  1. Kydex is a molded plastic. Each kydex holster is form fitted to match your model of pistol. CTAC is a brand of Kydex holster. MTAC is another brand that also includes a leather backing. Those that use it say it's more comfortable than CTAC. There are also a number of other companies that make kydex holsters. Some good some not so good.
  2. Actually the title says the best IWB, not good for the east money. An excellent IWB is more expensive than a excellent OWB. There are some who like the CTAC and MTAC. Personally I like leather. But, leather costs more. Get a kydex IWB. You're better of with that than a cheapo leather IWB.
  3. The sky is falling, the sky is falling. The far left wanting more panic, more fear so they, the communists, socialists, will move in and save us. Yeah right! These are the machinations of the far left, the water carriers of miserably failed followers of Engels, Lenin and Marx. These bric-a-bat wielding goons of communists posing as organized labor leaders, the so-called academic elite in our centers of higher learning trickling down to our children in public schools, have promulgated these ideas for years. We are in a recession, a serious one. The leftists have waited for years for another chance to seep their dirty little totalitarian ideals into the American conscience. Overall this is a bump in the road, a big one likely to bring about more government intrusion in our lives. But, we will recover for the most part. Our system cannot be compared with Europe. Just because we are both in a recession they are for different reasons. They will contend Europe's ills are because of American style economics for 20 years now. Truthfully these countries are far far better off today than they ever were under communism and totalitarianism.
  4. Now that's hilarious.
  5. brake cleaner. Welcome to the world of P7's. Hard chrome and NP3 both look great on a P7. I'm kind of a P7 junky myself. Hard chrome is as well thought of as NP3 and costs less. Robar takes forever also. Either way though you can't lose. Because they are all steel if you have any thought of carrying this weapon concealed I'd highly recommend having one of those finishes put on it. If you go with hard chrome I'd recommend Ford's. If you have any detailed questions about the P7 go here: http://www.parkcitiestactical.com/ The cult of the P7. They are THE EXPERTS. Nobody and I mean nobody knows more about them than this group of people. I thought I knew a bit until I started visiting there.
  6. Didn't see any ads in Tennessee eh? dang I have heard that a lot . Yeah what the NRA should have done is wasted a couple million $ in Tennessee running ads in a state that was wrapped to make folks feel good instead of trying to make a difference in some key swing states. They didnt win all of those swing states as a lot was stacked against them, but they did win in a number of them. Won because they didn't waste their money. This isn't 20 years ago where you blanket every where. Now technology allows for better more efficient use of funds and better targeting. I personally couldnt care less that they didnt run any ads in Tennessee. I'd rather they spend money where it is needed. Tennessee was wrapped up.
  7. Mosins being $90 is nearly absurd. If they ever go to $200 something will be terribly wrong with the world. And an SKS is about right at $90. Anything more is wayyyyy too much. I never bought one last time they were going crazy high and won't buy one now. Then again I doubt I'd buy one at $90 right now if that was their going rate.
  8. Not only does it go against the grain of everything people should be taught about gun safety. But the instructors whole point was a fallacious one. Holding a gun you know to be unloaded in a classroom is in no way similar to what it is like to knowingly hold a loaded gun at someone's head who is threatening your own life and having to pull the trigger. It's an absurd demonstration. I agree this is one person who should be run out of the business and not be allowed to ever teach anyone else again. There's no telling what other small misinformation he may have been teaching as well that this young man didn't know about. He did the right thing, as he wanted to learn something obviously and not just get the certificate. Kudos to him.
  9. I own several CZ's. They are a fantastic rifle. Of mine my favorite is the CZ550 in 375 H&H Mag. The CZ is the most widely used gun in Africa. The Mauser action is smooth, the trigger is spot on once you get it dialed in to your preferences. It's reliability is... well again it is the most used rifle for dangerous game in Africa, enough said. Most hunters there say if it isn't a double, it's a CZ. I own at least one rifle of every major brand. My favorite rifles are the CZ and the Savage out of the mas manufactured brands.
  10. Yes out in the cold. Judicial Watch. That's one group great at starting lawsuits.
  11. Anyone going to the Safari Club International Banquet in Chattanooga on the 31st, this Saturday? I think it's at the Chatt Choo Choo.
  12. In the House a bill never has to come out of committee. It can be brought directly to the floor. Most bills like this are brought directly to the floor in one of the House's famous midnight quorum calls. It is enough of a concern that reps should be contacted to know that their constituents are aware of it and will be watching.

    Best 9mm List

Do you carry the polymer version or the old CZ75 styled all steel version? As I said every person is different and everyone has to choose what works for them. Personally I would buy as high quality a piece as I could with the money I had to spend. If the CZ/Witness works for you, great. It is a very high quality weapon for the price or w/ the price quotient taken out , either way IMO. I should have noted I was talking about the traditional duty/military rigs. There are smaller pistols in those lines as well. For me it wasn't a good fit and traditionally people think they are too big for concealed purpose. They are also easy to be proficient with because even with their rather large frame, their bore sight radius is very good. Unlike say the Sig which has a very high radius, making it difficult to be proficient despite it being an excellent weapon. You must practice often to be truly proficient, and that is coming from someone who carried a 228 for a long long time. As to the difference between the US made Beretta and the Taurus, I really can't say as I have not fired a new Beretta 92 in some time. I'd have to say though the difference would be less but still there. Beretta does a good job of finishing their guns, to me Taurus does not. They make a weapon that is safe and looks very nice, but I am talking about the internals. You have to spend money to make them as good as the Beretta. The Beretta is more refined, polished better, the trigger is crisper and smoother, more forged pieces, less stamped, etc. It's those little differences which often make the difference in cost for a weapon and the diff between a good weapon and an excellent one. Mainly because it takes more time (read: labor expertise and increased cost) to 'finish' a gun.

    223 Bolt Action?

I'll tell ya, I don't own the Savage .223, but I do have several Savage's including a 22-250. They build one heck of a rifle. Their triggers are very nice. I have been impressed with just about every one of them I have shot. Edit: I responded to the above before reading the entire thread. I see I am not alone in being a Savage fan. Good news travels fast. The old Winchesters and Remingtons shoot just as well, and maybe with work better. But for the money, the Savage shoots as well as those out of the box usually with a synthetic no hassle stock and you save a ton of money. They shoot as well as anything in their class IMO, as well as or better than Remington, CZ, Ruger, etc. They may not shoot as well as a rifle you have 5 grand in, but then again it isn't 5 grand. And honestly how many people will ever need that? Very few. While I'm at it, I will also plug CZ. Thay make a very nice Mauser action rifle. My favorite Safari gun is the CZ. IMO one of the finest Mauser action rifles made.
  15. If I didn't have a 308, I'd have one before a 338. The fact that you will always be able to get ammo for it hits my sensibilities from a long term thought processes point of view. Not to mention the cost difference in the ammo. Huge diff. But, if you don't think in those terms, the 338 is a fine round. My favorite cartridge personally is the 375 H&H, for what I hunt. Followed by the 30-06 and 308. The 223 and 22-250 are great fun for busting prairie dogs too. Fun and no pain.
  16. 1995, maybe late 1994. I have a hard time recalling now.

    Best 9mm List

Yeah the list is a farce. Anytime you put some price restriction on a list and call it best of, you are gonna get a skewed response. My HK P7's even 20 years old are more than $550. They right away exclude just about any German gun. They lose cred saying the Taurus is just as good as the Beretta, no way. I have the Italian 92 and had a Taurus, not even close. That said, I would say the Witness is as good as the CZ 75 and they are both among the best 9mm's ever made. They have great ergonomics, are extremely accurate and just handle beautifully. But, like the Beretta, if you want a list of great 9mm carry guns, they ain't it. Too big, too heavy for most folks to conceal comfortably. A bunch of stuff down toward the bottom of the list was just crap. A bunch of that other stuff is simply individual preference. What works best for you. Get a good reliable well thought of gun that fits YOU. No matter how expensive, if it doesn't fit you, it's not worth crap to YOU. Sure some are better than others and some are great pistols, but they require tremendous practice to be a good shooter with. It has often been my experience that the folks who scream the loudest about what the absolute bests are, are the folks who have shot the least variety of weapons, been shooting the least amount of time and have read the most magazines. Just my observation.
  18. It's easier to relax and carry today than it was when I first got a TN carry permit. When I first got a permit, the Deputy Sheriff in charge of handling permit holders for the county I lived in said his deputies were instructed to confiscate the firearm of and ticket for a fine any permit holder who's weapon was seen. He also said I was not to carry any weapon other than the one I qualified with which could not be a single action of any type including the 1911 style pistol or anything small than a .380. He strongly advised against carrying any auto at all. I was personally very glad he did all of this and was thankful for the other numerous heavy handed county sheriffs and police departments around the state for likewise thinking.
  19. Correct thanks for posting that. It was Bruce Stern's collection, not Heston's. Heston did have a nice collection, but he was not as much a military collector as Stern. The Stern collection sold for more than any other private collection in US history. He was a former NRA board member, a heck of a good natured fellow and he left a portion of the proceeds of that collection to the NRA Foundation. As to the link in the original post, I agree with hero, a lot of guns there, not really a collection. A lot of redundancy of mediocrity.

    Value of a S&W 686

The police guns dumped on the market in the late 80's early 90's were the 681, with the fixed rear sight. Yes I agree the S&W are overpriced. They were mass man guns that had trigger probs, barrels were overtightened on them, several probs. That said I have one of those 681's, I prefer it to the 686. It is overwhelmingly my preferred backup pistol when I am hunting, It is rugged, can get dropped and no worse for wear, no sights knocked out of alignment, doesn't rust. Hell of a gun. It's like the gun version of American Express, I don't hunt big game w/o it.
  21. Exactly!!
  22. I don't care how much of a jackas** an attorney is, nobody takes a case they know they have no chance of winning or getting something out of, unless it's same said jacka** who is doing the suing on their own behalf. No attorney is in business to lose money. I guess they could think that a carry permit holder would have insurance, big assumption there. Attorneys turn away loser cases nearly every day of the year. And attorneys do not take retainers from clients to sue people, unless maybe they are a business who have to sure people in the normal course of business. Even then is usually contingency. There are laws that dictate the amounts lawyers can get from winning cases. It isn't some arbitrary business. If some lawyer breaks the law they stand to be disbarred, suspended or tried criminally. So civil law sucks huh. I see a lot of this on this board, taking snippets of examples here and there and then making broad sweeping generalizations based on that. So I guess if someone hits your car driving recklessly you won't be using the civil system to recover damages huh? You'll let your own insurance handle the matter and take the increase in bills. So if a builder made a huge structural failure in building your home, you would never use the civil system to recover your losses right? Ah ye sinsurance again I got it.A company purposefully cuts corners making a product that harms one of your family members, but you'll say ah that's OK I wont sue because civil law sucks. Our legal system is rife with problems and it is still the most superior system in the world. And thank God we have a system where we can seek to be compensated for the carelessness or purposeful malfeasance of someone. Just becuase some abuse the syste,m doesn't mean the system sucks. Eveyone hates an attorney, complain all the time about defense attorneys halping ciminals and such all the time, until they need one. Oh but I really didn't do it and I've been accused unlike every other person who is accused but theyre all really guilty. :)
  23. As Fallguy stated they have no standing. That doesn't preclude you from ever being sued, but really it seriously limits the chance. Unless you are some ultra wealthy person what is there to gain? Attorneys do not take on the prosecution of a civil suit with a retainer. It is all contingency. Many large law firms also take on the administrative costs of the suit including court costs, depositions etc. Why because they are pretty sure they can win the case or a decent settlement. They win they get 30% plus their admin costs. Smaller firms will take a contingency case, but the client has to pay admin costs as they occur. Likely suing you would look to an attorney like a huge waste of their time and possibly their own money. And despite what common thought is, being an attorney is no guaranteed road to fortune. Most of them work a ton of hours and take a lot of sh*%&y cases dealing with a lot of other people's squabbles in order to make a living.
  24. I certainly have no desire to force anyone to carry a firearm if they are not comfortable or for many other reasons may wish not to. It is their risk. I have no idea what I would do in that situation. You are under no obligation to put yourself in the line of fire to take them out of it, just because you are armed. As was said you do not want to shoot an innocent and in a real situation with the heart pounding and adrenaline flowing it could easily happen.
