  1. The differences in the 5.56mm and .223 chamberings aren't due as much to the pressure of the cartridges as it is the leade (gap from the chamber to the rifling lands), and the chamber tolerances. The cartridges are identical, for all intents and purposes... but .223 chambers are set up for greater accuracy. The baseline pressure differences aren't enough to case a kaboom... however using milsurp ammo loaded with bullets which have a long ogive and looser case tolerances can lead to poor accuracy at least, and stuck/out-of-battery cases leading to case-head separation at worst.
  2. Hmmm... so, we need some kind of population control in Memphis, apparently.
  3. 250rd boxes of UMC 9mm from Wal-Mart was $50 after tax when I picked one up the other day for a quick shooting session.
  4. This works just fine. Thanks for supporting the businesses who support TGO!

    Price

Depends on if you're buying from an individual or a shop, in most cases I've seen... But either way, unless it has night sights, $450 is pretty reasonable for a like-new 3rd gen Glock... to as low as $350 or so for a well worn or early generation model.
  6. I show 57 ladies in the members list... a force to be reckoned with!
  7. Atlantic Firearms, they were $22 a pop. Good steel ones. I don't think they were ever offered on the website, I had to specifically request them when I ordered the gun... They might have some to sell separately, but you'll probably have to call.
  8. It was for a while, then they got some more in... it was originally $119 per can.
  9. Out of the lineup you gave, the Kahr is the smallest. I've never owned one, but that would be a prime contender, in my book... along with the XD.
  10. May want to make sure that there isn't any junk gumming up the walls of the mag... that would slow down the follower enough for the bolt to miss picking up the next round.
  11. Is it a Millennium PRO? If it's not then perhaps reconsider... The regular Millenniums are the ones which had poor reviews (I had a PT145 and hated it). The later guns with the DA/SA triggers have been neutrally regarded, but much better than the old DAO pistols.
  12. Greetings!
  13. What mags are you using? Have you disassembled, cleaned and lubed the magazines?

The feed profile for an XD is nearly straight-in... So, for the cartridge to jam on the ramp, it has to be nose-diving. That's almost always a mag problem... either the wrong mag (ie, using a 9mm mag in a .40), or weak springs/bad follower/bent lips. For all of the mags you are using to do the same thing is rather strange, especially since you say they feel like the springs provide plenty of tension. It's possible that the feed ramp is very rough or damaged, but that would be evident when looking at it. Clean the gun thoroughly, and disassemble the mags and clean them inside as well. Give it some lubrication (in the mags too), and try a different brand of ammo. Have another person try shooting the gun, as well. If the problem persists after all of that, your best best is Springfield Armory customer service... they can turn it around to work like new. Everybody makes a lemon on occassion... but methinks this pistol is just worn out or poorly maintained. I've put well over 10Krd through the XDs that I've had, without a single failure to feed (did have to replace a broken pin in one of them, but it worked broken until I noticed it).
  15. By how much?

That could be, if the slide stop is actually engaging prematurely. But if the slide is coming forward enough to stop against the cartridge which is nose-dived against the feed-ramp, it's something else.

Sounds like weak magazine springs... the mags might just be very old. Have you tried letting anyone else shoot the gun, just to see if something you are doing might be contributing to the problem? (please don't take offense, that's simply a good suggestion for diagnosing problems for someone's gun I've never seen shoot) Weak mags do seem to make a gun more suceptible to limp-wristing. Mag springs are cheap... matter of fact most parts for the XD are (www.pistolgear.com has pretty much any factory replacement part you could need). Other than that, take advantage of the XD's lifetime warranty!

That's a bad mag, or an improperly seated mag.... possibly in conjunction with that ammo, but that's not likely. It would be a good idea to try another brand just to see. But for sure get some new factory magazines. Just out of curiousity, what does the bottom of the magazine base-plates say?

what did it do when it jammed? Did the case not eject, or did the next cartridge stop on the feed-ramp?

  23. From the availability of Owl Hollow, and the response here so far, the 12th is the most popular. Let's go ahead and set the 12th in stone. Time and location to follow.
  24. I think at the moment it's between Owl Hollow and Gallatin Gun Club. If both of those end up being viable possibilities, I'll put up a poll for that. Otherwise, we'll go with the one which will accomodate us. Now, where to eat... assuming either of those choices?
  25. I can see how it could happen, but the risk is there using any holster if you're drawing with your finger indexed and have no discipline to keep in straight until you decide to engage the trigger. Maybe Glocks are simply incompatible with the holster...? Maybe certain techniques which are taught are incompatible with the holster...? I've never had my finger land anywhere but the side of the frame when drawing, even very quickly (using SA XD). The recalls were a result of folks using an M&P in a holster meant for a Glock (which they were told would fit it), and discharges occurring when the edge of the holster interacted with the trigger when re-holstering, not when drawing. It was a matter of improper fit. Even the way Paul describes it, accusing the holster of having 'very real issues'... the only common contributing factors which lead to a discharge was Glock pistols and the user negligently pressing inward with their finger hooked towards the trigger. Who teaches folks to draw like that? I've used alot of different holsters, and I certainly don't think that Blackhawk makes 'premium' products, compared to all of them; but when used properly they are perfectly adequate, and have many advantages over other retention holsters... though like any mechanical device have their weaknesses which can be exploited through incompetence. I'd be far more concerned about the potential for the mechanism to be jammed by debris and prevent drawing... which is why I'd be hesitant to use a SERPA if I was going to be climbing and rolling around in a gravel pit. I've heard of this happening one whole time.
