FedEx and UPS are in the Justice Department’s cross-hairs

Interesting read: http://www.wnd.com/2013/03/now-big-brother-targets-your-fedex-ups-packages/

"FedEx and UPS are in the Justice Department’s cross-hairs for not flagging shipments of illegally prescribed drugs the companies say they had no way of knowing were in their possession."

“At the heart of the investigation are sealed packages that are being sent by, as far as we can tell, licensed pharmacies. These are medicines with legal prescriptions written by licensed physicians. So it’s difficult for us to understand where we would have some role in this. We are a transportation company that picks up and delivers close to 10 million packages every day. They are sealed packages, so we have no way of knowing specifically what’s inside and we have no interest in violating the privacy rights of our customers,” Fitzgerald said.

“They clearly are attempting to put some responsibility for the legality of the contents of these packages. That’s why for us it goes far beyond even just the online pharmacy situation. This really has a chilling effect. It has the potential to threaten the privacy of all customers that send or receive packages via FedEx because the government is assigning a role on us as law enforcement or taking on their role in a way that is not appropriate,” Fitzgerald said.

Anyone else see where the extension of this behavior would lead? Since we've seen TSA attempt to encroach into other areas... subways, trains, etc.. and we had the massive government stop n search on I40?24? last year with the feds snooping in all the semis... How long before the thought police( http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/9939666/British-press-laws-are-just-crazy-say-shocked-Americans.html ) are here and need to have manifests of our interstate commerce packages to prove we're not engaged in illegal activity including terrorism, drug peddling, support of the 2nd amendment & other fringe extremist ideologies of sovereign liberty, as well as generally other disruptive material as it affects the well being of the children.

If things don't change, the TSA could end up being the Gestapo and the DHS the SS of the USA.....they already are way past giving a rat's behind about citizens rights.  The violate something over and over and over, next thing you know, They think it's common practice.

One of my biggest fears, and no real way to slow them down.

Last year, Google Inc. agreed to pay $500 million to settle allegations by the Justice Department that it profited from ads for illegal online pharmacies.

The government wants to be paid off.
But there’s a big difference in Google taking money for something they should have known was illegal and UPS/FedEx shipping them. None of those on-line pharmacies ship anything through the USPS?

FedEx was more defiant. Fitzgerald said the company has no plans to plea bargain with federal officials.

"Settlement is not an option when there is no illegal activity," Fitzgerald said.

Good.
