrel, but my wallet has given out on me. I grabbed a complete upper from J&T and to be honest, I think I like it just as good. If it shoots well, I know I will like it just as good. Especially considering I saved almost $400 going this route and I managed to get a bunch of other stuff at the show I have been needing; Not the least of which is a Winchester model 120 12g. I have a 120 20g, now I have it's bigger brother. YAY FOR ME!

Build starts with a

*Tactical Innovations Lower

*Tango Down Battle grip

*Timney trigger

*Magpul CTR - That I am in serious need of swapping out for a black one, see my classifieds ad.http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/gear-classifieds/65967-ar-stock-please-help-trade-only.html

*Magpul ASAP end plate

*J&T Upper - SS 1/8 barrel, free float tube, J&T Dragon brake

*SI BCG

I gotta settle on an optic, I have a nice Nikon scope waiting on it, I think that's where I'm going.

Check out the over size take down pins, and the dust cover;) The cover I had engraved by the Harford Engraving company. Great guys.

Nice job. Should be real accurate too.

Hope so. Never run a 1/8 before. Only 1/7 or 1/9's

I knew for a fact that the original plan would have very accurate. I'm fairly confident in this too. I know I am glad I went with a heavy contour instead of the .920. I handled a couple of .930's they are very nose heavy. This 16 stainless heavy barrel balances VERY nice for me. That's another reason I went for it.

I'm hoping it'll do well with ALL of my current .223 loadings. A 50g soft point [midway dogtown] A 62g steel core & a 75g HPBT match.

Okay, I wasn't going to do this, but I can't help myself. I gotta tell you guys about this J&T upper. First off, let me say the guy on the phone DID agree to take it back, so the fact that I did NOT send it back is totally on me. I accept that. It had many problems. First off, the gas block was not set back against the barrel shoulder and the gas port didn't line up. 6 shots and none cycled. I don't know if the handguard was too long or just that the picatinny gas block was too tall to fit under the carbine length free float rail. The barrel was turned correctly so it wasn't the shoulder set back too far. I don't like sending stuff back; Paranoia I'll never see it again or have to wait six months. I ordered a Troy industries low profile gas block and I already had a Yankee Hill tube, so that fixed that. I also wanted the longer rifle length guard so nows the time. Well the threads were the same but they bottomed out on the new guard before they tightened all the way down, so I pulled the barrel nut. Here's where my jaw hit the floor. It wasn't even close to tight. The pins on my wrench are a snug fit in the holes of the nut so I had to jiggle it a little, and the jiggling turned the nut! That bugger wasn't tight at all, AND my dumb butt had fired it!!!!! Removing the nut showed the threads were not damaged but they were dry. No grease or antiseize. Grrrrr. I pulled the barrel to check the barrel extension. At least it was tight. It only took 40 ft lbs to line up the gas tube holes so it's good now. Minimum 30lbs I didn't see a need in super torquing it.

I'll be having a talk with the guys at J&T when I get a chance. I don't want anything tangible from them, but they're gonna get an earful. That could have been a catastrophic failure and you guys could have very well lost your beloved Caster:drama:

Seriously guys. Look your stuff over!!!

Be safe out there!
