  1.   Sorry to be so late to the party, but DaveTN took care of business for me it seems.   That's more succinct that I would've put it, but sums it up nicely.   I will add that no one is making self-defense decisions for anyone else in these cases. You are choosing whether or not to enter the property and defend yourself within the limits posted. Or you are choosing to not enter the property.
  2.   2 things....What monkeylizard said :) and @ peejman I was under the impression that the thicker filters reduced air flow, and thus make the HVAC unit work harder which lead to shorter lifespan. Course I used the thin cheap ones, changed them monthly and the <deleted> thing died 2 months after the warranty so I am open to suggestions :)
  3.   Thanks for the link, big fan of XKCD but somehow never noticed that part....
  4.     Does it go bad this fast, or are you just like me and paranoid? :)
  5.   How exactly are they different, as it pertains to the owner's rights?    Please note I said "as it pertains to the owner's rights?" I understand traffic flow, public vs private space etc., this is about the right of the owner to make said decisions.
  6. Well thanks to you guys I gave Ruth's story a 2nd try (just didn't grab me in the beginning) and now I am glad I did. @REDDOG I will have to look those up, thanks for the headsup!
  7.     Having trouble editing the quote on this pc so just going to leave it as is.   @ LagerHead Please go back and note that I didn't say this place was a crap hole. Second, popularity doesn't mean you are right. Obama comes to mind. More people voted for him than anyone else running.   That said, I come here because certain sections contain information I find useful and/or entertaining. Also, some people here (OhShoot is the first one that comes to mind) are willing and able to explain using facts, logic etc to explain their point. I respect him because even when he schools me, he isn't disrespectful.    Some on here though, enough to apparently give this place a reputation, are disrespectful. Some here apparently lack basic concepts of logic, are completely incapable or unwilling to even consider a different viewpoint, take comments out of context, etc. If I say something on here, then it's because I believe it to be true. Doesn't mean it is the truth currently, or that it was ever true. It may simply be my opinion. If someone disagrees, then by all means say so. Tell me why you think (or can prove) I am wrong.   But when someone takes what I say and twists it, then I attempt to correct them. In this thread, I finally decided this battle wasn't worth fighting, and walked away.    Lastly, I personally think this forum has its good points. I also think it is a great place for the media to come and get comments to use in their biased stories. So I will continue to visit as long as I am welcome.
  8.   Trolling? No you are either not reading or not understanding my posts.   Either way, I am not going to waste more time on this.
  9.   "silly disarm law"    Unless the cop knows you, please explain how he would know you aren't a danger to him or others?   Also, I don't get what you mean by "For oh so many reasons".    Next, what are the odds that the cop will damage your gun while running the numbers?   Finally, assuming you consent, what is the harm in it being run? Worst case scenario it turns out to be stolen, ie you bought it in a private sale etc. Still would be good for the original owner. So aside from your handling quirk, I don't see the harm in a consensual search.
  10.   I very clearly understand the difference. The two things are not even remotely similar. However you have to obey a lawful order from a cop. If he says you are under arrest so turn around etc, that's a lawful order. It doesn't matter THEN AND THERE what he is arresting you for. As you state, that's a matter for the courts later.   Thus, if he decides to arrest you for chambering a round after being told not to, then what part do I not understand?     As to your later post, "sheer derelict"? Making a mistake is dereliction of duty? They didn't arrest him, and "lose the paperwork" so he missed court and had to stay over the weekend. They didn't see an armed person and decide to go the other way.   You got one thing right. You and I do live in different worlds.
  11.         Maybe you should re-read it. Maybe you meant it another way, but it says re-chamber not announce an intention to do so. Second, I think we disagree on the definition of "dictate". As I said earlier, if the cop thinks he is right, and is not attempting to physically harm you in an illegal manner, and unless I am highly mistaken, you have to legally obey his orders. If he wants to arrest you because he believes you have broken the law, ie chambered a round, then if you resist you are wrong.   Now your example in NC sounds like an a-hole being an a-hole and has nothing to do with a cop performing his job.    As to "a bully or dumbass with a badge", no chance you misunderstood like you did me? Who then is the bully or dumbass? Maybe you remembered incorrectly as you did above, could that make him right and you wrong? East_TN_Patriot had a good point a few pages back that cops should know the laws. But as I said, there are quite a few laws, they are changed, a 10 year veteran could only have 2 years on the job in this state/city (I know Metro has recently hired quite a few from NYC) which would provide ample opportunity for a mistake.   In summary, a cop making one mistake in the law leading to a citizen screaming dumbass does indeed prove there is a dumbass involved. The idea that someone is an idiot because you (generic you here since people here seem to take offense real easily and then blame the other person for being butt-hurt) knows something they don't know shows the same.
  12.   Never occurred to you it might be the other way around?   I didn't say you said you would use force. I made a statement, then followed it with another sentence that used using force as an example. You did say they wouldn't dictate to you which sounds like you would argue. You also said you would chamber a round after being told not to, which would be disobeying a order from an officer.   Now I will say that some of what I said was needlessly provocative, I shouldn't have made the comment about you not reading past that line etc. That was out of line. As to acting like a victim, where did I ask for help in dealing with this? Where did I ask a mod to come rescue me from you? I haven't even started fighting with you, this is merely a spirited debate where I come from.
  13.   Since you apparently don't want to debate, I won't. Why?   For example, take the conspiracy comment. You took it completely out of context. I was referring to the situation in the OP, and saying that under those circumstances etc. I was trying to head off someone say Well what about if.....   Yet you didn't ask WTF I was talking about, you just jumped straight into ripping me a new one and insulting me.   Is it any wonder the other forums I visit have a low opinion overall of this forum.
  14.   I don't work in LE, but I don't think it's reasonable to expect them to know every law by heart. I do work in Tech Support, and I am familiar with almost every system, proprietary program, etc that Metro has, but that doesn't mean I have memorized every single shortcut key, nor do I know exactly who handles which backup or when they are run, or even if YOUR specific issue has all of them (daily/weekly incremental, daily/weekly/monthly full etc).   The analogy being, there are too many things out there for anyone normal, ie non-savant, person to know at any given moment and that doesn't count the changes coming down the pike. Add in, those deputies might very well have known the truth, and had some idiot higher up the food chain "correct" them.   Also, they will dictate the law to you, not much choice in that. Now I'm pretty sure you've stopped reading at this point but I am going to say anyway that yes you can disagree, file complaints, sue after you were arrested etc, but I am fairly certain they pretty much can do what they want if THEY believe they are right and they aren't illegally trying to kill you. I don't believe you can use force to escape if they are illegally arresting you for example. Not for something like this, let's not get into conspiracy theories.   Also "regular folks"? What exactly makes them "special"? They are normal people doing a job. I have met a few cops in my day that I don't consider "regular" but that's got jack to do with their job and all to do with what they did on the job proving they are they type of person deserving of respect etc.
  15.     What if I buy all I can because I fear an imminent shortage and want to be able to barter? Wouldn't that fall under preparation? Or if I wanted to sell/trade it for a profit?   In other words, hoarding vs prepping is a matter of perspective. If you are starving, then you would consider a prepper to be a hoarder and yourself an innocent victim of the apocalypse, but he would would likely have a different opinion of himself and of you.
  16.   First I was only half serious, and I thought my PS would help make that clear. Second, if you re-read I didn't say I was wanting to get the license and then claim to be protecting myself. I was asking, and am still curious, if someone who was self-employed as a armed security guard could hire them/their (call a grammar nazi)self and thus carry anywhere. As long as you actually paid yourself, and thus coughed up the taxes etc, I don't see how this differs from actually hiring a bodyguard. Thus building up to what razorback said much more succinctly than I.   Patton demonstrates that this, if legal, wouldn't be feasible for most of us. Still, even as nothing more than an exercise in armchair lawyering, I thought it had some merit.
  17. So if I got my armed guard license, went into business providing armed guard services, and then hired myself to protect myself, I could carry any where I want?       PS: No I don't actually plan on testing this theory, not until the boy is grown and has his own insurance anyway.
  18. I didn't care for it as much as I did AUD. That said, I probably should go back and give it another try. Mostly read it while waiting for a new post from AUD and eventually just stopped so didn't get too far into it.   **edit**    Umm is it just me or is that site horrible to navigate thru? I can't find a link or searchable term to get to the beginning. The rest seems as jumbled together as well....
  19.     This is why I don't keep one in the chamber. If I am not awake enough to rack the slide, I shouldn't be shooting.   YMMV, but given I am not professionally trained etc. I think this is the best option. FTR, my son is 8 and knows not to play with it etc etc, but like the OP said only takes one moment of being a kid...
  20.   /thread. :)
  21. Scary but at least they are at the range so hopefully getting better....
  22.   Props to you my man. We have enough trouble wrangling our 8 yr old around....
  23. @Keyless KFC and Toxic Hell are owned by the same company that owns PH.    I seem to have missed the Walgreen's thing....TO THE GOOGLE!!! :)   **edit** Yikes....with that many diff. results, I am assuming they post? Can ya give me a city to add?
  24. Have to agree with RobertNashville on this one. I support their right to their company, their rules, but at the same time my money, my rules. Which is what I posted on their FB page.   Like mcurrier I too delivered pizzas and though I never had any trouble I knew several people who did get beaten. Oddly enough, none of the drivers that I knew were armed in some way ever got jumped and all the ones that did were not even carrying a flashlight. I think it was more mindset etc than anything else, but knowing I had a switchblade backing up my full size Maglight sure helped my confidence :)
