FFL question about state lines.....

Recommended Posts

If I live in a place like Jellico,TN which has half the city in KY, can I open a home based FFL and serve both sides of the state line? Or would it require 2 responsible parties one with an address in each state or would it call for 2 totally different FFl apps? Hope it's not confusing. Thanks TGO.

Years ago there was a store in Georgia that also had a store in Chattanooga . At that , time if you bought a pistol from them, an empoyee would drive it to there TN store and you could follow him , do the paperwork and pick it up . That had to be at least 15 years ago .

This is an interesting post, and intriguing.  What if you could buy property that extends on both sides of the state line, you could build a show room on the line.  I would assume you would have to have two FFL licenses, one for each state, but I think that would be cool.  You would have to have two bound books and two inventories, and maybe duct tape across the floow to seperate the line.  Otherwise, unless the property is litterally on the state line, I would think which county (not city) where you apply for your business license would be the litmus test on which state you must declare your business in.

Sounds like GT Distributors in Rossville. They still do that.

Not  GT . But I have been told that GT was on the line . Also been told that the back was in Georgia and the front was in TN amd you could buy from the state you needed depending on what counter it was billed at . I have a friend going to go next week and buy a pistol so I will know for sure then.

It took me a while to remember the name but Classic Pawn was the one I bought at. At that time they could sell long guns to TN residents in the Georgia store  . They opened a store in TN but I was at the Georgia store with a buddy and they had 2 pistols we wanted and they had an employee drive them to the TN store so we could buy them .

I've seen it said here they are in league with a pawn shop on the TN side that does the 4473 transfer, like across the street or something, whether they own it or not dunno.

If somebody sees this, they'll probably chime in, I know lots of TN TGO folks have  bought there, but I have not.

I bought a Kimber Super Carry HD from them in Nov. The pawn shop is about a mile away at I think 38th street.

The pistol beat me to the shop. Filled out the 4473, paid them $25 and came home.

Very quick, easy and painless.

Funny thing is the owner lives on Signal Mtn.

The GT folks do not own the Quik Cash pawn shop. They just worked out a deal to help out with all the TN residents that shop there as GT is literally only a few hundred yards into GA. Also, now Shooter's Depot has a store in TN and GA and will do the transfers between the two stores for you if needed.
