  1. I've been hearing some horror stories recently about P220 reliability... not sure how I feel about that.
  2. Oh, but we shouldn't judge Chicago or Illinois by reality! Come on folks... this is a state graded highly by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, after all!
  3. A Vegas Showgirl huh... What does that have to do with anything, except make the whole article seem ludicrous?
  4. It wouldn't be hard at all for me to pull up every transaction which I've made with any of my or my wife's favorite restaurants, a few thousand dollars for sure in the last year... I'd bet a collective tally of just the members here could total at least a million dollars spent in TN restaurants in the past year, now, that's a drop in the bucket compared to the collective revenue of the TN Restaurant Association's members, I'm sure, but it would be a large number to throw out there when asking for their support of restaurant carry... if we could convince them that their business is better with us patronizing them. Trying to hurt their business might be the wrong tactic.
  5. We should do some research to find out where our efforts would have the greatest effect.
  6. c'mon, I can do that off-hand...
  7. Perhaps a more attention-getting tactic would be to do this 'eat-in' wearing an empty holster (if the resturaunt serves alcohol). Pick a day and chain, I'll do it.
  8. Just because they 'can' beat somebody else's price doesn't mean that it's worthwhile for them to do so. They are in business to make a profit, not see how many guns they can blow out for next-to nothing... that would make poor business sense.
  9. A distributor/importer can get guns more cheaply than a dealer, some large dealers become distributors for one or more manufacturers, and thus can gain a better margin on their own retail sales, compared to other dealers. I think that there are very few Glock 'distributors' who get a better price. One per state if I heard right.
  10. I see no evidence of any current progress with legislation because of Mr. Harris either, but he is the NRA-ILA's counsel in TN for better or worse. I think it's fair to judge that he was involved with efforts made by the NRA on behalf of gun-owners here since the right-to-carry initiative. I have no way to judge how influential he is/was with regard to the legislators themselves because no matter how effectual the TFA could be right now, there's no way for them to overcome the Nafeih dynasty, since good bills don't even make it out of committee. Perhaps the NRA-ILA should hire Betty Anderson as a lobbyist... Either way, TGO should remain what it is, non-political... though we encourage our members to support the efforts of those political organizations who can make a positive difference for them. I think the TFA would be powerful if it could engage gun owners in TN with a proper way to communicate amongst themselves and with their congressmen, instead of just throwing information at them to do with what they please. Accountability is important in such an organization, and it's probably time for the TFA to improve theirs.
  11. 'afford' as in I can afford to get a bigger gun because I have something else that is concealable... ...I wish though... I would.
  12. It says something about the laws when the state can't even follow them properly...
  13. There is apparently a large gap between what the people of TN want to see done, what the NRA tries to do, and the actual influence of the TFA. I don't think it has always been this way, because everything I've seen and heard indicates that the TFA was created during the birth of the carry initiative in TN as essentially the vehicle for the NRA to pick up support from TN residents, and direct it to the attention of the legislature. John Harris did have a major role in that, no doubt. In the present 'information age', more people are able to be involved with the goings on electronically... The TFA has not kept up with that, and has lost momentum. What John Harris does as a lobbyist is important, and not insignificant... it is simply a matter of him being unable to do that job effectively without the support of TN residents, and since few of us are able to be physically present with him at any given time, the best option is an active, unified internet presence. There are always some of us here. Why not create a TFA forum which is connected directly to an output which the legislators access directly as the issues come up, to see what their constituents have to say? Moderate it strictly to maintain a positive, constructive presentation, but a scrolling stream of support or rejection from thousands of participants for the various measures up for grabs would be difficult-if-not-impossible to ignore, if only this resource was simply tapped. And it would be far more efficient for them than sifting through piles of e-mail or letters and responding to each one. Web postings don't equal action only because those postings don't reach the decision-makers. But they could.
  14. Does the Owl Hollow range have covered positions? I just looked at the weather, and it's supposed to be thunderstorming on Saturday... Perhaps we should consider an indoor range as a 'plan b'?
  15. This is 2 distinct questions, really... - Should a person who takes on the responsibility of using a dangerous tool be expected to seek for themselves to be capable of handling and operating it safely and proficiently? Yes, of course! - Should it be up to the government to pre-determine who is responsible and proficient? No, that is an evaluation which must be made on an individual basis, not a rubber-stamped 'certification'. The only place government has in this equation, is punishment of irresponsible or harmful behavior, NOT pre-determination of whether one is or is not qualified. Now, since we're not naive, of course we must realize that there are some people who simply are incapable or unwilling to act responsibly... but until they actually make a mistake or commit a crime, the responsibility for correcting misguided or reckless behavior should lie with the people around that person who do know better, through education and admonishment. There is no 'test' by which any government or agency could universally determine who will or will not be responsible.
  16. I just carry the FMJ ammo which I use at the range and know will function in my gun, and because penetration is important... If I was going to carry a JHP, I would go for the heaviest bullet I could find, which would likely be the 102gr Remington noted above. Penetration is key when power is limited (and even when it's not).
  17. Thanks to Alan, Jack and everybody else for making a great match, tremendous and safe fun. We had a great turnout, and as noted TGO was well represented. It was good to meet some new faces, and see everybody again. I'm just glad that I didn't embarrass myself too badly for my first run at IDPA. The side-match was the most fun for me... plus burning through a mag in Dan's full-auto G19 in the blink of an eye. I plan on trying to make one of the USPSA meets in Manchester coming up, for a fresh comparison... and make a commitment to participate more.
  18. Looked at the USP45... didn't care for the grip especially, nor the location of the safety/decocker. I might consider an LEM model, and I do like the feel of the USP45 Compact grip. Still, I am pretty much narrowed down to the DW 1911 CBOB 10mm or a SIG P220 SAS Carry... and based on what I'll be using it for, I'm thinking that I'd like to carry a 1911 again more than I'd like to carry a Sig again.
  19. My wife (RedHead1911) will be there.
  20. Good deal.
  21. The panties in 2000s are on the men's clothes-line...
  22. Welcome to TGO!
  23. Is it safe to take with Fukitol? Or, should I consult my proctologist first...?
  24. 10-15yd is probably the best practice distance for defensive pistols... close enough to see your hits easily, far enough away to be a challenge and show you what you're doing wrong.
