Driver license renewal

Recommended Posts

I renewed my drivers license last Thursday when I received the notice in the mail. It was only good for 5 years and it stated I have an HCP. Was the HCP ID always on the renewal form or is this something new? Also didn't the state government pass the 7 year TN-DL?

HCP renewal is next year. Edited by Joe357

Must be new, I got mine in Oct last year and no HCP listed anywhere, it expires in 2020.  My HCP is only good for 3 years, 2018.

I don't want HCP listed on my DL.

I can see it now  DMG  (Driver, Motorcycle, Gun)  also looks like damage.

What if I have to use my DL during a hiring process and they see the HCP part?  They might not say it but may not offer a job and not give a reason.  Might effect the hiring process, although would be next to impossible to prove.

Ah!  Makes sense then, they are trying to get both to expire on the same year so this way they can match the expiration dates.

So, next year when I renew my HCP it will expire in 2020 like my DL. This would make my DL 5 years and my HCP 4 years?

Y'all realize it's

8 years.

It's a total boondoggle right now regarding the HCP. They are currently staggering HCP renewals to jibe with 5 year cycle to match DL. But starting 1/15, the DL starts being staggered to hit an 8 year cycle.

Of course, they didn't change the law for the HCP to match the 8 year.

So either they won't ever match for long,  or if the legislature manages to go Duh and change the HCP yet again, all this effort for about a year has been wasted.

What idiots.
