Long term S&W Sheild use experiences ? Good or bad ?

I've carried mine daily since June 2012 and haven't had a single issue. The only thing I have done to the pistol other than shoot it is the installation of XS BigDots. The little pistol is nearing 3,000 rounds down range and still looks as good as new. I've never found a definitive answer as to when the recoil spring should be changed but it's chugging along just fine. It conceals great in my Talon IWB holster, much better than the wheel gun does hahahaPosted Image

I've pocket carried a Shield 9 in a DeSantis Superfly for about a year.  I've put at least a thousand rounds through it with no malfunction.  Most of that was the cheap stuff.

I hope to add a Shield 40 to the collection.

I have a PPS, that I love, but I'm thinking about a Shield more and more. I feel it might be in my best interest to have the match to my M&P nightstand gun.

I'm still torn between 9 or 40, but like the full size, it looks like you can get the 40 and use the 9 barrel/mags. I'm still in the beginning stages of researching that.

Had a few FTE issues with mine at first. Couldn't get thru a mag without one. I was running 115 gr at the time. Tried some 124 Lawman and it cleared up immediately.

Maybe after a few 100 more rounds, I'll try the 115 again.

But love the gun. Closest for me anyway, to the "almost perfect carry 9."

The Shield is 9mm unless you are talking about the wheel gun I can't afford to shoot in 500 S&W haha

When they first came out I was reading a bunch of bad things about them from owners . Especially on the S&W forums like failure to return to battery , FTF and FTE. . But then again , this is the internet and there will  always be crap that is untrue I guess.

Thanks guys for all the information. I went with the 9mm Shield. Man it feels nice and the trigger reset is WAY better than my S&W M&P .

Supposedly the full M&P line of handguns will start getting that trigger group. It has a very positive 1 click reset, unlike the full size that has a double click reset.

My recently acquired M&P9C has a nice and audible one-click reset. Definitely seems better than some of the older ones I've shot. Perhaps they've already started doing this?

It's possible. The old triggers were barely audible and it was def a 2 click kind of deal.
