Back Up Gun Holster

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any suggestions or advice? This isn't going to be mine but instead for a family member of mine that due to the clothes they wear at work cannot carry IWB or OWB. They have decided that they want an ankle gun and are looking at a Galco Ankle Glove. Is this practical and what will they have to do to their clothing and everyday lifestyle to make an ankle gun work?

Now for me I'm looking at getting a DAO snub nose revolver. I am kind of leaning towards kydex and a S&W M&P 340. I'd take a 442 or 642. What options besides a clipdraw would I have for a sturdy holster? Would it just be easy to buy another Glock 19 or 26 because I can find holster for them?

I'm really just fishing for an excuse to get a new gun. If anyone can tell me their experiences with holster and carrying these guns that would be great. If i can find some good holster suggestions I can always go from there.

I've had great luck with a smartcarry in most scrubs for smaller pistols.(p238, S&W J-frame snub) Kangaroo carry was alright but doesn't work so well for my shape(rounder in the middle than I would prefer). Ankle carry was ok but I didn't like how tight the bottoms of some scrub pants are which made access/printing a challenge.

I love my remora pocket holster.  It has a rubbery external coating that sticks well to the pocket, and it is fairly thin.  It has held up over 2 years of daily carry without any major signs of wear apart from stretch to fit / break in.

I tried ankle and never found anything I liked due to weight, pants/socks/shoes and all it never quite fit me.

I've been re-investigating ankle carry with a cheeeeap bulldog ankle holster and MK9.

1. Slow access
2. The weight on the ankle is disconcerting, I believe time can alleviate the feeling.
3. Good reviews on both the ankle glove and Renegade cozy partner.
4. Reviewers (in general) strongly suggest a calf strap if the option is available for the holster you buy.
5. According to the internet, alessi makes the cadillac of ankle holsters.

Notice crossbreed is advertising a ankle holster.
