  1. TMF 18B, on 18 July 2012 - 07:11 AM, said: Well, I think for the sake of the scenario it should be assumed that it is immediately obvious that an innocent is being assaulted. Do you have to be? Legally or morally I mean? My point being is you find out later she was completely innocent, and since you had that 5% doubt you let her die. You cool with that? Versus you shoot the guy and find out that yes she started it, he had been stabbed and was stabbing her and you killed him. Ok that's less black and white than the first scenario, but he was stabbing someone who wasn't a threat any longer. Yes mistakes can happen. You can be justified and still wind up in trouble. But the idea of watching someone get murdered? I think that's worth the risk. Otherwise my son would grow up thinking it's ok to let other people die.
  2. FAQ says they are focusing on making it available in under-developed countries etc. It has a link where you can sign up to be alerted if the home stove becomes available. The little one is now on my Xmas list
  3. I believe the standard is fear for your life etc etc. Just because they went out the door doesn't mean they aren't going to come back. Look again at the last shot he fired, when the guy was on the ground. The BG was facing him, not face down etc. Are you trying to say he should have waited to see if the BG was going to draw a gun or point it at etc before he fired? I think the problem here is the idea that just because they are running away I AUTOMATICALLY lose the LEGAL right to be in fear of my life. It isn't unreasonable to be in fear of them coming back. No that isn't a logical extrapolation at all. Both were armed. A bat is a weapon when wielded as I assume you would agree. Also, they were acting suspicious, they were actively attempting a robbery. I don't see the slope on that, much less a slippery one. My take on this is he did not chase them or "act like a cop". He engaged them in his and other's defense. When they exited the building and were actively leaving the area, he stopped firing. What could possibly be wrong about that? What was he supposed to do? Wait until they harmed people and not just expensive computer screens? I think he was absolutely right in what he did.
  4. It claims to be satire, but Obama zombies rising up to wipe out capitalists sounds like reality to me
  5. Near the bottom it mentions a place in Atlanta where you can.....have to look that up...
  6. Actually I think the US had some success in a few places here in TN
  7. I think he meant how do you tell who the idiot is BEFORE he whips out and waves a loaded gun in your face? Kinda moot to ban the guy who just put a bullet in you.
  8. Ahh....now that I've thought about it, I think the Russian bit was them trying to breed apes with men to create strong, tough, stupid soldiers.
  9. I would love to learn that, but alas, the wife would probably divorce me. PS: Seriously on the phone calls? Real men don't cuss other people out just because they disagree with them. Ah well, morons like to hang with smart people, so call it a compliment
  10. Hate to hear that, but glad to hear she made it out ok. As to her moving, keep an eye out for similar jobs here in TN......might be she would do it if she thinks it was her idea
  11. I think the show Dark Matters did a piece on the monkey head bit, not for sure as I can't remember if it was Russians etc.
  12. Can you state for certainty that the owner wouldn't be held liable? This is America ya know, where a mandate with a fine can magically become a tax in court. More to the point, don't shop at the store you mention. Tell other people about it and let them decide if they want to shop there. But at the end of the day, unless you run a gun store, do you REALLY have any clue what it's like day in and day out? I used to work for a company that handled housing/apt rentals, and the reason they had multiple pages of rules was because people do stupid things. It was like we wanted to rent places, but only to people who acted the way we wanted...gee go figure. We didn't want people who would put plastic bags on the windows to block the sun. Not only does it not look appealing, it can also melt and be a real mess to remove. So yea, I get the idea that a gun store might not like morons pointing guns in their faces. I also get that people like you seem not to realize that I don't know you. So why should I trust you with a firearm? Nobody I don't know personally brings a loaded firearm into my house with a badge and a reason. If I trust you, I could care less if you have a permit etc. If I don't, then I still don't care. Why should a store be any different? If you don't like my rules, don't come to my house.
  13. The dead guy CHOSE to stop and argue. If he had kept driving, none of this would've happened. He made a foolish decision and paid for it with his life. The guy going to jail chose to throw a punch. If he had walked away from the guy who was presumably cussing him out, there wouldn't be a news story. Instead he paid with some bullet holes and probably jail time. Maybe neither of them were "bad" people, but they acted like thugs and so have to live (or not) with the consequences.
  14. Assuming you use propane at home and not natural gas, I would guess it's cheaper to buy in bulk. So buying 200 lbs at one time is likely cheaper than buying ten 20lb. bottles. (We're all electric here so no idea whether you buy 200 lbs or 20, 000 lbs to heat a house but point holds I think).
  15. I would rather spend the $70 bucks on stuff to make some bags with
  16. Crossbow? PS: Sorry for the hijacking, but couldn't resist. Also, thanks for all the tips/info you guys. We let our garden lapse a few years ago, but trying to get motivated for next year. PSS: Since I've already hijacked might as well thank gjohnsiv for the Sq. Ft. gardening tip. Neat concept....
  17. Another thing to consider is 5 years from now when electric rates have gone up 5 times is your payoff time will be shortened whether you buy now or then. And if you plan on staying in the house for the long haul, might as well start with Lester's plan. Sort of dollar cost averaging for solar power
  18. I learned my lesson long ago. Not sure exactly what or how it happened but my dad opened the lid too early and, in short, no permanent damage to his arms etc, and the lid made a nice dent/hole in the ceiling. I imagine there have been actual horror stories, but most were likely the result of UFUs.
  19. Sorry my post was confusing now that I go back and re-read it. I think now I see where I was off. I was reading into what you said and interpreting it to mean what I thought was right. Thanks for clearing that up and I didn't mean to imply you were wrong or had posted false/misleading info, just that I was confused.
  20. I'm confused. I would swear I've seen it said a dozen times in this thread alone (even by you once or twice) that Fed buildings don't have to be posted by Fed law. Or are you saying you can't be prosecuted under TN law unless they are posted?
  21. He's lucky he didn't get shot.
  22. The jury could easily have no one on it with any knowledge of firearms, and if they believe the other side's "expert" more than yours..... Also by your logic, I shouldn't worry about a SHTF scenario here in the US because it's never happened before.... Heck for that matter, I shouldn't bother getting a carry permit because I've never been shot during a "situation". Just stabbed once, so all I really need is a bigger knife.
  23. Whether they do or don't, post the name of the school. Be nice to know who they were regardless.
  24. Have to disagree with you on this. You are partly right, but if you hide the guns away, deny them ANY access, then yes they will be all over them at the first opportunity. Doing as people here are saying, letting them see them goes a long way. For example, when my son was around 6 he attended a military hardware show with a friend of the family. He asked to see the 96F a guy had and the man cleared it and handed it to him. The first thing my son did was check to see if their was a magazine in it and when the guy protested he would never hand a kid a loaded weapon, he was told "I'm just making sure...that's what you're supposed to do" like he was lecturing another kid. Slayed everyone in the vicinity, and earned him a chance to play with the MGs they had on display. Point being, he was told early on the usual, never touch etc. He was also told when he was old enough we would go on supervised trips, and when he was mature (not old, explained the difference many times) enough, he was welcome to get them and go any time he wanted. Mine is yours and all that.
  25. I'm gonna have to go with if I am truly in fear of my life, and being out numbered would definitely do the trick, then as like my dad said, Never start a fight, never hold back in a fight.
