Home Defense Weapon- Loaded Overnight?

Recommended Posts

As always, I'm a little late to the party, but...

Keep my Remington 870 Express 12 ga. bed side, 6 in the tube and empty chamber. Have my Glock 19 or Kimber .45 on night stand (no children), magazine inserted with chamber empty. Reason being.

Getting up in the middle of the night groggy to take a leak and if lucky, shoot a 90% x ring and 10% fail to neutralize. With the completion of the fire drill stub my toe on the way back. Now do I really want to be fumbling with a hot gun when groggy & clumsy?

Of course most of it I blame on age.

Rather take the chance with a hot gun than an unloaded one.

I keep several weapons ready to fire available, but I have no children in the house.  When children are in my home, I make changes to prevent any possible accidents.  I also depend on my hounds as part of my defense system.

I keep one or two loaded handguns in my night stand.  One gun (a snub) I carry and one gun (a full sized 9mm) I keep at home.  I see no point of having an unloaded gun and having to load it for an emergency.

All five chambers of the revolver are loaded and the chamber of the 9mm is loaded!

How many of you guys keep your guns loaded taking them in and out of the safe? Bumping loaded stuff around in a safe seems like it really raises the risk for an accidental discharge.

Finger off the trigger. Firearm in safe direction. Treat all guns as if they are loaded until proved otherwise

I keep all my firearms loaded at all times. If a handgun is out of the safe--its in a holster. Therefor i consider it safe.

All guns in the safe are loaded until proved otherwise....

One loaded in my desk, which is at one end of the house.  One loaded by my bed where I sleep with my wife.  One loaded by my bed where I sleep when my wife snores   :D .   One loaded in my EDC, if not in my pocket it's in a draw position in my satchel I carry to work with me.  All hot, always.

No kids in my house except my 17 year old.  He's not only trained, but knows far more facts about various guns and ammo than I do.  The rascal has more time to read than I do.

Anytime we have company with children we go into safety mode and every thing get unloaded or put way away.

Wife and son are trained that all guns are to always be treated as loaded and to keep fingers off trigger unless ready to fire.
