  1. At the ranges where a laser is of the most use, a person with sufficient practice can accurately point-shoot. I've personally found that lasers hurt my accuracy more than help (distraction), and they detract from instinctive pointing of the weapon. I do think that they are great dry-firing tools though... since they will show you where your muzzle goes when you pull the trigger.
  2. Maybe I'll buy a Veemer here in a couple years, to support the local economy.
  3. Sadly, I am unarmed for 9-10hrs a day, 5-6 days a week... to, from, and during work. But, I can still answer yes, I guess, because I am armed every day on my own time.
  4. Sigmas are actually pretty well known to be very reliable... I would bet that the magazine(s) are to blame. But if not, S&W has a great warranty and customer service. I'd probably try different ammo, a different mag, and maybe a good clean & lube before calling them.
  5. I need both a .45acp revolver and a .357mag revolver, perhaps even a 9mm revolver if I can find one... and it's exactly for the reason stated. Those are the calibers I have, and I don't really want to add any more.
  6. The P232 is a nice little pistol... I miss the P230 that I used to have.
  7. So... would it be fair to say that reloading is only really worthwhile for people who either: Shoot a LOT or, Shoot for extraordinary accuracy at long ranges ??? Since, as a defensive handgunner primarily, I'm not at all concerned with anything better than fast, repeatable A-zone hits from 5-15yd... perhaps the cheapest commercial loads are the best match for the vast majority of shooters. ie. Wolf and S&B
  8. Of all of the Glocks... the G36 and G29 have the most appeal to me. The G36 because It's actually shaped better than the others to fit the human hand, and the G29 because 11rd of 10mm in a Compact platform is just damn sexy. Congrats!
  9. http://www.nhccs.org/visitor_past.html It says 'Author Unknown'
  10. You can pay your use tax here: http://www.tennesseeanytime.org/usetax/ It's pretty easy, done it a couple of times on large internet purchases.
  11. I don't follow your logic there, as it applies to self-defense... Any caliber can indeed kill. That's not the point though, we want fast incapacitation instead of a slow bleed-out. That can medically only occur if the CNS is disabled, or the perp gives up their attack due to shock. I don't think any of us wants to count on 'shock factor' when our life is on the line, thus the obvious disdain for rounds with quick energy dump and insufficient penetration when the best option is maximum penetration, especially when using a low powered caliber such as .380acp.
  12. The regular JHPs are pretty well known for core-jacket separation and reduced penetration. Their DPX line is very well-regarded, however.
  13. Wolff offers a reduced power striker spring: http://www.gunsprings.com/SemiAuto/SmithWessonNF.html#Sigma4 That's really the only way to improve the pull much, since it's a DAO. You might be able to polish up the sear engagement a bit to make it smoother... but pretty much you'll just have to live with a heavy trigger as long as you keep that gun.
  14. Yes, and though I only ever had one opportunity to see some of the loads go through a chrono, it has always lived up to its claims. Buffalo Bore loads to similar performance levels.
  15. The newer finish is more glossy, like a Glock or M&P. The old finish resembled parkerization. If you have the case, it should have a date on it somewhere... if it's older than 2006, it's not melonite (unless it's been refinished already.) I've had both finishes and had a problem with neither... probably has something to do with my habit of spraying a light coat of WD-40 on my guns before wiping them down. They don't rust, even though I rarely clean them, shoot them in the rain, and sweat all over them.
  16. A Sig P239 9mm is a soft shooter with enough mass to tame recoil, and a small enough grip to be comfortable in small hands.
  17. I'm so tactical that I had to apply for a type 10 FFL to take a deuce.
  18. Low-Recoil 12ga Buck would be a better option... but if a .410 is what you've got, it's better than a sharp stick, by far.
  19. Ya' know... something we ought to look into is a TGO hiking/camping trip.
  20. Can you shave with it too? Looks pretty neat, either way. I'll have to check one out.
  21. Actually, they changed FROM frangible TO Gold-Dots a while back... finding that Glaser and Magsafe rounds have poor terminal performance (despite the hype).
  22. Here's mine: Great shooter. A bit large and heavy to carry, but 14+1 of .45acp is nice... I keep it by me at home. I ought to get a mounted light for it I think.
  23. I'd love to find a used S&W 940... and have money to buy it, at the same time...
