Looks like an attempt to begin creating distinct definitions of 'bar' and 'resturaunt which serves alcohol'.

Yet another attempt at intimidation
molonlabetn replied to setsdw's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Personally... I just don't volunteer any information at all. It is entirely possible to be very polite and courteous, and still not be forthcoming with information. Because, you see, none of that information will be used with your best interests in mind if you are the subject of the encounter... that's simply the job, to gain enough information to make an arrest. Just never lie, and never be belligerent. In TN, we are required to produce our permit when asked... but there is no requirement to affirm whether or not we are using it at the time (is my understanding of the way the TCA is written). -
What the FBI Learned about Gangsta Thug Mentality
molonlabetn replied to Warbird's topic in General Chat
Gangsta, scum-of-the-earth, urban thug, soldja, etc = "offender" in this case The findings are the same, regardless what the "offenders" are called (or call themselves). I'm really not too worried about their feelings being hurt. -
180gr will actually penetrate further due to greater momentum... what it lacks is muzzle energy (on paper). But either 165gr or 180gr using quality JHP projectiles commonly reach about 14" in gelatin. A more critical question would be which load cycles and fires better out of your particular gun...? Not really... a lighter bullet, even travelling faster, has less momentum. Plus, lighter bullets are more likely to fragment and penetrate very little. This is why 135gr .40s&w bullets usually create a large, shallow wound, and heavier bullets go deeper, but with a more narrow wound track.

To me the only drawback with humping a 12ga is the limited amount of ammunition one could carry... in the same space that 100 shells of 12ga takes up, I can carry 500rd of .223 or .45acp... or nearly 1000rd of 9mm... or several thousand rounds of .22lr. Honestly... I would see an SBR'ed PS90 as an awesome bug-out weapon. Very light and one could carry a bunch of ammo. Since bugging out wouldn't involve hunting so much as just getting from one place to another... Having a hunting weapon would only come into play for extended periods of bugging-in. Personally, I'd take an AR if I was on foot (which would be the only scenario I would forsee having to make such a choice).

To "clear" your house, or hunker down.
molonlabetn replied to Will Carry's topic in Training Discussions
You better believe that I would actively 'hunt' anyone who forcefully entered my home uninvited... but I can't recommend that for those who have families, because that involves a different set of priorities. -
I'd rather have a few guns that I will use, can use well... and are equipped with quality accessories which are useful to me. I have no use for a safe full of guns that I will never shoot, or wouldn't be a first, second or third choice in any practical scenario I may encounter. I'm quite happy with 2-3 rifles, 2-3 shotguns, 4-5 handguns so I can and spend the rest on ammo, range time and training.

I think a good compromise would be an 18" gov't profile barrel with a mid-length gas system. 5.56mm doesn't really gain much between 18" and 20". I think that'll be my next one, with an ACOG on top.
-
The greater barrel length increases the effectiveness of the 5.56 round at combat ranges, and the longer gas tube increases the reliability of the action. Ideally, the 20" pencil barrel on the M16 and M16A1 was the ideal combination of effectiveness and weight... but only when using 55gr or lighter bullets, because of the 1-12 rifling twist.

Ooook... not everybody agrees everybody, tough crapola, welcome to the internet. I'm not here to be anyone elses' "Thought Police" so stay, go, do what ya want, the internet is a big place, and I'm sure you can find a site which has it's foot solidly on the throats of those having differing points of view, if that's what you're into.

Red Dot reccomendations for a Tacticool Shotgun...
molonlabetn replied to bassmaster's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Perhaps a Trijicon Doctor sight? They are expensive, but very unobtrusive and durable. There are cheaper clones available, such as the Burris Fastfire... Though, neither is under $100. Honestly though, it's hard to find a decent optic under $100... -
+p is a SAAMI spec... +p+ is indicative that it is above that spec, by some amount. So, use at your own risk. NATO is simply a different way of quantifying the pressure, and that standard is above the SAAMI spec for standard pressure 9mm... similarly, 5.56mm is a slightly higher pressure than .223rem. Most major handgun manufacturers build their guns to handle SAAMI and NATO spec ammo. I have run Speer and Federal +p+ 9mm ammo and NATO spec ammo through XDs, Sigs, and Glocks with no ill effects.

Ported guns have their advantages and disadvantages... two of the big disadvantages are the flash from the ports causing: 1) loss of night vision right in the center of your focus, over the sights where you need it. 2) Potential for burning gunpowder to catch your or your clothing on fire or injure you, if you are holding the pistol near you (ie, by your side for retention in a realistic self-defense posture) Besides that, the type of porting done on Glocks and several other semi-auto pistols introduces alot more fouling into the gun between the slide and barrel, and also bleeds alot of pressure off, reducing the velocity of the bullet compared to an unported barrel. Also, we're talking about a 9mm here... those don't have much muzzle flip anyways, so the benefit is almost nil. There might be some benefit for a subcompact .40 I suppose, but none that couldn't be replaced by some range time and learning to control the pistol through practice.

...because, of course we all know that the anti's will stop short of trying to take away concealed carry, if noone carried openly.

Scary situation:easily prevented
molonlabetn replied to White Goodman's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Quite true... it's not entirely fair to just give up on them just because they continue to jeapordize their safety, and their son's safety. The un-used alarm system depicts perfectly their mentality... they have no reasonable fear. My first advise would be to find a way to convince them to use what they already have, so they would at least be aware... after that, one could pose the question "so what do you do when that alarm goes off, and you have to survive long enough for the police to arrive?". Either way, it really is up to them how secure they want their own home to be... ie, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. -

It's your parents' house, their rules... It's a shame they are the kind who have to learn lessons the hard way, when it comes to how evil other people can be. Truly the liberal mindset: "It won't happen to me"... then when it does: "Somebody else should solve this for me". Oh well. Sorry for ya, but sorry for you parents especially if someone does take advantage of their oblivion... But take solace in that you could make your own rules in your own home. There's a goal. I assume that you're a student? Perhaps a like-minded room-mate would make it more affordable if you only have time for a part-time job? -
2009 CBR1000RR w/mods sure will bust 190... runs 9.7 in the 1/4 as well, which is within .2 of a stock 'busa... plus it'll go around a corner My 2008 CBR600RR stops before 160 though (bounces off redline at 155-156), since I've got it geared higher.

It was a bike... and I was braking hard when he got me. a second earlier and he'd have registered 190+

I got pulled over for 176 in a 55 last year, and got a warning... I think he was shocked that I actually stopped. (yes, I know my hiney should have been grass)

The most enjoyable gun I ever fired, chambered in .357sig was an XD-357 Service... second on the list was the P239, and a close third was a Glock 32. I also had an M&P-357... I hated it, not because I dislike anything about the M&P line, but because for some reason the recoil characteristics of that caliber in that gun made the slide 'bounce' off of battery, as if the slide velocity was too high. I think they just had the wrong weight recoil spring in the gun. Also, I has issues with bulged brass and off-center and out-of-battery primer strikes. I would recommend any other .357sig pistol than the M&P, honestly. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handguns/2733-new-pistol-fullsize-smith-wesson-m-p-357-a.html

Sure have... and buying as well. Best part was putting a face to a name and a name to a username.

I guess my question would be... is it beginning to malfunction? If there is crud in places you can't get to via field stripping which is impeding the action, then the only option is detail stripping or some time in an ultrasonic cleaner.
