Range Reports

As a new shooter I'm curious to see how other people shoot. Does anyone else share my curiosity? I frequent a forum for XD owners and members are always posting photos or scans of their targets and discussing their practice sessions. I try to shoot weekly and work on my grip, stance, trigger pull, etc. and I find that getting other people's input is extremely helpful.

So, if anyone wants to play along I am going to start posting my range reports so that you all can mock my novice shooting

Also, we could start a little online competition (Also something from the XDTalk forums). Have a standard target and range and keep track of our results. Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition and I think it would be a lot of fun to see the different levels of skill the shooters here possess.

I went to CCA yesterday and put 200 rounds through my XD9. I was incredibly disappointed with my shooting and feel like I took a step backwards. I will post some targets later today.

There are days that when I am done shooting, I look around closely to make sure nobody was watching:D I feel your pain!

Relax and don't be so hard on yourself .... I use to get mad after a bad range session... it never helped my skills.

I try to always draw from the holster, perform several rapid reloads, and shoot as quickly as I can aquire the target.

Small groups get boring (to me)... means I'm not shooting or moving fast enough.

Most ranges disallow both drawing from the holster and rapid fire. All of the ones I have shot at, that is.

I prefer to not go to those. Standing still slow-firing kinda defeats the purpose of practicing for defense. If I find myself at one, I prefer to take out the lever-action, and a revolver or a .22 and just plink for cheap. But, I don't have enough free time to have much interest in plinking.

I prefer slow, deliberate firing. Sure, I practice self defense firing with a S&W Model 49, but not the same as I was trained: precision target.

Thats pretty good shooting. The taurus has a nice feel for some reason. I just don't like the safety...sticks out too far. I like shooting one handed the best, but I do practice draws once in a while. The odds of me having to out quick a bandito in a saloon are pretty slim.

All I got is this:

Bout .9 center to center. 147gr ball out of a DPMS AP4. The lithuanian is some good stuff. The brass is excellant. I've got some 130gr speer hp's loaded. Probably give them a try pretty soon. I need something that can pop a clay at 300 reliably. the lith ball is good, but not that good.

Thats the old guys targets. Theyve been shooting longer than youve been alive probably.

Been shooting for 35 years and eyesight's going... I can see the target or the front sight or the rear sight. I can no longer see them all at the same time.

You should have seen the targets my brother shot back in the day... I remember when I first got my USP Tactical in 1999. He fired a 10 shot, one hole group at 25 yards about the size of a half dollar, and then handed it back to me, saying "it shoots to the left". He was 33 at the time and just out of the Teams. Ten years before that, he taught me to double tap with a P226. He'd put them through the same hole, something I have never been able to do.

But I can still kick his but at long gun...
