I think this guy is on crack. While I do think there is some sort of possiblity of a Civil War, I think it's very slim. I think a depression is a much, much more likely senerio. I also don't see this country falling under the influence of any other country. I think at the worst we'd become isolationist.

Ok, this is a firearms forum, so what's your all's thinking about a bug out/survival weapon or weapons?

Hey Mark@Sea What about the Enfield and the Mauser? Got an idea what you might want for them? What kind of shape are they in?
-
Watch at www.golsn.com. One usually shows up there from time to time. Seems like the prices are usually in the $400 range. There is a gun show this weekend in Knoxville at the fair grounds. It might be worthe your while as well.

Other than the cool factor, I just don't get it. Seems a sawed off double barrel would be more handy and a whole lot simpler to load.

I worked in Sevierville until three months ago and went in there a lot. They are a helpful bunch there. I hope that it's not true. But with Bass Pro there and the possiblity of other places like that going in, I'd say they are probably between a rock and a hard place. It's a shame because they carry stuff you don't see at Bass Pro and Gander Mountain.

Thanks guys! You've got me hooked now. I'm going to study and then go for my license.

My employer started handing out pink slips this week...

Man, it's bad! I changed jobs back in September, because I saw the writing on the wall where I worked. We went through a lay off in May and the ones that survived got their hours cut back to 32 a week. Then they had another round at the end of July. I survived that one too. I told my boss that I was going to have to start hunting soon. He thought that would be for the best. He ended up helping me get the job I have now. He started at my new firm on Monday! This is the third shop we've worked together at. And our old firm just laid off again right before thanksgiving. Good luck on the job hunt! -
I saw these these tonight. I just rolled my eyes and went on. This guy's an idiot! But it's every where now. Anything that even remotely looks likes military has gone sky high! I can't believe people are still buying at this point.

Leupold is indeed pricy. I've never heard anything but good about them though. However I have a hard time paying more for my scope than my rifle.

I've considered getting my HAM license, but I'm not sure I really have the time to study for it. Is there somewhere on line that you can study for it? I picked up the ETON FR500 for my christmas present. The wife won't let me have it till christmas and I have to act surprised too.

I have a Springfield and I love it. I bought it used from a friend of mine that fell in love with another Springfield. It's had approx. 1500 rounds through it and never jammed or even offered too. It this one here but without the adjustable sights. They are the fixed Novak sights used on the Operator. http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?model=8

I've been thinking about asking for an Emergency Radio for Christmas and I've been looking at the Etons at Radio Shack. Anyone got an opinion on these or know of a better radio? http://www.radioshack.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2032073 I'm primirily for something that picks up the local AM/FM/SW NOAA braodcasts, but I also want it to be handcranked in case the power goes out. The Etons also have a built in flashlight and a cellphone charger.

There is one on today's GOLSN.com. Seems like it's out of McMinnville. The seller has several firearms for sale. If I remember correctly, he wants $125 for it. Here is the link. http://www.golsn.com/listings/outdoor_adventure/firearms/rifles-shotguns/636336.html Excellent price on a SKS as well!

Just a little bit, say two inches. There is a plastic piece around it, so that it looks like a grip extention. Actually, I'm not sure I paid that much more. Their on very cheap on line either.

+1 on the J-frames and other small snubbies!!!

Not sure why you read anything past the S&W 642. That's kinda hard to beat.

Just because your not spending a mint on a 1911 or the next Uber40 doesn't mean you can't be well armed. I saw nothing wrong with any of the pistols you've purchased. The only thing I would have done a little different than you is look for a good, clean, used snubbie. You really can't beat them and there are several good cheaper ones out there, such as Charter Arms (get a new model), Rossi, or Taurus. Among those three, you'll find just about every caliber covered, from .32 to .44 spl. As a matter of fact the next handgun I purchase may well be a little 5 shot .44 spl. Personally, when I feel the need to go armed, I carry a .38 snub most of the time. I think they are the best value out there.

Well, I guess I'm drinking the cool-aid now. I just picked up one at the show for $225 with a NCStar 4 power scope on it. Thought it was a fair price. Picked up a couple of spare 15 round magazines too. Paid to much for them, but who knows if we are going to be able to pick them up in the future. I'll let you all know how it shoots in a weekend or two.

He's a great man and a great coach. I think the program has slipped over the last several years though. I truely hated to see him go, but I think it was time. I hate to admit that my eyes were a little watery at the end of the game. I thought ESPN did a good job with Fulmer's leaving till the end when Erin Andrews tried to start interviewing him on the field. It was time to leave him alone with his players and his wife, so he could enjoy his last victory as a Volunteer.

My presence here will be limited for the days ahead... (Bad news)

I so sorry to hear this. Peace be with you and your wife! -
I'd pick up a copy of Shotgun News next time I was at Kroger. Tons of 7.62X39 in there for sale. Better get while you still can.

I still carry 125 gr HP standard pressure Nyclads in my colt Agent. I understand they are getting hard to find in standard pressure. There was also a rumor at the SHOT Show that Federal is bringing them back into production for us lesser peons. Here is a link to the Buffalo Bore rounds. You all might want to read it. Had some pretty interesting claims. Might be good stuff! http://www.buffalobore.com/ammunition/default.htm#standard38

A guy at work bought a Yugo a couple of weeks back and has recently purchased three of the hi-cap mags. I cautioned against spending to much money on them. I mentioned the fact that the original 10 round fixed worked wonderful. He pissed his money a way. They don't work well at all. I'm like you just another old fart. Why fix something that ain't broke in the first place.

Didn't SOG import some Norinco's that used AK Mags? I think it was the Paratrooper Model. They also had short 16" barrels. You see them around from time to time. I understood them to be of pretty good quality.
