WOULD ANYONE BE INTERESTED IN A GET TOGETHER IN BLOUNT COUNTY?
10-Ring replied to a topic in Events and Gatherings
I might be in, depends on work but I'm in Blount County, keep us posted! -
I have a metal roof it's pretty new but was put on the house before I moved in. I really like it. It seems to be durable. When it's really raining hard you get that rain on the tin roof sound if everything else in the house is quiet. It's not annoying though. You pretty much only hear it when you want to, like when you lay down at night or wake up in the morning. I would recommend a metal roof to anyone in the market.

Looking forward to the meal report. I see the OP is in NC and I'm not sure of the law there. Before anyone over here in TN decides to go robin hunting check regulations. IIRC the robin is classified as a songbird, therefore it is illegal to take in this state.

One Person Shot At Hickory Hollow Mall
10-Ring replied to Volzfan's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Rivergate mall is a gun free zone as well. There was a shooting in the food court over there in '07 or '08. I used to work Loss Prevention for one of the anchors in that mall. It's a scary place. Filled in at HH sometimes as well, that's a really scary place. Of course we weren't allowed to carry but I wouldn't leave the office without my 2-way that was tied to the local PD. -
I think that this legislation is a step in the right direction. However, anyone in the drug scene knows how to defeat a drug test. I once had an employee pass a drug test less than 24 hours after using. When I asked him how he did it he just said "You'd be surprised what you can buy at GNC."

In a perfect world you make a good point. If the employers gave a damn and provided adequate protection for their employes I could go along with that. I used to deliver pizza and there was a company policy that we couldn't carry guns. Yet they were sending us into crappy neighborhoods and we were delivering pizza to crack houses. The company said no guns as a CYA thing. The company could give a damn if I get killed in the line of duty delivering pizza. Pizza delivery people aren't hard to find they could have easily replaced me. So when pizza guys are getting robbed and convenience stores are getting shot up a guy makes himself a sitting duck when he tries to provide for his family and follow the corporate BS rules. If the company really cared they would be placing armed guards in the high risk stores.

Yeah he's an idiot, a moron, lives in his mom's basement, etc. Sheesh guys, yall are a rough crowd. Guy figured out how to make a decent income sitting on his ass, which makes him smarter than I or most any of you. I'm just glad that he isn't collecting government assistance, if he can make an income playing video games he has found a way to make a living doing something he loves, good for him.

You did good. You used the best weapon that you had (situational awareness) and thank God that was all the weapon that you needed. A few years ago I was working asset protection for Walmart and sometimes worked at that store. Although not quite as bad as East Town or the Clinton Highway store, there were a lot of odd goings on at that location. They always had a good team over there so I'm not surprised that they were concerned about your story. Glad you were able to write about it, good job!

Impressive! Nice work!

So if you want to play an interactive 1st person shooter game that is fine, so long as you don't have a gun in your avatar? Brilliant.

I always check local laws when going out of state. Haven't been to NY lately but are you telling me that it is illegal to posses a loaded gun in a hotel room? I understand that you cannot carry out in public but legally a rented room is a temporary residence, so it illegal for New Yorkers to have a firearm in the house as well? Seems silly to me.

If you want to play around with cheap whiskey try this little trick... Get a Brita water filtration pitcher and filter your hooch whiskey. I had a friend that was a big whiskey drinker and he did this, works with other cheap boozes as well. I'm not a big liquor drinker but I tried some of it filtered next to non filtered and the filtered stuff was much less offensive.

I spent the first 20 something years of life in the Nashville and Cookeville areas. Then I moved to East Tennessee. I really like it out here better. It's a whole lot cheaper too. Plus there are tons more recreational opportunities.

He blatantly refuses to read and follow the rules and then whines because he didn't get three chances? Screw him, he was warned once, it's people like that that destroy good forums. I was on one forum that was a great forum about 2-5 years ago and it completely went to crap because of people like that being allowed to constantly post their asshattery. Where do people get this sense of entitlement?

Man shoots 3 kids when they try to steal motorcycle
10-Ring replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Valid concern but gang members tend to be cowards. They are less likely to seek retaliation on someone who is known to be armed and known to not be afraid to kill a gangbanger. But then again if they were smart they wouldn't be gang members. -
Interesting situation this evening

Good job, sounds like for the most part you were adequately prepared. I too am concerned about reaching my carry gun from a driving position while buckled up, which I always am. Seems that the most comfortable and accessible ways for me to carry while standing up and on the move or even sitting down in a chair still make it very difficult to draw while buckled up. On longer trips I'll often place my carry gun or often an gun additional to what I'm wearing in an easy to reach place in the car. Sometimes I use the door pocket, sometimes I just wedge it between the drivers seat and the center console depending on what I'm driving. Yet I am still vulnerable day to day. Sometimes I keep one in the center console I've found that I can get to that rather quickly if needed. Just make sure you don't have a bunch of junk burrying it. I prefer to not use a holster in the console so if you do that be very careful about anything else you may put in there. Pens and the like are a huge nono. -
Looked that up, looks like it is just south of HWY 231, lived about 10 miles downstream from there for many years, that is a beautiful part of the lake up there.

If you don't mind saying, where about on Old Hickory are you hunting? I grew up running all over that lake, I miss it.

I have a batch in the oven right now, I'm going to be really stingy with it though. Seems like everybody wants to come and eat but nobody ever wants to help me process anything.

Ok yall have been trolled. Well sort of. I was trying to make a point and thought I would stir the pot a little as well so I have used some exaggerations such as speed. I was not exaggerating about track time, and I claimed thousands of miles, not hours. Really though I was just trying to make a point that speed limits are arbitrary. They have their place but there are some places and certain times the posted speed limit can be safely exceeded to an extent. Nothing we do is 100% fool proof, there are risks in everything, we just have to carefully calculate those risks and decide if it is worth it to take them. Not too many deer around here but plenty of pigs, wouldn't want to hit one of those at speed for sure. And Robert that is a very nice ride you have there.

Water does indeed work for removing carbon buildup, as does Seafoam. If you are nervous about pouring water into your intake (which is perfectly fine by the way, but don't pour in too much) use transmission fluid. Really anything that will steam up will cause the carbon deposits to break loose. I suck about 8 oz of Seafoam in through my intake vacuum line in my truck every 10,000 miles or so. It's kept it running great.

Agree 100% ethanol is the devil. I'll take my gas without food in it and my food without gas in it please. Several years ago a couple of friends and myself were adding acetone to our gas in very small quantities and it did marginally boost mileage. I remember that it had to be a very exact amount because if you used too much or not enough it would decrease mileage. I remember that it was about a wash after covering the price of the acetone so I quit doing it. One of my friends kept very detailed records and I just emailed him to ask him if he still has that info. I was thinking about it the other day, I have some different vehicles now and was thinking I might try it again and see what happens. I'll report back when I talk to him and post up his findings. EDIT: here is the article...Acetone In Fuel Said to Increase Mileage
-
I've done nothing reckless. When you drive a vehicle with an upgraded suspension and upgraded brakes it really does make the vehicle very much easier to drive. Very true, as some have pointed out, your reaction time is diminished the faster you go, but you can make up for it by driving a car that stops quicker and handles better. I do not neglect my car, it is always in top notch condition, I never run bald tires, I make sure that everything is as it should be. I am also very careful about where I chose to speed. If you catch me on the interstate I am at no time going more than 10 MPH over the speed limit. It is all about knowing where you can get away with it. I also have countless thousands of miles of track time. I never claimed to be the best driver in the world, far from it. As for 2 and 3 times the speed limit there are very remote roads close to where I live where you can see for miles yet the speed limit is 40, paying 100% attention to what I am doing I have no issues whatsoever running between 80-120 through there as long as no other traffic is around. This is also a location miles from any residences or anything else resembling civilization. By no means would I ever drive those speed in a neighborhood or other populated area. So go ahead and talk about laughing at someone else's misfortune, people get all bent out of shape over a little speeding in a remote area, but when you or your loved one is sending a text message and crosses the line and kills someone that will be okay because you were not speeding.

I break speed limits on a daily basis, I don't like them, I don't agree with them, especially when the proper surveys have not been conducted on a road and the government sticks an arbitrary number up as the speed limit. I see no reason to drive a road at 30 MPH when I can safely travel that road at 65MPH. I've had extensive performance driving training and I drive a high performance car. I don't use a telephone when I'm driving, I don't read the newspaper, shave, etc. I drive, when I'm driving I'm 100% focused on the road. I promise you at 3X the posted speed limit I'm safer than someone who is doing the speed limit and is not paying attention because they are playing with their phone or watching a movie in their car. I used radar detectors at one time, yes, they are useful when the officer is using instant on on cars in front of you that is about it. I found it better to be very aware of police cars running radar and to watch cars in front of you seem to brake hard for no apparent reason. For the record I haven absolutely zero accidents or tickets on my record. It's all about knowing when and where you can probably get away with it and when and where you can't and need to slow down.

Mythbuster's seems to be one of the few shows on television that features firearms on a regular basis, and not necessarily in a bad way, not ready to hang them out to dry just yet.
