  1. That's like saying the Free Speech is only applicable to the spoken word... since printing, writing and typing makes it too easy for people to spread ideas to too many people. Oh well, it seems there's always somebody willing to keep the collective intelligence of the human race down to a manageable level... Why do they seem to always succeed in politics though?
  2. I plan on attending the next IDPA in Manchester... the Shotgun side-match looks intriguing.
  3. Yep, that's the extractor which is missing. Even if you need the plunger and spring too, you're only looking at maybe $8 in parts. www.e-gunparts.com
  4. Yeah, get pants that are a size larger... I did that a few years ago, and now all my jeans fit perfectly without carrying IWB . Or, get some stretchy-pants! Actually, I really like how the 5.11 pants have a slightly elastic waistband... makes them really comfortable.
  5. Saigas seem to be some of the best AKs for the money... steer clear of Romanian/Century guns. Arsenal makes some nice AKs, as well... but you'll pay as much as an AR for one. I had a Polish Tantal that was one of the best put-together AKs I'd ever seen, I'd get another one if I had any interest in rifles.
  6. This part? http://www.e-gunparts.com/product.asp?chrProductSKU=287530C&MC If it's just the extractor, above, then we're talking $1.50 plus shipping.... and maybe get a new plunger & spring for kicks. They're pretty easy to install. If you weren't halfway across the state, I'd offer to do it for you.
  7. Over the last couple years I've been working on a hard-line liberal coworker of mine, who is black, to help him understand the idea of rights and the hobby of shooting... He bought his first handgun last month, and enjoys going to the range with me. That's just one, so of course there's still a disparity... but it's nothing that can't be corrected with more of our participation in education and guidance of those we each know, one on one. I think the lack of minorities in the shooting sports says more about the willingness of those of us in the 'gun culture' to invite them than it does of the minorities, which, to put it plainly, are largely a product of the media slant aimed at them. That's just what I gathered from my recent convert.
  8. Again, I am a 'maybe'.
  9. I'll probably end up expanding the topic to include C&R and Blackpowder firearms. Gun related videos need to go in the Show & Tell area... I'll make sure that's in the description. If we end up needing to separate out the Rifle vs. Shotgun or Pistol vs. Revolver topics, we'll deal with that as needed I think. Currently it's not broken, so I don't intend to try and fix it. We'll see how this works. Thanks!
  10. True, but I figure for the size for the grip, one might as well carry a Service model...
  11. That'd be worth a $5 stamp... Serious competition for the Serbu Shorty, too, I bet.
  12. I went through a few ARs and an AK before realizing that my Marlin 1894 lever action (.357mag) would probably be all I would need in terms of a survival long-gun... and it wouldn't draw as much attention. The 'combat/tactical' handguns and shotguns are for fun, carry and for HD/bugging-in.
  13. I had a SC 9mm a few years ago. It was surprisingly accurate, and more manageable than a revolver of comperable size. The trigger was better than a Glock, and was overall about the same size. If I got one again, I would put a Pierce grip extender on the magazines.
  14. King Solomon's Temple... the one that was just uncovered on Mount Moriah a few weeks ago? Cool.
  15. I use a Stanley tool bag that I bought at Wal-Mart for $20. It's strong, so I don't wory about loading it down with 50lb of ammo, and has pockets perfectly sized for rifle and pistol magazines.
  16. 4 XDs (only 2 at the same time, currently)
  17. Some 'economy' make 1911s can certainly benefit from good springs which perform to their rating. If you've got a common brand (Springfield, Kimber, S&W, etc...), I'd hesitate to change much unless there is a problem, or you are running extremely light or heavy loads which require some tuning of the recoil management.
  18. Hero-Gear in Winchester has several sets of small parts & springs for 1911s, Wilson Combat brand as I recall.
  19. Since the comment has been posed... what would be a better use of this space? A dedicated Shotgun forum, and make the Long Guns forum specifically for Rifles? Or, any other ideas? I'll give this a couple days to hear feedback about whether the Blackpowder subforum should be changed to a different sub-set of guns... or expanded to perhaps encompass Curio/Antique/Relic firearms as well? Otherwise, if no interest is shown, it will be removed and the posts moved to the most appropriate subtopic.
  20. I had a dog that looked just like yours when I was a teenager, a Rottie/Hound mix. I miss him... Max was his name. Thanks for sharing the picture.
  21. jeez... ya' caught me. Can't even put on a dress anymore without somebody trying to be a comedian about it...
  22. The G16 was a shovel, wasn't it?
  23. Always gun, for the past month or two, has been a Kel-Tec P3AT, just because it's very convenient. My main carry gun is an XD-357 Service... which has served me well, has been pretty easy to maintain, and functionally 100% reliable (even when a minor part broke). Just because I like to upgrade every once in a while, I'll probably be replacing it with a DW CBOB 1911 or something of similar quality within the next month or two.
  24. At least you didn't run out of beer. I'd still call it a good day.
