Sks sights

Don't talk much in the long gun section but I just bought an sks and it is shooting to the left. I did not know if a scope is solid enough to stay accurate or if I should buy one of the rear mount peep sights and move to the right some. Which would hold accuracy better over time? I have heard that the scopes will move over shooting time. Any one used either or both?

A rear aperture sight is a definite upgrade to stock sights.  But if you just need to move your point of impact, you only need to move the front sight to the left.  I wouldn't bother trying to beat it with a hammer (BTDT).  A sight adjustment tool is a must.  You can make one or buy one.  It's easier to buy and they aren't very expensive.

I got one of these for my SKS.  http://www.tech-sights.com/

If I were to do it again, I would go with one that replaces the factory rear sight.  For the Tech Sight, I had to remove the factory sight anyway.  That left the leaf spring just sitting there, so I made a "slot blank" to cover that.  Also had to use the rotary tool on the sight base because it interfered with the sight picture.

There are rear aperture sight replacements for the SKS that just replaces the factory rear sight.  Here's an example.  http://www.mojosights.com/sample-page/ak-sks/

Either way, you'll want to move the front sight to correct the windage.  Otherwise, your rear sight won't be centered.

SKS sight adjustment...  http://www.surplusrifle.com/sks/sights/

I also have Tech Sights on my SKS.  I just prefer peep sights and the longer sight radius is nice.  I also had to dremel my stock a little to get the Tech Sight to fit.  Interestingly, the rifle shot quite well with the stock sights.  When I installed the Tech Sights, it was way off to the right.  I've got it back on target but the Tech Sight is cranked nearly all the way over.  I'd like to move the front sight a bit but haven't ever bothered to get the nifty tool.

The dust cover type scope mounts don't work very well.  The dust cover just isn't rigid enough to make a stable base.  The "scout" type scope mounts that fit up near the existing rear sight work better.
