The banjo is my favorite instrument! I've had a couple and tried to learn how to play.....my right hand "rolls" were awesome, but my left hand is fairly retarded.....and arthritis doesn't help either. Nothing like being able to watch and hear a good banjo picker though!

I heard this one before.....it cracked me up, especially since I have a couple horses myself. Some people might not get it though....let me help: The last thing the midget asked was "I'd like to see her twot"............

I love my Glock 27, with the addition of a Hogue Gripsleeve Jr. it feels awesome in my hand. The Glocks are quite a bit lighter in weight than the XD's too which is nice when you're carrying it for long periods. If you like the Glocks other than the "bulkiness" of the grip....I'd check out a Glock 36 before I ruled them out completely. The 36 is a "slimline" Glock with a single stack magazine and narrower grip in .45 caliber.

Self Defense and Religion
PackinMama replied to PackinMama's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'd like to clarify where I stand, first let me say that this is my grandfather-IN-LAW......and I absolutely do not agree with his views on this subject in any way, shape, or form. I carry my weapon 24/7 and I do so to be able to defend myself, my family, or anyone else if a situation arose that called for the use of deadly force. Nothing anyone says would ever be able to change that. I go everywhere, including to church on sunday, with my G27 close at hand. I'm a fairly young Christian and I will admit that I do not read my bible nearly as often as I should. On the other hand, my GFIL is extremely knowledgable of the bible and is a devout Seventh Day Adventist. He's also never wrong (in his opinion anyway ) and loves to argue. He honestly believes that the bible says that you should not kill, for any reason, including self defense. He says that you should be more interested in trying to save the person that's going to kill you than in self preservation. Every quote in the bible that I brought up to him that seems to clearly allow for self defense, he just shoots down and says that I'm interpreting it the wrong way. There's just going to be no way to change his mind, so I'm not even going to try anymore. When he brought up the quote about turning the other cheek......I have to admit, that one did concern me. That's why I decided to post this thread.....I wanted to see how some of you interpreted what the bible says about the right to use deadly force in self defense. You guys have given me a lot of great information and mousegunners link http://www.mouseguns.com/cba.htm has some fantastic articles on this subject. -

Self Defense and Religion
PackinMama replied to PackinMama's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I checked out the link that Suntzu posted.....this is the verse my Grandfather used to shoot down the "he that hath no sword should sell his garment and buy one" : Matthew 26:52-54 – how Jesus responded when Peter used his sword to cut off the ear of a servant of the high priest: "Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?" That link goes on to explain that verse in a little better light however: Jesus told Peter he would be committing suicide to choose a fight in this situation – as well as undermining God's plan to allow Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection. Jesus told Peter to put his sword in its place – at his side. He didn't say throw it away. After all, He had just ordered the disciples to arm themselves. The reason for the arms was obviously to protect the lives of the disciples, not the life of the Son of God. What Jesus was saying was: "Peter, this is not the right time for a fight." -

I showed him that one too....he basically said that I'm interpreting that the wrong way.....gave me some lengthy b.s. about it that kinda went in one ear and out the other.....can't even remember what he said to tell you the truth. -
Self Defense and Religion
PackinMama replied to PackinMama's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Suntzu, I already showed him those verses.....he says that what Jesus said basically 'cancels' the old testament stuff out. I'll check that link out.... -
This question stems somewhat from the "CCW at church" (http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10810 thread here.....but I think this subject deserves it's own thread. Mods - I think I'm putting this in the right place since it's regarding the subject of self defense....but I could be wrong. I've been having a running debate with my grandfather-in-law about the moral and religous issues concerning carrying a gun for self defense, and using it if needed. He believes it's a sin to kill, even if my life and/or my childs life (or anyone elses) was clearly in danger. Today, he showed me the following quote out of the bible (KJV) in Matthew 5:38-39 where Jesus says: "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosover shall smite thee on the right cheek, turn to him the other also." I'm really interested in what some of you think about this. Personally, I'm confused and am looking forward to hearing some different opinions........

A little help from the Ladies,or guys Please.
PackinMama replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I used to carry in my purse when I went out.......then my purse was stolen in the Walmart parking lot, with my gun in it. I had one of the expensive Taurus .38 full titanium's with a ported barrel....not anymore. Purse carry is definitely not the way to go. After that incident, I started carrying either in a belly band or in a fanny pack. The belly bands are very comfortable and they conceal your weapon soooooo well with just about any type of clothing on. They're absolutely perfect with a lightweight .38 snubbie....and not too bad with a subcompact auto, as long as it's not too heavy. I really like my fanny pack too.....I can carry my G27 with an extra mag (or two) and my wallet, cell phone, keys, and then I don't need to carry a purse at all. A guy at my local gun shop (a U.S. Marshall) once told me that all a gun carried in a purse is good for is to add weight to the purse so you can knock your attacker over the head with it. I didn't take his advice at the time....I had to learn my lesson the hard way. -
Don't leave your gun at home...
PackinMama replied to mousegunner's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I carry 24/7 and I wish that every permit holder would do the same. I frequently use the "insurance" comparison when talking to people about carrying a gun. I always say, "Carrying a gun is like having insurance.....you'll probably never need it, but if you do, you'll be very happy that you had it!" -
Question about leasing hunting land.....
PackinMama replied to PackinMama's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Thanks to everyone for all the valuable information! It really sounds like a lot of trouble for a small payoff.....I think I'll just let my deer have a safe place to hide during hunting season.......At least until my son is old enough to take hunting with me -
My vote is still with a .38 snubbie..... IMO it is the perfect self defense weapon for a novice shooter. They have plenty stopping power without too much recoil. They're light, small, and easy to handle. They're also pretty much idiot proof, so anyone that can point it and pull the trigger can shoot it. .38 snubbies, or really any snubbies for that matter, are not fun range guns. That's just not what they're made for. They're made for up close personal self defense, period. In a situation where someone would have to shoot one in a self defense situation, the flowing adrenaline would definitely absorb the recoil

Hi there Hustle! Welcome to the board!! I've been to Coal Creek.....I haven't used their range but it looked nice. I'm lucky enough to be able to shoot here where I live, but that's pretty cool that they have a "ladies day" there! That would be a great place to set a date for a TGO East TN Ladies Shoot!

I've got a G23 and this definitely interests me. Do you have any pictures? I'd love to see what it looks like!

Thanks everyone for all the input. I've done some reading and highlighting in my bible myself this week....and I think I'm ready for tomorrows visit Exodus 22:2 says, "If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed." That's exactly how he is! I got out my NIV along with my KJV last sunday and he told me that the KJV was the "correct" translation and that these other versions "added" and "changed" a lot. Dang Boom!! I didn't know you knew my grandfather!!! LOL

Question about leasing hunting land.....
PackinMama replied to PackinMama's topic in Hunting and Fishing
The legal issues are definitely what concerns me the most. Would a 'contract' drawn up by me, that I make the leasee sign, (basically saying that I am not responsible in any way for injuries or damages that the leasee may suffer/cause while on my property, etc., etc.,) be legal and hold up in court? -
Most of the time it's just my primary with a spare mag......but I do occasionally carry a BUG. If I'm going somewhere that I feel is a bit more risky or dangerous than usual, that's when I'll pack my BUG too.
-
I'd go with something easy to use and dependable. A .38 snubbie like a Taurus Ultra-lite or a S&W Airweight would be perfect. If you think the .38 recoil would be too much for her, I know Taurus makes snubbies in 9mm, .22 LR, and .22 WMR also. The .22's are 9 shot.....that's almost as much as a subcompact auto holds. Taurus makes a very good gun at a great price. I definitely wouldn't go with an auto if she's not too familiar with guns....too much could go wrong.

DRT (Dynamic Research Technologies) Ammo

That is true.....unless you're talking about that 44 lb. cat that was in the news a couple weeks ago..... -
I've heard about people leasing land to hunt on.......can anyone tell me how that works? I have 34 acres with aprox. 20 mostly wooded and available to hunt on....and that 20 is surrounded by a LOT more wooded and secluded property. I used to hunt, and will again when my son is old enough to go with me.....but I haven't in over three years. There's a couple very nice bucks (saw a huge one last year, about 10 pts. and big) I've seen on the property and a bunch of does.....also turkeys and coyotes. I live in the hills of East TN near the Cocke/Hamblen line. I have a walking/4wheeler trail that goes out to the back of the property. I've thought about letting someone lease it for hunting. I definitely wouldn't want any night hunters on it......only daytime......basically just a deer or turkey hunter.....and no dogs. Also I would only want 1 person leasing it. I'm a little picky, I know.....but it's an awesome and fairly secluded and private place to hunt.....with some nice deer on it. Do any of you guys know about how much $ I should ask for a hunting lease? This is kinda just a feeler that I'm putting out since I really don't know too much about hunting leases. Any info would be appreciated.
