Where do you live?

Welcome from another damned Yankee. This one from Cincinnati. I came here 4 years ago, spent $300 grand and stayed. Wouldn't trade that decision for anything. 

Why do we have to be the guardians of the world? With what it would cost to fire off one missile we could feed the people right here in Tennessee that don't have near enough to eat. The billions of dollars we send to other countries to feed their people could feed all the people in this country that are starving. Shouldn't we take care of our own first?

I've read about the excise tax that hasn't changed change since 1935. How about the tax the ATF puts on guns? How about the one the state department puts on all guns and things associated with guns? Like ammo, powder, primers, bullets, and a bunch of other stuff. I talked to the people from Brownell's. They have to have a license for a bunch of difference stuff. Each one cost bucks. Guess who ends up paying the bill? Back door gun control??? NAAAAH!!

Humm, let's see, if my house is getting broken into, and I'm home in bed, I grab my trusty gun with flash light on it and go after the burglar. What do you thing that dude is going to line up his sights on? Probably the same kind of light you're going to line up your sights on. If I'm going to use a flash light it's going to be separate from the gun. I'm going to be laying on my belly on the floor in the bedroom with the flash light an arms reach over my head. The BG is going to be shooting at the flash light while I'm going to be shooting at the flash from his gun.   

One of the questions on the FFL application is, Will you be selling at gunshows. Not a quote but very close. FFLs that sell out of state must have a store in that state, and have it on their license. So if I have a FFL in say, Kentucky, I can walk across the isle and transfer the handgun to Joe who has a FFL in Ky. and Tn., who does the paper chase through Tn, "for a nominal fee". So Joe enters in his book, as inventory, that he received a handgun from Clem's Gun shop in Ky. Then he does the paperwork through Tn. to Uncle Sam. Uncle Sam is happy because he knows where the gun is when he wants it. Tn. is happy because they made bucks on the deal. The Tn. dealer is happy because he made bucks for filling out two lines on his books and and having you fill out a 4473 form, giving you a receipt, and the original dealer is happy because he made bucks on the deal. The only one that is NOT happy is you. Because all those bucks came out of your pocket.

I've bought a handgun out of state, at a gun show. Either the dealer your are buying it from or another dealer at the show has to have a Tennessee FFL. They usually get an extra $25 from you but it takes care of the paper chase. Oh yea, I almost forgot the cut the governor gets. has to be added in there too. It don't hurt to ask.

This thread is drifting way off subject, but for a good reason. The bleeding heart liberals get elected in this country because granny good bar believes that they are doing the right thing when they slap junior on the wrist when he takes a potshot at a LEO. The mindset needs to come away from poor Jonny and go to the good of the community. If we run out of room in the jails, stack them 4 deep in the cells. If the ACLU doesn't like it we can keep the overflow at their house.   Gangs use street drugs and other crimes to support themselves. Then they use fear and intimidation to keep control. They know that they are going to get a slap on the wrist if they get convicted.    OK, I'm done with my rant for the day. I'm going to make sure my doors are locked and check my guns and see if they are loaded.

Sounds like I'm not the only one that's fed up with crime. The police do their best to keep the streets safe while their bosses do their best to get reelected. I'd rather not carry that lump under that roll of fat on my right side. But either have to or stay home. Good going NYPD. You saved the tax payers another bundle of bucks.

I don't care if he was sky blue pink with purple spots. If we had a little less political correctness and a little more police protection, I think our streets would be a little safer.

There is a KOA campgrounds in Pidgin Forge on the way to Dollywood that we stayed at. Very clean, swimming pool, whirlpool. They also have cabins. You would need to call and reserve on well in advance.

It's bugging me that you are considering taking a baby tent camping. I think I'd rent a chalet in the Cades Cove area. Great place for wildlife and scenery  

Open water certified since 1977. Dove in the Cayman Islands, Chrystal River with the manatees, Florida Keys, and Mexico. Most fun I ever had was sitting cross legged in the sand 85' down feeding the fish squid. You'd be surprised how quickly you can make friends with a hand full of squid.

I like Ruger products. If for no other reason, they are an all American made product. Using American workers to put out an American product. Besides, they're stainless, and shiny, and being a packrat I love shiny stuff. I would like to buy a 1911 for single stack division shooting in practical pistol matches. I have never read any comments about Ruger's SR 1911 here. Does anybody have one? Do you have any problems with it?

I wonder if they had any choice in the mater. The pull down powder from the 30 carbine worked great for magnum loads in 357 and 44 mag. The bullets worked fine for USPSA 3 gun. Military brass if the finest made. Too bad.

Used to be able to get components from a bunch of suppliers in the shotgun news. The military said that they weren't going to let contractors have the out of date ammo anymore. The "you know what" hit the fan and they said they'd start doing it again. Well, if they did, I don't see it. Humm! me thinks NATO has their god like paws in this. Anybody know anything about this? 

Just thought I'd add a couple of tricks that I do to this thread. When I cast I do it outside. I use a 5 gallon bucket of water with a parts strainer in it. {Available at most parts stores}. It just fits inside the bucket and I only have to empty it every 300 bullets or so. After the bullets dry I size and lube my bullets and drop them into a pan just under the luber/sizer. After I have a couple of hundred bullets in the pan I put a 1/4 teaspoon of motor mica [Midway] in the pan and roll them around. It's neutral burning rate, extra lubricating value, and stops the lubed bullets from being sticky, make it a great last step.

A 1911 is like a M-16/AR-15, they like to be wet to work. Plenty of oil makes for a good day. I have been using synthetic grease from the auto parts store on al my guns for years. They just don't give me trouble. I use shock buffs on all my 1911"s. So I cut 1 1/2 loops off the recoil spring, when I replace them. 

My wife works in a hospital. Many of the kits that the doctors use have many 2x2's and 4x4's in them that are not used in whatever procedure they are doing. Not touched and never contaminated she brings them home for me instead of throwing them away. 1/2 of a 2x2 works great for 30 cal. barrels and the 4x4's work great for shotgun barrels and general wipe down. Again, these are unused, uncontaminated gauze pads that were in a sterile procedure kit that would have been thrown away, BTW, I no longer use patches to clean my barrels since I discovered bore snake. I pull that turkey through the barrel 3-4 times and it's cleaner than a whistle.

I agree completely. If they can't win with facts they will win with volume. They are rude and interrupt any time they can. I saw that happening in the presidential debates. Republicans try to be polite and wait their turn. Democrats twist the truth, interrupt and call their opponent a liar every chance they get. It's time that the Republicans quit being so polite, stand up on their hind legs,  and win a race once in a while.

Truth is something that is either twisted or nonexistent with the anti gun people. Maybe if we did a little of the kind of politics like they do, they'd stop this BS.     The NRA used to be an organization that was respected and listened to by public figures. Now they make deals and bow down to these people. It's time that we stand up on our hind legs and let these people know that what they are doing is not exceptable.
