  1. This is where I'm at. I don't think the resturant should ask them to leave, but what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Plenty of beat cops only do the bare minimum to qualify with a handgun, and I'm guessing for Parole and corrections officers it's not stressed anywhere near as much. So why does a person carrying a badge have a right to carry a firearm there, but I can't. I've done my time on the two way range and have plenty of time and training behind both a pistol and a long gun. I guess it's a pointless argument anyways, I'm not spending money anywhere that refuses my right to carry a firearm. Sent from behind the anvil
  2. This is one of the big reasons I look more at a home steadiness view than a bug out view. Learning and living a life style where these conditions can be dealt with a is a life.long experince. That's why I farm with horses, blacksmith with limited power tools, and listen when my old man teaches me how to build a log cabin, plant by the signs, read the weather, can vegetables, kill and cure meat and all the other skills lost over time. It can be done, but most people will be lost without their smartphone and a flushing toliet. Sent from behind the anvil
  3. I'll check the rear ends. Metal plug is D44 if I remeber right. I'll go over the cooling system closely I try to do that any time I look at a 4x4. Detailer usually miss the stuff caked under it unless they are extremely detailed in their work. I used to see a 4x4 as a toy when I was in high school, but since I've gotten older a 4x4 has become a necessity for work in bad weather. Yeah jeeps seem to have a lot in common with motorcycles in that regard. They all have quirks. Traveling isn't really feasible due to my job schedule (6 12's, and Sunday more often than not) and I need to go through a dealer so I can trade my truck in for a down payment. I know some here won't buy a vehicle without paying cash, but my current situation doesn't allow me to get a vehicle without financing, and I would be better off trading the Dodge for what I can get and using it as a down payment rather than dealing with the hassle of selling it pvt party and using a cash down payment. We had a rough streak the last few years and I lost my good credit due to some mistakes on my part, so we are now in the rebuilding stage. Sent from behind the anvil
  4. So I'm going to look at a couple of jeeps tomorrow. I've owned one jeep, a 76 Cherokee on 35's when I was in high school but that's the limit of my Jeep knowledge and they have changed a lot since the days of 401 AMC motors and quadratrac transfer cases. I'm fairly mechanical and have worked on lots of cars, I just need to know if there are specific things to look for. The two I am going to look at are a 2000 Sahara, 5 speed, 4.0 liter, small lift, bigger tires, 132k miles. The other is a 2003 X wrangler,,5 speed, 4.0 liter, small lift, 33" tires, 122k miles. Anything specific to Jeeps I need to be on the lookout for mechanically? I'm looking to replace my completely worn out 2000 Dodge Dakota 4x4 so they will be used as daily drivers anytime I'm not on the motorcycle, and due to the nature of my job and the attendance policy, being able to travel to work in bad weather is a must. We were required to come in even in the worst of the ice storms in February, the plant never closed. So something capable and dependable are at the top of the list. Sent from behind the anvil
  5. Wells full of water. Renewable food in the form of a garden, game, hogs, chickens, goats and cattle. Draft animals to farm and for transport. Blacksmith shop for repair work and barter material. Heavily built log cabins miles away from population centers that would take one hell of a pounding. Resourceful family full of survivors at my back. I'll take my chances at the fort. I was born and raised on that land, just like my daddy and his daddy, and back past the civil war. Seems like just as good a place to die as any if it comes to that. Sent from behind the anvil
  6. I've seen one and my dad has seen 3 or 4. My Grandpa cal ways claimed to have killed on coon hunting as a teenager back around 1915. He wasn't the kind to exaggerate and my dad isn't either. Dad saw a couple of them when cutting snow late at night, and at least one coon hunting. They drift through from time to time, especially in the unpopulated areas like New River where I grew up. 7. Yeah the colt has a hammer when I blow the picture up. Also I think the S&W is a model 36 not a model 38. I'd love to have a lil snub nosed like that for carry. Sent from behind the anvil
  8. Don't sell them. They make fantastic plastic semi's everyday but you can never buy your dad's guns back. Even if you bought the same model it'll lack the history. Sent from behind the anvil
  9. So I'm posting this just to see if any TGOERS might have a lead. Right now I work at Aisin Automotive casting in the machining department. I've been here roughly a year and I am starting to look for other postions. My reasoning is simple. We work to much. I work 12 hour shifts, and have worked 7 days a week since labor day, and worked it for several weeks before that. I can't continue doing 80 hour work weeks. I work 500 pm to 500 am and only get to spend 15-20 min a day with my wife. I haven't seen my family (mom and dad) in weeks. I have no chance of any social life, seeing friends or anything else. So I'm putting out my feelers to see if anything is open. I'm a hard worker, Marine Corps veteran, and have a lot of technical skills on hand. I was ASE certified in several areas before letting them expire, I was a helicopter mechanic in the Marine Corps, I can do woodwork, blacksmithing, I'm a very novice welder, I can do construction including some concrete and laboring for block and brick. So if anyone has an opening that may pay enough to stay up with my bills and would allow me to have a few days off a month then let me know. Thanks Sent from behind the anvil
  10. If he's gonna stand me up and ask, he better ask quick. Like was mentioned by someone else, I don't play lamb to slaughter very well. I may well die, but even if I'm unarmed I still have every intention of cramming my pocket knife or a pen or pencil or my thumb through your eye and into your brain and we can go meet God together. It's good to stand strong in faith, and I honestly don't know if I would say yes, but I'm probably gonna be thinking more of hurting him then trying to figure out the answer that nut job wants. I have no issue dying as long as I try and hopefully succed in taking that sonofabitch with me. I know where I stand with my God. Sent from behind the anvil
  11. Fighting Sheep Dog is the cheapest I know of local to knoxville. If they haven't changed its $20 total. $10 for TICS and $10 for the shop. And they are a vendor here Sent from behind the anvil
  12. Yes they are Sent from the backwoods

  14. Thanks for all the suggestions. I will define try look in to building my own, my biggest issue is that time is at a large premium right now due to my job working an average of 80 hours a week, so sometimes it's easier to buy it than build it. I will look in to reflux stills and everyone's suggestions. The reason I said it was for fuel, is because making distilled spirits for consumption is illegal without an expensive and hard to obtain federal license, where as a fuel license is free. Most of my "fuel" would get cut down to 100 proof and would probably do a lot of apple flavored fuel. Since my lawn mower likes apples, you know. One of my big reasons for a pot style still is the heritage behind it. I'm not looking to make huge runs, just being able to do it the old fashioned way is interesting to me. I think it's definitely a valuable commodity for trade in a shtf situation, and usually alchol consumption goes up when times get hard. I have heard of doing sweet feed raoul, I'll look into that as well. Again thanks everybody. Dats82 I'll pm you and pick your brain once I get my questions in order. Sent from the backwoods
  15. Are there any home distillers here? I've been giving some thought to setting up a small 10 gallon setup, after securing the appropriate and free Federal Fuel Alchol permit of course. I would like to do a 10 gallon copper setup using a traditional pot still with a thump keg. I have found the still I like, now I'd just like to talk to someone who has distilled to find out about heat sources (propane, and wood if shtf) and other information. This is the still I'm looking at http://www.hillbillystills.com/product/traditional-moonshine-still-sizes/ Disclaimer I have no intentions of performing illegal activities by distilling drinkable alchol. 16. Tennessee football is the laughing stock of the SEC and will soon be relegated to the same class as other small time teams. They continue to blow the game in the 4th quarter with regularity. It's the same every fall. Weather gets crispy, people have camp fires, and Tennessee starts hunting a new savior/coach. Sent from the backwoods
  17. Also, I need to say props to the Knox County PD and the TDOT truck driver. Two Knox County sheriff's blew by, but a TDOT truck stopped and then a KPD stopped and blocked traffic so I could push it to the right shoulder with much more room and safety. That left shoulder is tiny. Sent from the backwoods
  18. I made it home safely. Neighbor grabbed me with a trailer. I might have limped it, but not in bumper to bumper traffic. I can shift without a clutch but idling in traffic is to hard on the trans. Glad everyone had a good day. Yeah that was me in the Leathernecks cut lionsfan. Funny how small the world is ain't it. Nothing anybody could have really done to help, but it's always nice when people stop and ask. As for a roadside repair, I considered bubblegum and some melted asphalt but didn't wanna use all my skills lol Sent from the backwoods
  19. 1. 1 guy out of 2 dozen plus has stopped. I've been passed by lots of cruisers and HOG guys, but a guy on a Motto Guzzi adventure bike stopped to see what was wrong, has extra gas, and Thanked me for my service before leaving. The brotherhood isn't dead, but it's much smaller. My club brothers offered to drop what they were doing and drive from McMinnville to come get me, and the one I'm meeting in Pigeon FORGE rode down just to sit on the side of the road with me. Sent from the backwoods
  20. So how is everyone else's day going? Mine was good until now. I took the night off to meet a club brother for dinner in Pigeon forge, about 500 yds before the west hills exit my hydraulic clutch line popped leaving me on the side of I 40 waiting on my neighbor to bring a trailer. So how is everyone else since I've got plenty of time to post lol Sent from the backwoods

    Ginseng

Domestic ginseng doesn't bring anywhere near as much money and it takes years to grow to any size. Asian culture doesn't like domestic ginseng due to its lack of potency, and they can normally tell if it was domestic or wild. Sent from the backwoods
  22. I had friends who played a long time ago. My basic understanding is that these caches are hidden all over the world and there are websites were you look up GPS coordinates. Then people try to find them and I think they leave a small item there. There isn't anyway on earth I'm putting coordinates and an open invatation treasure hunt on my land. As far as big knives, it's legal to carry any knife in Tennessee now, but not sure how that would work out on private land. I'm with the above, I'd don't think the game is fun if it ends with 911 and a rifle. I'd suggest removing the caches before somebody uses it as an excuse to case your place out. 23. I'm in. We will need a schedule of who has it on each weekend for shared ownership. Sent from the backwoods
  24. What price range are you looking for? There are some custom makers here, depending on the style you want. Gran Torino makes some gorgeous stuff, as does SYBO and bigbabysweets. I do some custom work as well. As far as production goes, an Esee 5 would be excellent. Kabar and buck also make good knives for the money. Sent from the backwoods
  25. Bojangles all the way. There dirty rice is amazing and I like their chicken. Popeyes is ok sometimes and KFC sucks Sent from the backwoods
