Warning on AR500

I ordered a front and a back plate from ar500.com on Sept. 22, 2014. When I ordered them I knew that there would be a long wait due to the proposed ban on civilian armor. It was advertised that there would be up to a 3 week delay. It is going on 7 weeks now and they have yet to even make them. I called after 4weeks had passed and they told me if I had not received them after Halloween to give them a call. I called Friday to inquire and they said it might be two more weeks until they could make them.

 

I understand if they were a little behind but, it will be at least three times the estimated wait time until I get them. I just wanted to give you guys a heads up in case you were thinking about ordering from them. I have no doubt it will be a quality product when I receive it but they have really fallen short in the customer service dept.

I ordered my plates and carrier right before all the talk in the summer about that ban...I took right at 6 weeks to get mine before any scare...I just think there is a general increase in desire of ownership....

Yeah they're really, really slow to fulfill orders.  When I ordered a set it took two months to arrive despite their "2-3 week lead time."  Mike Honda pushing the anti-body armor bill I'm sure didn't help your order either.

Probably slim.  I was thinking it was pretty slim before, but stranger things have happened.

Not likely before and definitely not now. I just figured it would be better to make sure I got them while I could and not leave it to chance.

That's a bummer about your long wait, but you will be pleased with the quality when you finally get them. For those who are contemplating getting some of their plates I would hold off till Black Friday. They have had a big sale (like 20% off) for the last two years.

Not a fan of the weight of the AR500 plates but very good price point. I'm going to fork out the extra money and get some lightweight Dyneema armor by DKX.

If i could justify the price of ceramic/composite plates I would definitely get a set...maybe my wife would get me some for christmas...along with my aimpoint and other misc high price purchases...i just look at it as a cheap gym membership...

Look at Highcom Security.  They have some pretty decently priced plates of different types, sizes, weights, and composition.  Also, they have a coupon code "ARMOR" I think that has a nice discount.  Plus on your first order you can do a review of the products, service, whatever and get a 25% off your next order total.

No problem.  I ran an order through with them. A level IV standalone and multicurve shooters cut set (Front, 6"x6" side plates, rear) would run $417 after discount.

$417 seems pretty low for non steel...can you link to what you purchased?

Both the sides and fronts.  These are the lower priced ones, there are a number of other plates and different compositions, weights, etc that would change the price.

 

*Edit.  That's with the "ARMOR" discount.  Total before that would be around $550 something.

 

Something else I should mention.  I've never ordered from these guys before and never shot at their armor to test it.  From my understanding of them they're a good group that make the plates for some other companies as sell. I'm just throwing it out there since we're on the topic of armor.
