Fresh crop of "zombie-proof" houses on Yahoo

Recommended Posts

They roll this old mare out when news is slow with a few updates. I guess it's slow again.

I know we have seen some of these before (like #1), but a few were new to me.

I think I like #4 the best. Some good fishing out there and self sufficient on energy. I wonder what they do for fresh water. It would be cool if they have a desalinator, but I'm guessing they ran a water supply line. It's only 1/4 mile off the coast from Marathon, so they could have done that. On second thought, 1/4 mile may not be far enough away.

Yeah, that's definitely the most defensible of all of them, but I wonder about long-term living. You could stash a large amount of supplies in there, but no good way to get fresh stuff.

I wonder how folks in Sealand would fare. It's remote, difficult to get too, defensible, could support fishing, and could have wind/tidal power and desalination added if it doesn't already have it. But it's damp, cold, rusting and seems generally a miserable place to live.

I guess that's why the island seemed nice. Fresh seafood and warm fresh air.

Hadn't seen some of those, before. I've always leaned toward the silo. It's just a cool place...on top of being a super secure quarters. I, too, had thought about being trapped once you get dug in. You could always put in a "back door", but then you have another possible point of entry for the Zs. Saw a Doomsday Preppers episode where a guy could lock down for an entire year or more without need for anything from the outside. Probably the best plan, regardless.
