  1. Jeez, I've been missing out!

    trespassing

    Get a big mean dog.
  3. Factory reloads, such as Georgia-Arms, etc. are produced on the same machines as their new ammo, and are held to certain quality standards... It's the handloads by private individuals which aren't regulated, and may have unsafe variances. Besides that, lead bullets (commonly used in reloads, factory or otherwise) aren't totally compatible with polygonal rifling. I'd shoot G-A ammo all day long with no worries, same as I do now, even if I had a Glock... it's the unpredictable stuff one might find at gun-shows which I'd only fire in something with a properly supported action and chamber.
  4. Why not? It'd make a much more economical and useful utility gun than a S&W .500, and with slugs would have similar recoil characteristics... (that cylinder would be pretty big though... probably about 2-1/2" in diameter...)
  5. Kahrs have a smoother trigger, are dimensionally slightly narrower and have better ergonomics than Glocks (subjectively), but comparing the 2 is difficult unless you are only comparing the polymer-framed Kahrs, which are similar in weight for a givne size. Still the advantage of magazine capacity is a plus for the Glock which can't be ignored. But, either way, you're not going to find a Glock which is smaller than the subcompact Kahrs. Kahrs aren't as well known for being reliable, since they generally require a break-in period, whereas Glocks run well out of the box.
  6. The only ones which I am aware of are .410 revolvers, the Thunder 5 and Taurus Judge... I've shot one, and it felt impressively powerful, but for practical useage the extreme spread of the shot and the availability of useful defensive loads in that caliber are woefully lacking. They are best relegated to use as snake guns. Now, if somebody would make a 20ga or 12ga revolver, I'd be all over that...

    Traitor!

Likewise, if you were to remove all humans from the earth, leaving only handguns, there would be no violence. If you just removed handguns, or even all guns, people would just use something else to kill each other with. I don't believe that the person who wrote that knew anything about guns, or ever had a 'class three' license... lying to create the illusion of credibility is a common tactic of the antis.
  8. Those areas both have contact with moving parts when you pull the trigger and the slide recoils, so it would be illogical for anyone to tell you that there shouldn't be some wear there.
  9. My XD-357 with stock trigger has very minor marks in those areas, much less defined than the ones in your picture. It has ~6500rd through it. My XD-9 with Springer Precision Trigger Bar and Sear Kit installed does have marks very similar to yours. It has ~500rd through it. I'm guessing that the shorter travel of the aftermarket sear might allow more contact to those parts when wearing in, but what I can see is nothing to be worried about.
  10. Just about any professional or educational training one can get privately, in any field, will be pretty expensive... Some of the prices I see should probably include the cost of the ammo used, but I don't think the prices are entirely out of line for what I would expect to receive. The problem comes in when, as others have mentioned, the quality/usefulness of the training is questionable, and when the cost of the required materials doubles the cost. If the demand is there, then it's worth what it brings. If class size is an issue, then simply have more classes to move more students through. I'd pay a bit more to be in a smaller class. But I'd only take a class which would teach me a needed skill in an effective manner.
  11. I've carried on several golf courses. Gotta go with some assault golf clubs, too...
  12. Yeah, Yeah... If I can't make the next 'nooga meet, I'll figure out a way to ship it to you.
  13. I had the priviledge of camping in one of our state parks this past weekend... knowing how safe I was gave me a warm fuzzy feeling the whole time I was there.
  14. +1 This is the best use of a HD shotgun, barricaded. I have a pistol by my bed with which to fight my way to my long guns... Once I have them, I'm staying put, and heaven help an intruder who opens the door which my wife and I are behind.
  15. That's how this clarification seems to indicate this provision was intended, yes.
  16. The difference in quality between the LCP and P3AT is very obvious... it's like comparing the Glock to a Steyr M9. The action is the same, but the quality is superior. It's just going to be a matter of which one catches on. Just to clarify, it was the SR-9 which has the 'stapler-gun' trigger (IHMO).The LCP's trigger is smoother than the Kel-Tec, but not significantly different overall.
  17. You can carry openly in an establishment which serves alcohol, in Virginia... but not concealed.
  18. I haven't done IDPA... but I've done 3-gun, which is based on IPSC rules. Since these things are games, and that's how I approach it, IPSC/USPSA make more sense to me for having fun and being competitive. IDPA isn't really lacking anything in competitiveness, I'm sure... but the general attitude I hear that it has some kind of practice value (other than familiarity with your gun, which exists in both), I don't buy into. IDPA has too many rules, and it too tightly orchestrated into specific routines for each scenario to allow one to truly learn to assess and respond to situations. In either one, all you are learning is how to respond to a buzzer, engage targets in a certain order, and operate within specific rules. But they are both fun... IDPA is certainly more friendly to folks who just want to use what they carry.
  19. I suppose a shoulder holster rig with belt tie-downs would solve both problems... by keeping your pants up, and removing some load from them. That's not a good t-shirt solution though unless you don't mide wearing an open button-up overshirt or vest.
  20. The raffle is still going on via another site, and TGO doesn't want to be in the Tennessean's headlines, or attached to an investigation as a conspirator by condoning this endeavor. Don't take any of this as legal advice, we are not lawyers... but we strongly suggest that anyone considering participation in any type of event involving a drawing to win a prize should consult a legal professional before doing so.
  21. Games of chance are illegal in TN unless they are not-for-profit, and have been registered as such via a lengthy and somewhat expensive registration and approval process by a registered 501©(3) which is holding an annual event at a physical location. A violation of this may be classified as a class E felony, if the amount is $10,000 or above. Less than that and it may be classified as a misdemeanor. Regardless of whether the item being raffled is a machine-gun or a Barbie doll collection, the only way to legally do this would be for the item(s) to be donated to the charitable organization completely, as a sponsor for their registered and approved annual event. This is how the Friends of the NRA events are allowed to operate in TN. IANAL, but one was consulted to make sure the right thing is done with regard to TGO.
  22. I got to fondle an LCP and an SR-9 yesterday... and I must say that the grip texture, build quality and ergonomics of the LCP was noticably superior to the Kel-Tec. The trigger pull on the LCP was smoother. The SR-9 felt awesome in my hand, and pointed well... but the trigger positively sucked. Reminded me of a staple-gun.
  23. I wouldn't consider it anti reasoning so much as he has the interests and difficulties of his job to consider when weighing this issue, as it affect him. I agree that the root is indeed a misplaced distrust of HCP holders, but in reality there certainly are idiots out there who make us all look bad... and those are the ones who they usually get face-time with. Just like most of the LEO encounters folks hear about are the bad ones... bad news travels faster and farther.

    Snubbies

I used to run 6" plate racks with a snub-nosed .38 at a range I used to go to. 5 plates, 5 rounds @ 25yd. The length of the barrel really doesn't make the gun very much more or less accurate... but it makes a big difference in the sight radius, and thus how easy it is to shoot accurately.
