Thanks for the info Ishel. The S&W has a flash hider that's also a comp. If I go with the Ruger, that's one thing I know I'll have to change.

I sold a couple of safe queens and now I'm in the market for an AR in 308. I got a look at the S&W at the last gun show and it looks good. Looked at the SR 762 on Ruger's site. Both look good. Which one would you get and why?

Do you think $1/# would last long in the auction?

I've been trying to find once fired 243 Win brass without much luck. I read that it was formed from 308/30-06 brass, so I tried running some of the 308 that I've got coming out of my ears through the 243 resize die. It looks good and when I measured the dimensions that I got from Siearra's  manual and they are all a bit under. Has anyone done this before? Do I still need to get an outside neck turning tool? Fire form?

You've got to decide if you want to put the metal back where it belongs or take it away. I sprung the bucks for a Dillon swaging tool a while back. It was expensive but speeds up the process. Before that I had  a RCBS swagger tool. It worked fine but slower than the Dillon. Price was a lot better too. Only thing is that you.ve got to drag out the 'ol single station press.

REALLY!! The way I look at it, he represents Academy. If Academy wants to be a wholesale outlet they need to limit who they sell to [those with retail tax permits]. If they want to stay a retailer they need to be fair to all their customers. I remember Midway and their ridicules shipping and handling fees every time I am in the market for something. Then I go somewhere else. Academy is now on my list.

I'd be looking at the tapered crimp die. If you're crimping too much it will distort the bullet. That will do it every time.

Y'all are under the misguided opinion that people want to get that close to a threat. If I want to repel someone from close in, I'll quit wearing deodorant.

+1 on the RCBS stuck case remover. It just makes it too easy to get the case out of the die.

Yes, always start reloading with a pistol caliber. Reloading isn't hard to do. But you need to learn the basics first. You will have to trim bottleneck cases once in a while when you load them. They also need to be lubed. Too much will make dents in your cases. Too little will get cases stuck in the resize die. Get the basics down first.   Most 7.62x39 have berdan primers. You don't want to tackle that one as a beginner. And you certainly wouldn't tackle it as an experienced reloader. That is unless you have a lot of time on your hands and nothing better to do like income tax, weed the flower garden, etc.      

Don't get me wrong, I like Ruger guns. That being said I got a chance to look at them at the SHOT show. It was a good looking gun but I wouldn't buy one for myself because the forend was flimsy. Just gripping it to shoot would make it touch the sides of the barrel. That's got to effect accuracy. I'm looking more toward Savage now. I think I will get more bang for my buck in a hunting rifle.

My wife doesn't like semi auto for carry because she doesn't have the strength in her hands to rack the slide. she still carries. But a revolver.   Bought a slideracker at the SHOT show that will help a lot of ladies in the same predicament. It takes the place of the slide cover plate on Glocks. It takes 5 minutes to slide the original off and slide this one on. I looked in Lenny Magill's glock store and didn't find them. I'm looking at the package that the one I bought came in. The part number is T1349BK C. It must be to new to be up yet.   I put it on a glock 26 that she couldn't rack the slide on before and she did it with ease. Don't know where this is going with her, but less recoil and 10 shots instead of 5 are on my side.

I've heard second and third hand that the feds ordered billions of rounds and are storing them in warehouses to keep them out of our hands and cause an artificial shortage that would bring on radical price hikes and therefore make a lot of people loose interest in shooting.   Here again this was second and third hand.  I don't put anything past the bleeding heart liberals that we have in power now but I didn't want my galloping paranoia to get the best of me either. 

I agree with you completely. When Midway and Brownell's started charging ridicules shipping and handling charges I stopped ordering from them. To date I haven't spent a dime with either one of them. This will hold true with those that want to put their kids through school with the profit of one sale. I have heard comments from dealers that want you to believe it's the American way. The most efficient heat pump is the ground source heat pump. But to put it in an existing home is cost prohibitive. Because the piping is put well below the frost line outdoor temperature isn't a factor. But you do still have to have auxiliary heat for emergencies   

I'm not buying the hording reason for the 22 shortage. Yea, there are a few low lifes out there that are parked at the wallyworld sports counter at the right time to buy up what they can and sell it for 3-4 times what they bought it for. But I don't think that's the reason for the shortage. I remember seeing a skid of bricks at a store for cheap. I can't believe that manufactures can't produce enough to satisfy our needs.

I'm not talking about violent revolution. It's not going to happen tomorrow. Our country signed the UN document taking guns away from civilians. They will do it a little at a time. But rest assured they will do it if we don't stop them. Here comes one of my long short stories. When my oldest boy was in the 4th grade, [he's 41 now] he came home from school as usual but quietly went right to his room. His usual routine was to empty the refrigerator, ware out the dog chasing him around the back yard, and pick at least 2 fights with his younger brother before dinner. finely after calling him half a dozen times he came to dinner. He was quietly picking at his food when I asked him if he felt OK. His response was " Daddy, are you a bad man?" Naturally I choked on my last bite and asked him why he asked such a question. He responded that "His teacher said that anybody that owned a gun was bad. Needless to say I lost a days work the next day. I went to his school and called his teacher out of the classroom and asked her if she had said that. She said that she had and that is was on the school curriculum for the 4th grade, and she had nothing to do with it except do what she was told. With my blood pressure creeping up I went to the principal with the same question. He told me that he had nothing to do with the decision, that it came from the school board. I confronted the board at their next meeting and was told that it came from the state board. I contacted someone from that board and was told that someone would be getting back to me in a day or two. Needless to say they never got back to me, even after half a dozen calls. Neither the local or the major newspapers had any interest in what was going on. Note all newspapers in Cincinnati are liberal. The biggest paper was owned by Gannett. One of the most anti gun medias we have. If you haven't already guessed where I'm going with this, our kids were, and are being brainwashed against guns. My sons have been enjoying the shooting sports because I have taught them how to.
