1.   Received my 50mm 1.4 yesterday. Haven't had much opportunity to try it out much, but with what little I played with it I sure did like it! I compared 50mm shots with it to 50mm shots with the kit lens.      Just wanted your input in the durability of the AF on this lens. There are a  lot of opinions on the internet that suggest a hood is a necessity:   https://www.flickr.com/groups/canon_50mm/discuss/72157603775874649/
2. My face when I read the original post:
3. Well, I've heard that soap could theoretically slip-through the waterproof seal. What I've been doing is submerging the watch in a glass of cool water for a bit and then wiping it down with a paper towel. Theoretically hot water can cause condensation on the inside of the watch. I don't get mind as dirty as some, but I don't baby it either. It currently looks brand new!
4. Yep, and the architectural design of most schools is lots and lots of glass. It sure is pretty! Pay it Forward shows how metal detectors can be bypassed.
5. WooHoo! Awesome cleaning kit as well as a Pelican case. I will be able to use both of them! Thanks! I already have plans for both:) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

7. Well, you are correct in that pointing a firearm "down" when at a greater than ground floor can hardly be considered "safe" or "correct", however I have contemplated quite often internally about what the correct thing to do in this scenario. My rule of thumb has always been to keep the thumb and his brothers off the trigger at all times and then only point the firearm in the safest direction. If that means pointing it downward when above ground floor, that's your best bet compared to pointing it horizontally at someone or in the room next to you. Thoughts?
8. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/16/groom-killed-while-helping-motorist-in-snow-on-way-back-from-wedding/?intcmp=trending Hit by not one, not two, but three cars? Tragic.
9. For those with (select) Canon cameras, you have the option of installing this:   http://www.magiclantern.fm   A installed it on a buddy's T3i. It really gives you so many more options. You must be careful in the whole process. Read about it on that website for a while before trying. It really is a neat project.   http://vimeo.com/46188010
10. Think you forgot a link?
11. Cannot make much of a comment regarding the Winchester or the Nikon, but Canon is offering 50% off select refurbished lenses: http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/save-50-percent-when-you-buy-select-refurbished-ef-lenses You can get the 70-300mm IS USM for $259.99. That lens is $649 new!
12. I'd say a kit as well. I personally like having the 18-55mm kit lens. It isn't "bad", it just isn't "great". It is much better than most of your Point-and-Shoot cameras. I went on a trip to the Grand Canyon in 2009. Beforehand I purchase a Canon Rebel XTi from Sears. Me having never had a DSLR and just using the standard 18-55, I took this photos (along with 800 more;) Original Resolution, Unaltered: The XTi was roughly 10.1 megapixel. It is now roughly a 5-6 year old camera. I assure you , the newer ones are even nicer:) I paid close to $800 for the XTi bundle, you can now pickup the T3i bundle I showed you on Amazon for almost half ($437) with the 32GB Sandisk card and the case. Higher quality for hundreds less! The kit lens will be a great thing to play with to get the basics. It is also quite a versatile lens, being open enough for close shots but also being able to zoom in a bit for closer shots. I took two photography courses at Cleveland State. Something like that will teach you the basics. I consider myself a hobbyist, but I would like to get the point where I could be considered a professional. Most people on the street wouldn't understand the following terms: aperture, ISO, shutter, focal length, etc. A class (or a really, really good book) will help you understand those terms and how changing each of them affects your photo. Then all you have to do is practice, practice, practice a lot. That's where I fall short.
13.   Well on that note, I just ordered this:   http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009XVCZ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00009XVCZ&linkCode=as2&tag=55602-20   Cannot wait!
14. This. I think I've made the decision to ensure that all future lenses I purchase are compatible with full frame cameras. I've been reading a lot of this guy's reviews:   http://kenrockwell.com/canon/comparisons/50mm-lenses.htm   He reviews the 2.5 Macro quite remarkably over the 1.4, noting that the 2.5 is sharper at all apertures (well, except for anything over 2.5;)
15.   So it sounds like you have quite a few different lenses. I have:   18-55 IS II 55-250 IS II   I have a budget of about $200-$300. I have been wanting the 50mm 1.4 for a while, but it is also money that I could spend on a different lens. I really think I am wanting to get into prime lenses. Like I've said, I had the 50mm 1.8 but sold it in the package. Any prime lenses that I should checkout? I also have always wanted a macro lens as well, but haven't got around to spending the $500 or more that it would take. Primarily I use my camera for the following:   Still Life Family Events Portraits Landscapes/Nightscapes Occasionally Engagement & Wedding for Friends/Family (I want to do this regularly for pay. I am ok with engagement photography but my confidence level is not comfortable with weddings just yet. That is a lot of pressure.   What should I spend my money on?   Edit:Also, been reading about the 50mm 2.5 Macro, it has caught my attention.
16.   Certainly. I bought the 50mm 1.8 years ago with money was tighter. I threw in a lot of unused accessories when I sold the camera, therefore I have enough for the 1.4. Loved the 1.8 but the 1.4 seems so much better!
17. Personally, I'm thinking of picking up the 50mm 1.4 lens. I had the 50mm 1.8, but sold it yesterday. I've always heard that the 50mm 1.4 is higher build quality and higher image quality. Input anyone?   It looks like TGO sways toward the Canon side:)
18.   If you were referring to the $437 deal, I'm 95% sure it's new. What suggests that it is refurbished?
19. I bought this one this morning (seriously):   http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004J3V90Y/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004J3V90Y&linkCode=as2&tag=55602-20   I bought the same camera about a month ago on Amazon for $579. Right now if you purchase that camera, click on the button "Shop now" in this section:     You will get a case and a 32GB Sandisk card for free. You can also get $150 off select lenses on that page, but it depends on which ones are "in stock" by Amazon. I opted for the 55-250mm IS II lens. Also, whatever you purchase on Amazon for select cameras and lenses, 35 days from your purchase they will credit a 2% promotion to your account. Today my total came to $551.99, so I'll get roughly a $12 promotion in 35 days. I can attest that the T3i is a great camera. I've always used Canon and have been very, very satisfied.   Long story on the purchase, but in a nutshell knew someone that didn't want the hassle of buying a camera on the internet and just bought mine:)
20. Mine will arrive Thursday, but knowing Amazon it may be tomorrow!
21. Professing Surefire nerd myself, but I admit I do wish their offerings for pulsating lights was as good as Streamlight's.    Surefire E2DL Surefire E1B (someday I'll just admit I lost it) Surefire G2 Surefire X300 Ultra (need to pickup another one so I'll have two)   I wish I had a $1000 gift certificate to Surefire, I'd be all set!
22.   WHAT THE HECK WHERE THEY THINKING?!   WHAT THE HECK? WERE THEY THINKING? NO!   Fixed that for you.
23. http://gawker.com/girlfriend-playfully-shoots-kills-boyfriend-1477532654?utm_source=recirculation&utm_medium=recirculation&utm_campaign=fridayAM   Sadly, there are too many people in this world who do not have any respect for firearms for firearm safety.
