  1. I can see the line of thought, but if killing threatened wildlife is already illegal... the possession law in no way makes such a thing more illegal. Punishing a possibility to be capable of causing harm to the park, visitors or wildlife makes no sense... That would be like banning vehicles from State Parks because someone might get the idea to run over a snake, etc..., or do it unintentionally.
  2. We don't know if the Library manager didn't ask for the opinion of the officer regarding how to keep HCP holders from carrying there. I'd like to think that he asked what the law was... but it's more likely that his question was a "what should I do", instead of "what is the law". Opinions are like farts... everybody likes their own brand, and nobody can do anything about it once it's been made public.
  3. Thank you very much for contributing, sir, and providing a balanced perspective on this. I hope you will keep in touch with us, here.
  4. The 5th is a no-go for me... but it's not mandatory that I attend for it to be an official event Unless this weekend works better for everybody else, I'm leaning towards the 26th.
  5. Well then, I'd say the 12th doesn't sound like it'll work for quite a few people... so, the next Saturdays are the 19th and 26th. Let's shoot for then and see what works as they get closer. I wouldn't mind going to the Air Show myself...
  6. Howabout the P06 (.40s&w version of the P01)?
  7. That would fall under Reckless Endangerment, if someone were to indiscriminantly fire in a manner which put others at risk... and it applies everywhere, including parks. The current law has nothing to do with the discharge of firearms, since that is already illegal... it simply restricts their possession.
  8. There's only one day a year that it's okay to shoot reloads in a Glock... July 4th I think. (it was wide open... couldn't help it.)
  9. That would be fun if there were any gun-grabber sites which were organized at all. Most of them consist of 2-3 people who have posted a handful of rant threads and then had no activity since 2003. Most of the action is in the comments of related news stories... those are always fun
  10. I'm jonesing for a Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander 10mm myself... have been for awhile. I've been shooting so many nice 1911s lately that I am tempted to give in and sacrifice my plastic pistols to appease JMB (may he rest in peace). I'm going to go drool on one later today... to be sure, nothing good will come of it.
  11. From what I've seen, it's usually approached as a part-time kind of thing... but I'm sure if one has the credentials (military/LE experience), some type of executive & government security possibilities are likely out there which could provide a good income. Somebody who's been in the business would have more insight. I'm just going on the few types I've met.
  12. Welcome to TGO.
  13. +1 been there, done that.
  14. I'm happy where we are now... quiet neighborhood with no hoodlums, around the curve from a nice golf course along a greenway, can't throw a rock and hit any of my neighbor's houses, and the dogs have plenty of room to run on the property, inside the electronic containment. The worst issue we've had the nosy retired neighbor who likes to meander over and play with the dogs... I couldn't go back to a city and wondering if I'll be mugged right outside my door, for any reason.
  15. Even so, there's no way that Glock manufactured 25 times more pistols than S&W... that would be abround 5.5 million just in 2006. I would be interested in the import record of Glock and others... it's sure to be impressive. But, my question is, what Glock models are manufactured in the US which would account for the number listed?
  16. Thanks... didn't catch that.
  17. I would be very surprised if Glock sells 25 times more guns than any other handgun manufacturer... Though I don't doubt that they do have a large portion of the market. Where did you read that information?
  18. Problem is, as mentioned in another thread here as well... the current law is worded in a manner to effetively revoke justification for self-defense if one is engaged in unlawful activity (ie, carrying where prohibited).
  19. Numerous safeties on guns are akin to to the operations needed to get a vehicle in motion. Safety 1: Keyed ignition Safety 2: Shifter Safety 3: Parking brake Trigger: Accelerator pedal/clutch Some people still drive their cars into fixed objects unintentionally, and some people fail to get their vehicle moving when needed, because one of the 'safeties' was on. Still, if there was a vehicle which required no key to be inserted and turned, no parking brake to be disengaged, and no actuation of the shifter before pressing the gas to get in motion, it's not difficult to fathom that the people who were careless with the more complicated controls will be even more likely to unintentionally put the car in motion when it's so much easier to activate (ie, getting in/out of the car foot hits the pedal and crash through the garage door). Of course it's a training and awareness issue... but we're talking about humans here
  20. Non-steel frames can be a bit less durable, since the forward momentum of the slide returning to battery is concentrated at the webbing of the slide-stop pin, it needs to be strong. 4" and 5" guns will be equally precise, mechanically... it's just easier to shoot a gun with a longer sight radius, and more weight at the muzzle. Concealability might be a concern for the longer gun, but generally the hardest portion of a handgun to conceal is the grip. Velocity loss from a 4" barrel vs. a 5" barrel is negligable for defensive purposes, but 10% loss is in the ballpark. The biggest concern for shorter-than-original-design 1911s is reliability, but as long as the gun was properly put together and tuned, it should be fine.
  21. Barrel alignment is maintained, and more precise locking/unlocking without having to maintain tight tolerances. Also, less force is transmitted directly into the locking block, so recoil is smoother. I'd consider a rotating barrel lockup, as well...
  22. Really? I have no direct experience, but every biography and account I've read has been pretty clear that most knew that they were horrible human beings, some even proud of it.
  23. Go look up the definition of 'ideology' I didn't quote the dictionary, obviously, but 'collection of ideas' is just a simpler form of 'body of concepts' or 'science of ideas'. So, Mr. Horiuchi was given the okay to consider Mrs. Weaver holding an infant to be a target? Again, these situations started off as an attempt to enforce flawed laws... and escalated into massacres due to over-zealous agencies. How is that not the case?
  24. Good points. but, the error is that you assume that the laws which were being enforced against the Weavers and Davidians were 'right'. As I've said before, the Nazis thought that they were 'right', and executing lawful orders. In both scenarios, it was 2 groups pitted against one another, both believing that they were right. Only in hindsight can we judge who truly was. Do you think that Mrs. Weaver should have died because of a shotgun barrel that was less than 18" in length?
