^+1 A Ruger single six is an immediate family heirloom. One he can show his friends from then on and say, "This was my first gun." Of course Mark IIs and IIIs have come and gone in my safe throughout the years, but my Single six stays. Stay away from the plastic for his first "father to son" gun. When I find a mark III hunter it will have a permanent place in my safe as well.

The reason it's taking so long is because after Springfield received your pistols, they sent them to a secret facility hidden deep in the bowels of NYC. Once there all XDS pistols will be retrofitted to become single shot only. In addition to the grip safety and loaded chamber indicator, all guns will be outfitted with fingerprint scanners, DNA analyzers, and an emergency whistle. With all the new upgrades I think 10-12 wk turn around time is more than fair.

Props to Ted for lending his time, tools, and expertise. That's true community spirit. I highly recommend the S&W shield. My GF carried a LCP exclusively for several years. I picked up a Shield 9 for her a couple months back and she loves it. I believe it's the best CCW 9 for the money right now. No matter what your wife decides on, make sure she carries it. A .22 in the pocket is better than a .45 on the table.

My P95 is one of the first guns I ever bought. Incredibly reliable. Always thoroughly clean and lubricate your firearms before or after each shooting session.

One in the pipe. Full capacity, even the water guns.

I used to work for an electrician that kept several Ruger P series pistols on the dash of his van. They just sat there or near the console for all to see. We always had more than ample space to work, and we were never given the wrong order at a drive thru.

Is there a reason for me to get a M&P Shield if...

If you're just looking for something to slip in your pocket for summer carry, try an LCP. I can't say enough good things about the reliability. It's my go to EDC for hot days, short trips; gas station, quick bite to eat, etc. -

The M&P9c is a "concealment" sized gun if you will. The shield is a "deep concealment" sized gun. It will disappear rather quickly anywhere on your body. If I already had the M&P9c I would not get the shield. Get the full size 9 for night stand / HD and be done with it. I enjoy my .45s, but I'm of the opinion that most people blow it's stopping power out of proportion. 9mm loads these days are not what they once were. Give me 12 124gr Gold dots, over 7 180gr hps any day. -
36. Easy decision

+1^ One of my first guns. One of my cheapest guns. One of the guns I will never sell.

There's a reason Gander always has a good selection of guns and ammo. Take a number and wait to be helped, to our large selection of overpriced guns?!?

Also, Just wanted to quote something.

Your last point is dead on. Don't update your Facebook status before going out with, " Looking to stir up some trouble tonight", or Tweet "Reloaded some hot ones, can't wait to shoot them", at midnight before going clubbing. Social media should be rebranded as "Liability media"

Congratulations on your first gun! Congratulations on wanting to carry! Congratulations on having common sense! Can't go wrong with a Glock, and they won't empty your wallet either.

Good job by you! It didn't hit the ground.

.30 carbine Blackhawk... thats badass. The next one you pass on for $350, please send it my way! Or acquire it, and I shall then bestow a finders fee to you for said gun :)

^ Wow, nothing but good things to say about Ruger CS here. They're moving the CT plant to Raleigh, so maybe we can hand deliver warranty claims to them! Lol

Or three, or four, or five! lol

Can"t say enough good things about the Shield 9. I think S&W hit the mark for concealed carry with this one.

+1^ I would trust a KEL TEC for SD/HD, only about as much as I would trust my cat in a dog fight.

My father in law has a MKII he bought new decades ago. At least five different people, including myself, have used that gun for their CCP test. To my knowledge it's never been cleaned.

I was faced with the same task of arming my girlfriend as well. She's no stranger to big bore handguns, and picked out a XDs .45 a few months after they were released. At least 1 FTF every magazine. I tried 6 different brands of FMJ, and JHP .45 At first i thought it was limp wristing on her part, but the problem persisted with myself and two other experienced shooters. Turns out the firing pin was rubbing inside the channel causing light strikes. Springfield claimed the XDs has to be maintained differently than a regular XD. ie: "run it wet" the amount of gun oil the factory tech advised me to use was overkill in my opinion for any handgun. Your carry/duty weapon should RUN. PERIOD. Using the same maintenance procedures as your other weapons. Springfield was very considerate, and actually purchased the XDs back from me for exactly what I paid new. Don't hesitate to purchase one in either caliber. They're a great manufacturer, and I believe the problems are few and far between. They also stand behind their products. I bought her a M&P 9 shield new, and a J frame airweight used as a replacements for just a little over what the XDs cost me. We've been very happy with the performance of both using the same maintenance practices for all my other guns.

True, but when the zombies come there won't be mechanics to go. So wear them out, I say. lol
