  1. So...I am a huge fan of the Kindle Paperwhites. I just "tried" a deal to see if it would combine and so far...I think it did. Their "top" Paperwhite is normally $249.99. Today it is $199.99, which is an ok deal. However, I scored and let me show you how. https://amzn.to/2ln0ioV On that page there is the "Upgrade and save with Trade-in" button. I traded in an old Kindle and they instantly gave me a $30.00 gift card balance on my account. They've provided a free shipping label to ship it back to them. However, that is not where you get the most benefit. You get the most benefit because they apply a promotion to your account giving you 25% off a new Kindle. Guess what? It's combinable with the existing discount. However, it applies to the full purchase price and not the discounted price. My order essentially looks like this: Items: $249.99 -$62.50 (The "Kindle Trade-in Promo" -- 25% of $249.99) -$50.00 (The amount of the original "Prime Day" deal bringing it to $199.99) -$30.00 (They gift card amount given for trading in) You are looking at 107.49 plus tax for a $249.99 Kindle Paperwhite 32GB with Cellular. However, I elected not to use the $30.00 Gift Card. Why? Because the amount for a Kindle charged to an Amazon Rewards Chase card gives 25% cash back today. That should be the amount charged. For me personally, they charged $150.90, so I should get $37.72 cash back to my credit card. And I have a $30.00 gift card balance for any other purchase. So...in reality...I got the Paperwhite for $69.77.
  2. Oh...priceless Using his hand-drawing of the new rifle, he placed an advertisement in Shotgun News and soon sold-out the first batch. Barrett was contacted by the CIA who purchased a number of rifles for the Afghan Mujahideen for use in their war against the Soviet Union. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnie_Barrett
  3. I looked up a picture just to see what he looks like. Unless he was wearing a company shirt that said "Ronnie Barret - Owner" I doubt I'd pic him out of a crowd. With that being said...that's a sweet pin. That's...about all I could afford with Barrett's name attached to it.
  4. I've had a few of those over the years...yes they are awesome.
  5. Lifestraw: $9.89 on 7/15/2019 https://amzn.to/2luoiXs The Amazon Prime Visa card will give you 15% back on that specific item.
  6. I...suddenly know the feeling. I wasted two of the fittings just having fun and showing my Wife how it works. Let her put a fitting together.
  7. Finally tackled this project today. I was able to remove the nut from the right side (in the photos) of that PRV, but was not able to loosen the threads on the connection on the left. I ended up cutting the ProPEX, threaded in the new PRV, and then used my handy dandy new Milwaukee tool to fit the new fitting. So far so good.
  8. I am and will always be a fan of Ares Gear: https://www.aresgear.com/ Their Aegis Enhanced is what I've used for several years now and the Ranger for several years before that. Doesn't look "traditional", but performs very well.
  9. Ok. We missed the Tisas thread by about this much:
  10. https://aimsurplus.com/firearms/curio-and-relic/?narrow=[["Caliber"%2C"7.62x39"]]&disable_semantics=1 I had basically a LNIB Norinco that I had $250 or $300 in. I know people older than me were able to pick these up for under $100, but even at $300 I wish I had kept it. It was an amazing rifle/piece of history. I wish I had never sold it.
  11. Milwaukee. Mans yeah, I have noticed that too about the inside diameter.
  12. Haha. Yeah, so did I.
  13. Well that's sad. https://thetakeout.com/kentucky-bourbon-distillery-fire-imperils-barrels-1827104450
  14. Makes sense. Based on my very limited research (starting today), it seems that the expansion fittings are theoretically the absolute best in terms of longevity and general ability to stay leakproof. Since I'm only going it for myself, with the number one goal generally being reliability and dependability of the fittings, do you agree that if I'm willing to spend the ~$200 or so on the Milwaukee expansion tool, the expansion fittings are likely my best overall bet? I am aware that it takes PEX-A. Is there any reason you can think of I'd be better off not using PEX-A and sticking with "regular PEX" and the crimp fittings?
  15. Any specific reason you went for copper crimp over expansion? And you agree both of those are probably much better than the Sharkbite fittings?
  16. I think I came to the same conclusion as you did earlier today after watching a lot of expansion fitting videos. I think I'll give that a try, but I think I'll go ahead and maybe purchase the tool and start tackling some projects around here. My fear is taking that loose and for whatever reason not being able to get it back together without a the tool (replacement PRV too short/long, etc.
  17. I don't want to get into too many details, but essentially the plumber the contractor used in the remodel before we purchased was horrible. We have generally PVC, but I'd like to replace it all with PEX as I'd feel better about it long term. From my research, those expansion connections are strong. I watched a YouTube video showing the pipe itself bursting before the fitting would blow-off. So I'm considering it an investment project of "doing things right" instead of "fast".
  18. I was about to swap out my pressure reducing valve but then realized that although it has a brass nut on one end, the other end is essentially a ProPex connection. Photos below: In the above photo, you can see a brass fitting attached to a threaded piece of copper that connects to an (unseen) cut-off valve that in turn connects to more Pex. Going left out of the valve you can see one of the "ProPex" expansion type fittings. I've read and through experience seen that the "Sharkbite" fittings are not really all that great and will probably leak over time. I've been convinced that these "ProPex" fittings are indeed the way to go. I'm super ready to just purchase the Milwaukee 1" Propex Expansion tool. If you look, you can can get the fittings for about $0.39 each. Youtube videos make it generally look quite easy. I say all of this to say, I think I'd like to purchase that tool and replace all the piping in my house. Hopefully I can do what I can, in sections, over the next few months. However, does anyone with experience have any necessary input on either what to do or not do?
  19. Exactly. It’s more so them not caring what members want, while at the same time convincing members to send the NRA money to support their extravagant lifestyle so they can recommend bump stocks be reviewed for legal status.
  20. I suddenly realized that I really need whatever it is that she's holding.
  21. I do realize the article I linked to is very biased, but I think the consensus is that those facts are generally true.
  22. What is absolutely the most frustrating to me is that statistics can easily prove that law abiding citizens that own suppressors have an insanely low crime rate. The facts literally disprove the narrative. https://freebeacon.com/issues/atf-despite-nearly-1-3-million-silencers-united-states-rarely-used-crimes/ 1.3 million silencers. 44 suppressor related crimes per year over the last decade. However, the article doesn't suggest that those 44 suppressor related crimes were of the 1.3 million legal suppressors. It actually suggests the contrary with the following: Of those 44 crimes per year, only 6 involved defendants with prior felony convictions. I'm fairly certain that a defendant with a prior felony conviction could not legally possess a suppressor or firearm. So, that suggests of the "44 crimes", some (at minimum, 6) were illegal suppressors in some form or fashion! So...1.3 million legal suppressors...44 crimes per year "legal and not legal suppressors" and now suddenly it is an epidemic. It makes me sick just listening to the rhetoric because it is such a lie. Yes, people die at the hands of handguns and semi-automatic rifles, etc. I can at least understand why those types of weapons are opposed by many. Of course I still oppose any restrictions on them. But opposing legal suppressor ownership is as backwards as could be seeing as how the people who go through the process for obtaining a legal suppressor are about as standup as can be.
  23. I say let them go. I wish all the people who have supported the NRA over the years would "switch" to either the GOA or SAF, but I know that will not happen. Truthfully, the only thing that saddens me is that the left will consider it a huge victory and even take credit for the "failure of the NRA". Really though, it looks like the NRA has nobody to blame but themselves.
  24. Just going to leave this here. https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2017/08/how-to-fake-an-alien-mummy/535251/
