  1. The un-secure area of air-ports are not restricted from carry (unless properly posted)... I've never been to Memphis, but the Nashville airport wasn't properly posted, last time I was there. You did good to leave your piece in the car, since you entered the 'sanitary' area... which, as you found, wasn't really that much more secure. I used to love travelling by air... and did so frequently. But, I have only flown twice since 9-11. Now, I drive.
  2. True... if you look at her previous-years attempts at this, the co-sponsors were more than double before it was killed. This will be a hot bill in a year or so.

I understand this incident occured in Texas during a SWAT entry, one round of SS190 passed through 4 individuals, and struck a 5th... The original target was subdued with 5.56. When this exotic cartridge works, it supposedly does so quite well... but so far the only success stories which I have heard were the result of shot placement in vital areas, which would not have been an problem for any caliber with similar energy.
  4. Now has 49 co-sponsors: H.R. 1022 Here's some more of her drivel, as well: McCarthy's Bills

Yikes... I'm really surprised that these guns regularly sell for more than $800! They have the quality and feel of a sub-$500 gun... Any extra $850 that I had would find it's way to H&K or Sig...

I have seen very few of these pistols for sale recently... Have they slowed down production? Or has demand dropped off?
  7. I sold a shotgun that way, got alot more for it than I could have trading it in... he wasn't a seedy looking fellow though, and he already had 2 ARs over his shoulders. He just wanted what I had. I'm looking forward to seeing this show... But it's like anything in Nashville, a mish-mash of folks. And like you say, there certainly exists a small, though ever-present questionable element.
  8. I think TGO has already done more, in terms of bringing people together, than the Nashville Chapter of the TFA has (or likely will this year, if ever). I think that the best role(s) for us to continue to grow are: - Communication - Education - Bring like-minded people together - Have fun - Be a uniform positive influence on our communities When we feel good about our progress in those areas, then we'll be in an excellent position to reach higher and farther. That would likely include actively lobbying our legislators... That is the main purpose of the TFA, however, which is why I'd like to see our organizations as symbiotic units, instead of parallel ones...
  9. A few to add... I want a modern double-stack pistol chambered in 7.62x25mm, and a matching carbine. I want a quad-barrel .410 or 20ga shotgun (hey, if they can make a side-by side, why not add another pair of barrels below?). I want a compact single-stack (ala Sig P239) chambered for 10mm... I want to see the .50GI cartridge chambered in a few more (affordable) platforms. 10mm Beretta PX-4. 5.45x39mm Bolt-Action rifle (there was one once... but it's no longer made, and hard to find) That's all for now...
  10. Doesn't sound like I missed much... I'm determined to be involved in the TFA, but I fear that unless there are some significant proactive initiatives to participate in, this particular chapter might become too far for me to drive for the value-added.
  11. No worries, I'll be bringing it back by before too long to investigate getting a scout rail for the forend to mount an EoTech on... (UltiMak?). And I'll have to order another case of Wolf or something for the shoot at the NG range, so everybody can try out a few mags-worth... Any suggestions on how best to sling this sucker? (You and I both know who I won't be going to for that...) Cheers man! I'll catch you next time... Thanks for all the assistance with this one!
  12. Sorry I couldn't make it... had 'stuff' come up.
  13. It was a pleasure to finally meeet you, as well... and Sam, too Looking forward to emptying some casings with ya'll sometime soon!
  14. Got me there ... But I want one of those too! I think that it is also important to point out, that even though some of the hot 135gr .40s&w loads achieve .357sig velocity, the penetration of those loads do not mimic the .357sig... probably due to the greater density vs surface area of the smaller projectile. Once a projectile is carrying 600+ ft-lb of energy... there is little question that it will do major damage wherever it impacts! The comparison between 9mm and .357sig is very similar to the comparison between .40s&w and 10mm.
  15. Safely arrived, and Triumphant!!! The wait is OVER!
  16. The difference between the velocity of std pressure 9mm and 9mm +p+ is just as 'negligable'... Why batter the frame of your pistol, or invite a kB? And, I've never seen 9mm +p+ which was cheaper or more available than what I can get hot .357sig for... There is a big difference, whether you want to push a 20% heavier projectile just a fast, or push the same weight projectile 10% faster. The loads are out there, it's not balanced to compare downloaded .357sig with the hottest 9mm available... But even cheap S&B .357sig will push a 140gr projectile to 1350fps. And, Winchester White Box has 500+ft-lb at the muzzle... I'd like to see any 9mm do that for the same price... .38special is just fine for what it does... gives mediocre performance with managable recoil. Even it isn't as cheap to shoot, generally, as 9mm... and with negligably lower performance. Which is better? What if 9mm cost more?
  17. There are very few viable pistol calibers which can match the price/availability of 9mm! Not .45acp, not .40s&w, not even .357magnum... So, it's pretty academic that ANY choice other than 9mm for defensive purposes is due to a desire for greater performance. Specifically, .357sig can (and is) loaded with any projectile available for 9mm... since they are the same. The magazine capacity issue really isn't... Since in most compact pistols, there's only a 1-2 cartridge capacity difference (USPc: 13+1 vs 12+1, P229: 13+1 vs 12+1, Glock: 15+1 vs 13+1). One gives up much more capacity to carry a .45... or a revolver, for that matter... Full size pistols have slightly more disparity, but there are plenty of 15+1 .40 & .357 pistols in this category, as well... It just depends on the platform the shooter chooses. Why not opt for .357magnum performance, when one can do so in a package which is no larger than a 9mm, with similar capacity, and has less perceived recoil than the .357mag? The premium carry ammo is no more expensive... And believe it or not, bulk ammo in this caliber is generally as cheap as .45acp... plenty of people shoot that caliber recreation ally (I do). Besides, as more departments move to this chambering, and more shooters get on-board, the price will come down... it has, just in the last few years. (I've been shooting .357sig for 5 years, and was originally paying $23 per 50rd box, and now I can get it $10 cheaper) I understand your point of view, I really do (had similar thoughts at first, myself)... but after doing some research, I have no qualms with sticking to what works for me, the Secret Service, and hundreds of other depts around the country. So, everybody... buy a pistol chambered for .357sig! Help me reduce the cost of my practice ammo! Because, in every other way, .357sig combines the best aspects of 9mm and .40s&w, plus some... And believe me, if .38super was more mainstream, I would be carrying that for the same reasons set forth above.
  18. I see, our new chaper pres-elect will be running the show... Was there any mention of a guest speaker?
  19. Perhaps not, but it's certainly enough of a difference for many LE orgs to take notice and opt for the cartridge over any of the 'holy trinity' (9mm, .40, .45). And I agree with you about the other variables... shot placement is more important that a few extra fps, any day. My emphasis is based on equivalent proficiency with any chosen load, which, absent that variable has shown the .357sig (even using more anemic loads than DT produces) to be more effective overall than 9mm, .40s&w and the venerable .45acp, per FBI and independent testing.
  20. That's why I use 147gr stuff primarily, so that it won't fragment... but effectiveness-wise, that is like comparing a 110gr .38 special load to a 158gr .357 magnum load and saying that there won't be much difference in effectiveness.
  21. Using the Double-Tap ammo that I buy, the velocity is more like 1550fps... that's a HUGE step-up from 9mm +p (or even +p+). Most ammo manufacturers use fast (cheap) powder, with fillers in it, that produces spec pressure, but not optimum propulsion. Mostly, I carry 147gr Double-Tap loads which produce the velocity of lighter, hot 9mm loads. Some DT loads for comparison: that's a 200fps difference with the same bullets... Not insignificant by any means! The issue about more expensive/harder-to-find practice ammo is valid... But, it's worth it as long as this isn't a primary plinking gun. Actually though, from Double-Tap, all of their pistol calibers are about the same price... which is cheaper per 50 than most other defensive loads are available in boxes of 20.
  22. A .357sig P2000 LEM is what I would like to replace my P239 with... Phenominal cartridge, and a phenominal platform.
  23. I might take a breather and head over to Franklin during some of the classroom time... And yes, Bob Pope runs a MUCH better show than the Bill Goodman ridicuousnessnessness.
  24. Which variant did you get? SA/DA decock SA/DA safety LEM... ?
  25. Ooops... That's right... I meant Sunday! We'll be back up there Sunday. I was looking at the wrong day on the calendar... Hmmm, might not be able to make it up there Sunday...
