  1. Yeah, I meant as a student I carried a pocketknife constantly. As an adult I avoid schools & wouldn't carry on school property outside of my vehicle. via EPIC4G SRF1.1.0 by Android Creative Syndicate
  2. And I don't believe they need any warrants to have security search your person/vehicle if there is suspicion because they typically require u sign away the right to refuse in the hire packet after the no fondling before the no press interview part. But I violated all my schools zerotolerance since 7th grade when they introduced it, have carried a pocketknife since I got one for my 10th birthday. So no since conforming now I don't have much practice doing it. Do wish we could get some legislative protection like other states though. via EPIC4G SRF1.1.0 by Android Creative Syndicate
  3. There's been some debate recently about being required to divulge a password for things like laptop encrypted files & smart phone unlock codes etc.. part of the argument revolves around the idea that you're being asked to potentially self incriminate as an extension of private thoughts etc. Super gray area going through upper courts now and wouldn't apply to unlocking safes or other devices 'obviously' intended to hold weapons. You might be able to wiggle with a locked briefcase in the trunk "to hold personal journals" at least from a police search w/out warrant. Might be clear company violate. I just won't forfeit my safety for bureacratic policy intended to dissolve liability. via EPIC4G SRF1.1.0 by Android Creative Syndicate
  4. details on monoprice for that item are sparse bordering on sketchy besides. for $40 bucks you should be able to find something in target/walmart/best buy etc. go with g.e., belkin, panamax or monster or other Brand. find something with a joule rating of 1000 or greater.. most 6 outlet strip are about 105 joules. a power conditioner 150-200 is best for a high end t.v. but not justified for most plasma's under 1500 etc. a ups backup is good for allowing fans and boards to power down correctly as opposed to ending abruptly however their actual 'stopping' (mov) is lower. also depending on what you're hooking up consider getting a unit that will provide protection for coaxial cables or ethernet cables. if you're running a surround system with in wall hdmi to a receiver have the receiver and any cable/sat. boxes and blurays, game consoles covered with adequate protection etc. like someone else said electricity is fluid and seeks the path of least resistance and is supaH-fast. cover all your connected devices basically. don't sacrifice quality for convenience. the best way really is the whole house surge protector crimsonaudio suggested. otherwise you can find a brand name surge unit with actual ul rating and listed joule ratings for under 50 bucks. try something like Amazon.com: Belkin BE108200-06 8 Outlet Home/Office Surge Protector with Telephone Protection: Electronics
  5. Regardless of the motives involved, which we may never get accurately, this will be used as a medium to paint all HCP as reckless hotheads. Have to count this one as an L for the community. Id like to see a 501c3 of like-minded HCP that volunteer time to improve situations like a homeless aid or home rehab group or something, anything. But that do it while carrying & advertise. Doesn't matter to me if they did OC or CC. It may seem a little off thread but I think its related. There needs to be a proactive organisation looking. To improve the image by irrefutable deed rather than leave if to the opinion of selective actions. Just a thought, not aware of any groups that do this. To me the NRA spends more time focused on the legislative side which is needed & appreciated but I feel like there needs to be some 'perception' activism. via EPIC4G SRF1.1.0 by Android Creative Syndicate
  6. This seems like an extremely emotional situation of a complex nature geez. I don't have any daughters but my brother-in-law has a modelesque 17 year old with a boyfriend & as a former marine he loves to hunt & has lots of guns. I have no idea how he would react to this if it was her, I can understand the anger of encountering 17yrs of work demolished. I think the father transgressed in his behavior too. I think it was unwise for his self preservation to detain & assault for an hour, it does nothing productive to educate or modify behavior, once a person engages in sex a certain amount of parental authority is relinquished by way of the child no longer accepting that authority and attempts to regain by the parent will never be successful. If I have daughters they will be on birth control from the onset of menstruation & will be well aware that I won't tolerate sluttish behavior while living in my home. If she has no self respect she will need to wait until she's outta my house to live that lifestyle. My job is to teach & guide until you are an adult & can exercise forethought in your actions being mindful of the consequences. I think I would probably kick the whole lot of them out naked. Slap me with a child neglect & put her wherever you want, she's dead to me. via EPIC4G SRF1.1.0 by Android Creative Syndicate
  7. Thank you sir for your discriminate reporting. Congrats on front cover, given all that has transpired over the last few days in news its good to see some editorial consideration being implored to educate on a local interest as opposed to descend into fear mongering for a buck. Your article was good coverage of an issue. I will be content if it doesn't encourage a single person to buy a gun at least it's a refreshing divergence from the typical 'run for the hills he's got a gun' story. Kudos. via EPIC4G SRF1.1.0 by Android Creative Syndicate
  8. I was a latch-key kid of a single mother and grew up in a lot of bad neighborhoods up in new england and around atlanta as we moved around alot. My mother is from TN but grew up in the poor projects of NYC. She was always concerned with safety but was scared to death to have a gun in the house due to some bad experiences in her childhood and wouldn't allow me even BB guns though of course my friends helped me hide them. I was 9-10yrs old and would cut out pictures of guns from the magazines I wasn't supposed to have and put them on my wall behind a non-threatening sports poster haha. 3 non-breakable rules of the house, you must wait until you are 18 to get a tattoo, piercing or gun all of which I Needed pretty badly when I was 13. Turned 19 & saved up and got a tattoo, just came home with it one day. Mom didn't approve but was super calm "At least wait a year before you get any more, you know to make sure nothing was wrong with those needles they used." LOL. Then shock of all 21st birthday comes around.. mom gives me a copy of the receipt where she paid for me to take a hcp class. It's not for her but she will accept it's a passion of mine and still just wants me safe. Never did get a piercing but glad that I wasn't allowed because it's just not me and I feel like I would probably regret it because it's just not an addition to my appearance I want anymore. Early on I lost all delusions of perceive safety being exposed to the things I was. I hope my children never have to experience it quite as abruptly and as startingly but we plan on teaching them gun safety from an early age. It will be their decision if it's their passion but it will be in their knowledge base.
  9. im sure in the midst of what appears to be a formation for the pledge of allegiance he had a fit of tendonitis from all that golfing
  10. Edwin warner park probably be a good coordination point for SHTF aftermath. If potable at the time there is the harpeth for drinking/fishing. Plenty of small game & deer if needed. Accessible from different main thoroughfares. Enough cover to be able to camp/conceal a large party of people while zombie hordes & mass riots overwhelm the sheep. Plenty of exits to more rural areas westward. Just my thoughts if this is what ur talking about. Not sure that I'm on board with big group collaboration until after a good amount of time has passed initially in a TEOTWAWKI situation. via EPIC4G SRF1.1.0 by Android Creative Syndicate

    MADE!

I was in the gas station getting some coffee for the first time after a long night during which a close family member had passed away and was unfortunately not as verbally collected as I am usually when encountering strangers. I tend to avoid trying to convince people of the errors of their ways as I see them or actively sway them to my point of view. It's largely apathy I suppose regarding other people's viewpoints and their inability to have the perspective to alter them when presented with conflicting (enlightening sometimes) information and instead just react with hostility and aversion. So anyolewho there I am beeboppin along trying to find a coffee lid to finish my prep (meaning I haven't yet consumed aforementioned blacktar of life) when the strong odorous wafting aroma of too much rose power perfume overwhelms me, moistens my eyes and turns my stomach. When I glance over there is low and behold the matron of hairdos with the glare of death at my hip, jeez really? Now? "Are you a police officer?" "No ma'am." "Well you shouldn't be carrying that thing around should you?" REALLY?? NOW??? "Ma'am, with all due respect, if in the next 30 seconds someone came in to rob this place and intended to leave no witnesses you might be thankful of my forethought for safety. Hoping that doesn't happen I'd invite you to exercise your need to dole out advice to the next fat woman you see about her choice of unflattering apparel and kindly leave me be. Have a great day." This was a one off occurrence in my control of my tongue but I normally am much more polite in my dismissal. In general, I try to be a steward for good citizenship in representation of legal gun carriers and will provide education if I feel the person is somewhat receptive or not instantly offended. But the rest I won't waste my breath upon. They fall into the category of people that form 95% of their opinions without regard to fact, fall prey to all media and propaganda and are not free thinkers. I am a man, not a paradigm shifting machine. I've got too much stuff to do.
  14. If the US Government were a family & their household income was $55,000 per year, they’d actually be spending $96,500—$41,500 more than they made! That means they’re spending 175% of their annual income! So, in 2011 they’d add $41,500 of debt to their current credit card debt of $366,000! - Dave Ramsey
  15. Assuming it's a factual story I would imagine he posted in english for greater exposure. Most euros are multi lingual. French was the official language of England for 300years a lot of people in France can read/speak or write in english, german or italian with moderate fluency. A SF operative would probably had additional training. via EPIC4G SRF1.1.0 by Android Creative Syndicate
  16. that's so over the top it's hilarious, but really a bic lighter should be all the tactical bottle opener you need to equip yourself with unless you're so covered up you can't use two hands then you'll need a sport cap anyways hah
  17. i just wanna kill some yotes, they's varmin heare, whys this gotsta be so hard dangit
  18. it's an amazing progress that my desktop computer of 10 years ago cost 5 times more than my smartphone but the processor was 4 times slower and it had 8 times less storage capacity. the transition from phone calls to pagers to text messages to mobile emails is interesting. there was a study done that said something like 80% of people under 25 consider it rude to call unless it's an emergency fully half of those won't leave a voicemail and would prefer to send text messages because it allows people to respond at their convenience. 25 years ago a phone call was The Thing! same way nobody writes letters to people for personal correspondence anymore. I think I'm just suspicious of new things and not quick to change, though I often do eventually I tend to deliberate longer than average.. I still worry about microwaving food and how tech progress will impact our society 15,30,50 years down the road from now. My great grand-daddy worked half his life on coal barges because that was one of the best industries for his time/place. Aside from a few locations where are they now.. I think we should open to change and progress (after careful consideration) but always be mindful of the repercussions of what we are doing may be and continously reassess if we are being smart, safe and moral. 20. I'm a little paranoid about ND since my gun doesn't possess a mechanical safety so I don't ride with one in the chamber. I am gambling that like a pump shotgun hopefully the sound of racking a chamber will dispel someone's courage enough that I won't have to use. I have drilled to decrease the amount of time necessary to bring it to shot readiness and fully understand the circumstances where this practice could cost me a significant tactical advantage up to and including death but until I upgrade firearm I feel this to be the safest course of action to prevent ND.
  21. Apes are faster, smarter, stronger and can climb and jump. Zombies can't throw feces like apes either.
  22. Very sorry for your loss. bulldogs are an amazingly affectionate breed and so ridiculously loyal, he looks like my brother-in-laws but bigger. It is always painful and difficult for yourself and your family to lose a loved member that's a bit furrier than the rest. I hope one day soon you are ready to open your home again and offer another amazing animal an incredible life of love and fun and play and bellyrubs and chinscratches etc.
  23. Most of our time goes to animal rescue organizations but we've worked with Mercy Ministries ( Home - Mercy Ministries of America ) which has saved alot of womens lives. We also like Ronald McDonald House ( Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville ) though both are closer to Nashville and I'm not sure how convenient the locations will be for you in the boro which is important. While volunteering does entail self sacrifice you don't want to set yourself up for failure then regret not being able to make the commitment because of distance to travel. My mother had a problem like this with a Murfreesboro literacy program she was involved with while living north of Nashville. Her twice weekly '3 hours' of volunteering she was trying to do was turning into 4-5 each time. I think charitynavigator.org or charitywatch.org can help you find something closing to You in line with Your interests. Volunteering is hard sometimes and it helps if you find something based on an existing interest that is meaningful to you or if it makes use of some unique skillset you possess. I can volunteer with animals or with suicide prevention networks because I love them but can remain emotionally detached enough to help. I love kids but I'd be an emotional train wreck if I tried to volunteer with terminally ill children because I get attached easily. Volunteering is a wonderful job that offers more rewarding pay than any company that's ever cut me a paper check! Glad to hear you have an interest and don't give up, there's an organization that's been needing you and that's probably why you haven't settled on the others. Thanks man!
  24. Cowboy boots / combat boots in winter if I'm appearing in public. Flip flops provide poor traction, support and limited sound concealment with all that hot sweaty slappin noise. If it goes down you may end up lookin like barefoot Bruce Willis in Die Hard with the bloody feet from glass.
  25. Lets just have some actual competency based interviews for people to ensure they understand basic economics before we give them the keys to the vaults and the hand-trucks.... if that fails lets just go back to.....
