Went today to check this one out. Few vendors, probably 20-25 tables, not a lot of inventory there. Too bad, as I was hoping this one would have a better turnout.

Went to the gun show at union City today, saw 500 rd bricks of Remington 22lr marked at $130, strangely he seemed to have several in stock...

That's apparently the new normal time in this part of the world, as several others have reported the same.

What are your goals for the rifle? A collector would be concerned with arsenals, rarity, age, etc., for a shooter none of those matter. Like others have posted, condition of the wood, metal finish, rifling and crown are far more important than markings. I'll have to respectfully disagree with a couple of statements though, first don't concern yourself with "hex" vs. "round" receivers if you are looking for a good shooter. The cosmetic differences have no correlation to performance, any "corner-cutting" that might have occurred during wartime production has long ago been remedied as these rifles have been through numerous refurbishment processes, the bad ones were cannibalized for parts many years ago. Second, don't automatically reject a counterbored rifle, most were done to eliminate crown erosion due to nicks from improper cleaning techniques. The armorers who took the time to counterbore the rifles usually chose ones that had good bores but bad crowns, they are quite often better shooters than non-bored examples. Checking headspace and firing pin protrusion is always a good idea on any surplus rifle prior to firing it, a thorough cleaning is also a necessity. "Sticky bolt syndrome" is almost always the result of cosmoline in the chamber, investigate how to properly clean the bore and chamber and you should be good to go. If you are looking to start a collection, a different set of criteria apply. Check out the info available at 7.62x54r.net (especially the forums section), mosinnagant.net, and the Russian section at surplusrifles.com for a start. Terence Lapin's book "The Mosin Nagant Rifle" is another good source. Eventually you will find that serious collectors aren't very interested in common 91/30 refurbs, therefore most of the rifles commonly available in gunstores now aren't very collectible (there's always that apocryphal story of the 1907 carbine found on the shelf at the LGS for $100, so we do continue checking the racks in hope!).

Just saw on another forum that it was 12k mags in 80 minutes. The buying frenzy continues...
-
And gone. Not sure how many total they had, but I know they showed 7000 of the non-windowed mags in stock when they ad went up. Something over 10000 total in 80 minutes.

In the world of politics, this is a disqualifying characteristic. -

Got one about an hour ago from AIM surplus, had a limit of 1 or I would have ordered more.

In a conversation with David (dlm) in the chatroom this week, he brought up an interesting point. Apparently Russia has recently relaxed some of their gun restrictions on private possession of firearms, making ownership of .22 rifles easier. The Russians are buying up huge amounts of the available .22 ammunition, as it sells for much more there than here, thus offering increased profit potential for manufacturers. If true (and David is certainly more an expert in this subject than I), the competition for available supplies will remain high for a very long period of time.

Some upcoming academic research on gun violence - good news?
No_0ne replied to Under-No-Pretext's topic in General Chat
Some upcoming academic research on gun violence - good news? I'm afraid you are working on a false premise - that anything in the current assault on gun right is driven by data, logic or facts in general. The anti-gun movement's agenda is ideologically driven, and the proponents of that movement will ignore any new research in the same way as they have dismissed previous attempts to interject actual facts into the debate. -
As long as you are not converting it to a SBR or adding a silencer you are good to go. Permanent alterations will negate its C&R status but I'm sure you're not interested in that anyway. If you are considering the slip-on brakes which mount in place of a bayonet, save your money. The only viable option is to have a brake pinned, soldered or welded on. Be advised, most people who have tried this have been less than satisfied with the results. If recoil reduction is your goal, the limbsaver type buttpads are a better and cheaper alternative.

Not a problem, I'm in no real hurry, just glad to finally catch one actually obtainable...

Yep, added and checked out, CC accepted and order confirmation sent to my email address. I know what you mean, these have been showing up as "in stock" when they really weren't, but after reading the previous posts about them "popping up" I decided to give it a try...

Mystery Company Coming To Mt. Pleasant... MagPul?
No_0ne replied to Peace's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Magpul already subcontracts a huge percentage of their manufacturing to independent companies with the capability of injection-molding polymer parts. Some of these companies will leave Colorado with Magpul. I'm betting that at least part of those companies have factories already in place elsewhere, some will relocate to various locations across the US, and that Magpul will expand their retinue of subcontractors to other businesses which are up and running now. In this scenario, Magpul relocates its corporate headquarters in one area, maybe opening up a central distribution hub, and the actual product is sourced throughout existing plants. Thus no centralized manufacturing facility is needed, and Magpul can expand (or contract) its capabilities as necessary to meet demand. Unfortunately, this would also mean no "bonanza" of new jobs for whatever state Magpul relocates to.
