Hard to find and expensive as miltary issue ammo. Our government does not believe that it is appropriate for anyone but military to have tracers, sdo it cannot be imported any more.

The 7.62x39 tracer bullet is .311 and 124gr. Using a .308 US 148gr tracer bullet will not yield the same trajectory or accuracy as normal 7.62x39 ammo. You will probably need to reduce the powder load significantly to accomodate the 20% heavier bullet.

Wouldn't the formula for the tracer powder be available online somewhere? (I really don't know, but seems likely). Then couldn't you either make your own to match, or at least modify the color of the tracer if you wanted?

I personally would not risk it. However it is interesting to read how to make things. Found this pamphlet earlier which describes a home method, assuming that a person would be competent and/or foolish enough to tolerate the risk. This pamphlet does describe some of the risks and precautions.
