Check out my Daughters school project!

Very nice , how accurate to what distance ?

She can hit a 18x24 inch box most times from about 15 yards. It can definitely be made more powerful but I wouldn't let get shoot it in our backyard if it was.

Awesome work! Very nice project.

Can you give a little insight as to how the trigger mechanism works? Maybe a picture or two?

Thats really awesome. The only thing I was able to make back in high school for a project was a pneumatic cannon. After the teacher saw my designs and plans, she said no me bringing in an air compressor. So I used a tire pump. Interlocking channels and valves. Made an orange fly!

That is really fantastic. Considering how many centuries it took from the invention of the bow to the invention of the crossbow, that is impressive. It has nice design lines and is quite aesthetic as well.

Bravo!

The trigger is a single piece of metal twisted and cut with a notch. It pivots on the stock in a slot. The catch is a U shape with a notch that mates with the trigger. The bowstring pulls from the top of the U. There is a pivot through the catch and when the trigger is pulled the catch releases. Here are a couple of close up pics. veqy3ube.jpg

Sorry for the poor pics.

I see now. Thanks for the clarification, the pictures were perfect.

I actually have some 1.5" pvc pipe and some scrap wood just laying around, I may just have to make one. If I can ever find the time that is, I already have too much to do and no freaking time to do it.
