  1. It's pretty stupid to differentiate between bars, resturaunts, taverns, etc... they all serve alcohol. The law should simply be that folks can carry firearms anywhere not prohibited by the owner of the property/business. Anything else is just making laws for the sake of having laws.
  2. Those Winchester SX3 / FN SLP actions are super fast... It must be felt to be believed.
  3. The +p on the Magtech & Cor-Bon loads is simply marketing and/or overpressure rounds which no manufacturer would reccomend the use of... there is no SAAMI recognized spec for .380acp +p
  4. .357sig would be an awesome carbine round... not cheap though, and I wouldn't expect a cheap blowback mechanism to contain the pressure well either.
  5. I can see where the confusion could occur, however, since in those times those who performed the function of police were indeed an extension of the military... In the US, the police are not an extension of the military, so the distinction between civilian and law enforcement isn't real. It is a profession, not a social status.
  6. Not sure there is such a thing as SAAMI spec for .380acp +p... I could be wrong. At the very least it is simply implying that the load exceeds the SAAMI spec for the cartridge. I would be wary. Blowback pistols generally don't fare too well with excessive pressure, since it is not contained by a delay mechanism when fired. Wouldn't it be more suitable to find a 9mm that she is comfortable with, if you really think the extra power is necessary? That is essentially what you're doing, except with a significant loss in safety margin.
  7. I liked the .45gap pistol I had... I'd own another if the cost of ammunition wasn't even higher than .357sig So far the only platform which truly captures this caliber's advantages is the Glock 39 (subcompact), and the Para Carry Gap 1911. There really isn't a point to having a full-size gun in this caliber... and I can say that because I was the dumaz who bought a Tactical XD in .45gap (albeit before the .45acp version was announced).
  8. That's what I would expect, as well... But, I'm not going to sell my P3AT until I get to at least hold one and read a few reviews.
  9. .38super is well behind the .357mag and sig (closer to 9mm +p)... but the .38super +p and the 9x23 are right in the same ballpark as medium .357sig loads and light .357magnum loads.
  10. I don't make anything here in a month... does that mean it's free? I'll take one!
  11. That must be the Glock 7... I'd own one, but they cost more than I make in a month. .357sig works for me quite well, as a substitute.
  12. Punch some nails through the fence, so that the pointy end protrudes a bit... that'll teach doggie a lesson next time it slams into the fence.
  13. I would suggest a 20ga or 12ga (using low recoil loads). Preferably a pump or SxS, to maximize simplicity of loading and operation. If a handgun is easier for her to store and have access to, I'd recommend a .38spl... recoil is easy to control (especially with adrenaline pumping), and it hits hard enough to kill a dog at least.
  14. There's always a point of diminishing returns... but in terms of common handgun calibers, effectiveness is certainly determined by the ballistics, characteristics of the bullet, and the precision of the shooter. The most common limitation is the ability of the shooter to be precise with a powerful load... so the trade-off for a more controllable chambering wins out, hence the effort put into designing an expanding bullet for the weaker calibers which will maximize their potential within specific criteria suitable to the application (ie greater than 12"-14" penetration is unnecessary for humans, so expanding bullets are used to make a larger hole just up to that depth...). It's just not practical to carry a large-bore magnum, even though such power would certainly be ideal for rapid incapacitation, if it could be wielded proficiently. .45acp is easier to shoot, in it's common platforms... .357magnum can be punishing by comparison, unless one is using a gun which weighs twice as much. So, considering the similarities of the overall energy and tested penetration (along with both of their excellent reputations), I would say that for self-defense that the .45acp would be a better choice. Now, if the .357magnum's power was harnessed in a pistol which was equally easy to shoot as the .45acp, I'd opt for that. Since it is slightly more powerful.
  15. You mean, you don't already have ceramic plates duct-taped to your chest and back, underneath your clothing!? I changed the oil in my up-armored Winnebago last night...
  16. Wait, it's not April 1st yet...?
  17. .45gap has always used small pistol primers... it's interesting that some newer .45acp brass is configured this way.
  18. Zombies burn easily... I'd say that a 9mm carbine with incendiary ammunition would get the job done.
  19. Follow me and I will lead you into a new age of peace and self-realization! I dunno... the police are the boots-on-the-ground which execute the policies created by the politicians on an individual basis. Yes, the police have more direct power, but it is not them I ultimately fear, and that's because I don't willfully violate the just policies of the politicians. If the criminals who are caught were punished more harshly, by keeping them out of society, the police could be far more confident that a person whom they run across on the street is a good guy, unless they witness a crime being committed. Sure, there isn't space in prison for every petty offender, so the line has to be drawn somewhere, but it wouldn't be hard to draw that line well separated from those who would be a threat to public safety or the safety of LEOs... There sure are plenty of pine boxes and burial plots for the capital offenders, on the other hand.
