Cleaning a AK74

So I traded into an AK74, and finally had the chance to shoot it today. After pouring water into the gas tube and barrel, I shot a bunch of CLP into and drove home. I opened the cheapy cleaning kit I bought at Wally World, and proceeded to run the 22 cal bore brush down the barrel and it stuck in there. I really had to fight it to get it out. So my question is this: Does anyone know of a kit I can buy, locally that will work in this gun?

Well first congrats on the new AK. Pouring water into the gun is new to me.but to each their own. In my 5.56 norinco i use a .22 cal boresnake, when new they are realy tight. If the only problem you are having is the bore brush is too tight. maybe you could find some used ones that are broke in. 5.45 is not much smaller and i think the bore snake would do just fine. What make of rifle? can you post pics?

I had shot some corrosive surplus, that's why I was pouring water into it.No pictures yet, but it's built on a Nodak Spud reciever,I'm thinking Century M74.She's a shooter though. I'm waitin on a Kvar stock to replace the horrendus Tapco M4 stock that came on it.

If you use Windex make sure its the ammonia formula. Its the ammonia that neutralizes the salts. A lot of the newer stuff doesn't have the ammonia. Windex is also just a stop gap. You will still need to wash with warm soapy water and lube well when you get a chance.
