Fifth Sunday IDPA-lite Shoot For TGO Members
molonlabetn replied to The Rabbi's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
looks like a blast, guys... I didn't get freed up until a half-hour before the match, and I'm an hour and a half away. Next time. -
Just to add to my previous comment... Since you are familiar with situations involving the urgent need for a firearm, though it sounds like that was in a different setting than you deal with on a daily basis, is the issue you have carrying your weapon with the chamber loaded due to your mistrust of the firearm to remain safe, or of yourself to handle it safely? I'm a little confused about the reason. Because if it's the gun you mistrust, perhaps it would be a better idea to find a different model which you feel secure enough in keeping loaded?

TNDoS has the same length of time to issue a renewal as they do a new permit, technically... that's 90days, so it's possible that you will be without a permit during that time. However, due to the wording of 39-17-1351 (q), as long as you have not been sent notice of denial, your receipt in conjunction with your expired permit are sufficient to keep you legal.
-
I'd like to hear which one you prefer, after shooting them side by side. I've messed with an FNP-9, and it compared well with the XD on the range... didn't really care for the initial DA trigger-pull though.
-
Nobody can criticize that's your choice to make... and I think I can speak for everyone that we hope you're not shown to be wrong about that. The best advice is to be consistent, in whatever you do for your own security.

Atheists? I don't believe in them.

That's awesome. I couldn't have written that story better myself... brings a tear to my eye to see CNN run it.

If you're expecting something to happen, and you don't desire to be in harm's way, you shouldn't be there. If you're expecting something to happen, and you have an interest in being in harm's way, you should have brought more than a pistol. If you are thrust into a situation requiring immediate lethal response to remove yourself from harm's way, you'd better have a round chambered.

I'm no lawyer, just to make that clear, but it would seem to me that any crime which was perpetrated with your weapon would be traceable to you, and you would ultimately be answerable to it if the gun was not reported stolen. Providing a weapon to someone who will commit a crime with it will buy you a conspiracy/aiding-and-abetting charge or something of the like I have no doubt. I wouldn't ever loan a weapon to someone who I didn't trust to only use it in a justifiable manner... but I would loan a weapon to someone who I trusted, and needed it.

I've been hearing this for years... and I believe it. The condition of the brass seemed to me to be obvious seconds or once-fired.

A .223 chamber using .223 ammo is the most accurate... some manufacturers offer a match chamber (which has close tolerances).

Yep, he's unelectable. -
I've only heard good things about them... they are probably one of the most under-appreciated economy pistols on the market. The few I've fired functioned just fine.

Perhaps even expand that to include felonies and violence or drug-related misdemeanors... I cringe at the thought of how many criminals we pay to stay home on the couch. This would of course have to be used in conjunction with stiffer penalties on said criminal activity, since those who would not be on the government's dole, and were unwilling to work, would be tempted to make money in an illicit manner. -
The NFA is about money and about appeasing reactionary liberals. The whole argument that the rate of fire, barrel length, or muzzle blast noise determines the likelihood that a gun will be used in a crime, or is even 'more lethal', is fundamentally flawed. It is the natural progress of any technology to become more effective and/or user-friendly... weapons are now advanced to the point that one person can do considerable damage, that is clear. Just like many modern technologies, including the fact that one person can do greater damage with their SUV than our ancestors could with their horses. To universally limit the progress or access to technology because a small percentage of people are apt to misuse it is not even remotely just... Though I will agree that point-of-sale background checks are sadly necessary, because the justice system regularly allows repeat offending criminals back out into society. Even so, it is an egregious overstep of the government's bounds to require 'registration' of certain types of small arms, just because of their configuration. It's very much like regulating free-speech by requiring an expensive license in order to legally say certain things, but not others.

It's 50/50 whether I'll be able to make it, at this point... I want to if the weather holds off. But if it looks like rain, since that'll prevent the match, I wouldn't make the drive. -
And they are probably right. But prudence would suggest that one should never say never. In a 5 minute search, I found several reports of drop-discharges with 2nd gen Glocks, the one I posted was simply the most credible citation. I'm sure that they would have said that before the DEA tests, as well. I don't doubt that the 3rd gen models are far less likely to discharge. I'm not knocking the Glock as a perfectly adequete weapon... but it's certainly fair to point out that design flaws have been covered up, when a recall should have been in-order... since the issue was brought up.
-
I'm not saying it's common, but it certainly has occurred... and is certainly a design issue which Glock ignored, except to make slight changes in later models (without affecting parts commonality ). Perhaps those changes are sufficient to mitigate the poor design, but the truth is, the flawed design is still being produced with band-aids for when a problem surfaces.

How much ammo do you carry with you?
molonlabetn replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I've seen one! ...well, then again, it might have been a G27, since one of the chunks of the slide that had been blown off was where the '2' would have been. (couldn't resist...) -
http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/upgrade-faq.html#frisbee Glock failed the DEA tests for this reason...
-
I agree with that! No more gun laws, or 'thing' laws... only laws which prescribe punishment for criminal behavior which had been demonstrated to directly cause or promote harm can have any real affect.

Yes, as long as you don't add a foreign pistolgrip stock, flash-hider, and bayonet lug, 922r doesn't apply. But if you ever do convert it, the magazine will count as 3 parts towards that, as long as you use US parts on the rest of the gun.

I don't have a problem with helping out folks who really need it... But this free welfare business needs to be changed into something more like deferred living expense assistance, in which case the recipient is only allowed to draw assistance for a limited time, and after that the amount of assistance which was rendered is due to be paid back over a period of time, as back-taxes. Perhaps something akin to Federal student loans which are deferred during the period which they apply to, and then become due once ineligable. Recipients must also be required to carry enough life-insurance to pay off their debt, in the event that they do not repay before they die. That would neutralize the majority of the net welfare burden upon the government... And make most folks think twice about milking the system, if they can indeed work. -
Since they count for the required 3 US compliance parts, it wouldn't be considered any differently than the 10rd mags... since the AWB is expired. I don't see a problem, as 922r is concerned.
