Some of the stuff you guys are bitching about makes me shake my head. It's a TV show aiming for a mass audience, so no they aren't going for gritty realism with clothing and such. The uncle/bad guy bit? He only knows about the "conspiracy" because of his friend. Maybe that was part of his motivation of going from Sgt. to General (or whatever his title is). Also, without that, not much show is there? The girl. She is a teenager raised in a village, not a murdering street thug. As to ganking the warden, it's called personal growth. Also, you don't consider killing in a fight (warden) different from killing a unconscious prisoner (bounty hunter)? I could go on, but it's just a show. It's not great cinema, it's not a survival training video, etc. I get why you guys don't like it, but not why all the hate.

Given those things live up to their name if I get near them, I will take your word for it. Seriously though, there is no reaction from the tea? My brother is immune to them BTW. Gotta love genetics! There. Fixed it for ya!

Ok so you have a bunch of silver coins. Why would I trade you food for it? Unless one of my neighbors is looking for silver, I would have to hope someone wanders by that both wants silver, and wants to trade as opposed to kill me for my food. That's a gamble, and thus I would want a bunch of silver before I would even consider trading. **edit** Caster beat me to it. But I will leave this here anyway. With any luck, things will hold off long enough for the wife to finish her Phd in Nursing, then we can just tell people she's a doctor and can provide medical services. The truth as far as it goes

On the muskets etc comments...remember electricity is gone. Not stuff was zapped, but electricity itself doesn't work. So 15 years later I think ammo is going to be in short supply. You can only reload so many times right? How many people can make new primers and cases without electricity? As to armor, the first American colonists started wearing breastplates again due to the Indians using bows, so seems logical to me they would wear what works. Over all, it's a TV show. It's not going to be perfect. If you can suspend disbelief to enjoy a zombie show, why not roll with electricity not working?

Good point. I would prefer both, as I like the idea of keeping my distance

I'll be darned. I went looking for evidence to prove Dolomite wrong (as I didn't believe it for a second) and the last two paragraphs of this say 6 hours will do the trick. I stand corrected and thanks for the info Dolomite.

It's harmless in such small doses. My parent's house had a well when I was growing up and they had (still do as a backup) and automated system that automatically added bleach to all the water coming into the house. Never noticed the smell until I moved away and came back for visits.

Do you carry your firearm with one in the chamber?
Makiaveli replied to Hoky_Tonk69's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I think this is the best way to handle it. Maybe without the reaming his supervisor part. If you complain anonymously, then they may ignore it. If they know who you are, well I explained to a off-duty Lt. what he did wrong while trying to tell me I was wrong (I wasn't) up in Hopkinsville, KY back in the 80's and let's just say I accelerated my plans to replace my car with a slightly newer model -

I was replying to Mike's comment and we were, in my opinion as well, getting off topic. As to the rest, you keep saying I need to re-read the post. Did you ever re-read mine with an eye to MAYBE, just MAYBE it wasn't me? Not saying it wasn't, just asking did you ever consider the possibility that I didn't make myself clear and there was a misunderstanding? We've both posted our feeling on the OP. The rest is just a infraction waiting to happen. So let's just drop it, and move on. -
I think a flex-fuel vehicle would be the most practical "alternative" option at this point. Though my dream vehicle is something like a M35

As Il Duce mentioned there are natural options, just not up to speed on them. I vaguely remember that Amer. Indians used a type of twig and that early toothbrushes were made with pig hair. A dental kit is a great idea. Even if it's just a dedicated pair of pliers **edit** Wonder if there's a natural remedy that would take the place of Benadryl etc? Same with asthma medication.

Now that's funny Toothpaste is something that popped into my head the other day that I don't recall ever seeing on a prepping "suggestion list". Got me to thinking about certain things and what is a luxury and what is needed for good hygiene. Gonna stock up on these as well...no point in stinking up the joint

True but then it would only be a short-term solution, as opposed to say a bow since you could create strings and arrows and even theoretically a new bow. Sorry I wasn't clear. So I guess the solution would be to learn to use an actual sling

Sorry. I won't post anymore off-topic. -
Wouldn't surgical tubing dry out and become useless though? I am under the impression that, being made of rubber, it doesn't hold up well.

Good because you didn't understand what I wrote above. I point blank stated what I thought you said, then clarified that this is what I thought whether or not you said it. I didn't make disparaging comments till you did. I didn't cherry pick quotes period. Based on what Robert just said, I now think I missed your sarcasm, and took it literally. So if you had simply explained that instead of assuming I was an idiot, this would've been over alot sooner. I am not an idiot, but I do make copious quantities of mistakes on teh intarwebz since I am a geek, and thus tend to take things literally as written etc. -
What is the average life expectancy of the bands? Can they be stored long term? By long term I mean by prepper standards Also, anyone know of a source of info for making new bands in a EOTWAWKI type situation? In other words, slingshots have been on my mind for awhile since we got the boy one to play with.

The OP said IF the law allowed, I thought you said (whether you did or not) that he said given it wasn't allowed. One of us misunderstood. Nobody here is stupid, so no need to act like someone is. Which is usually casts the actor in a bad light. -
Thanks for the link. A really nice post there from backdoorsurvival.com detailing a 12 month step by step program to prepping so newbies don't get overwhelmed. Gonna pass it along to my in-laws as they keep asking questions and this will let me act like I know what I am doing!

I wasn't trying to "continue this argument", I was replying to the comment TMF made that you seconded. However, since it seems obvious that we will not agree even on what it is we are talking about, how about we just drop it and move on to a different topic? -
Think on this a sec. There's only 1 walker. If you shoot him, how many more will be summoned by the sound? A bayonet would be a great thing to have in this situation.

We are going in circles. What you quoted from me wasn't in response to what you quoted here. @TMF I understand what you are saying, and I definitely feel your frustration as I have had things stolen. However, killing over pocket change isn't something I agree with. I can understand the argument about losing the tools you use to make a living with, yet I can also see the insurance argument. I know that last part wasn't directed at me, but I don't think everybody here who doesn't like the idea of shooting over stuff is a coward. I don't recall anyone saying they wouldn't attempt to protect what's theirs, I think the disconnect comes when the bad guy refuses to surrender himself or the objects being stolen. Not wanting to kill a man doesn't make you a coward. I don't want to kill a human being period. I would given sufficient cause, but I hope never to have that cause arise again. -

Unless I am mistaken, you said you would shoot them because they were stealing your car, not because you felt you were in danger. Killing over property isn't legal in TN. The visitation bit was meant as a joke Yes I have been in a situation where I pulled the trigger on someone in self-defense. I am very thankful that a miracle occurred in that the gun misfired, he ran off when I called the rifle everything but a decent human being and ran off while I cycled the action for another try. If the police had become involved, I would have told the truth, ie he was trying to open the window and being in Ky at the time that would've been that.
