  1. echoing what has been said: Quality control on Rossi's , Taurus, even Charter arms is hit or miss. Better to buy a used Ruger or Smith and be done with it. IMHO
  2.  I've had both the Ruger SR1911 and the R1 and found them both great and reliable shooters. If you can get the R1 basic model in stainless it has one of the best stainless finishes I have seen on any gun including S&W revolvers, Sigs..etc. I like the front checkering on the R1 carry version as well. That said I would also check out a Springfield Loaded and see how you like it. In that price range you can't go wrong. Good Luck!

  4. Congratulations!   Remember : Great dads get promoted to grandpa.
  5. Always like the high power and that pistol is a beauty! I like the two tone look and keeping the original grips really sets it apart. Very well done. Congrats!
  6. I have a buddy back in Arizona who bought one from J&G Sales and he loved it. It was in 9MM. Really well made , reliable and accurate. I would jump on it if the price was right. Life's too short not to try out another new gun!!! :D
  7.   I love that saying and heard it many times. Those guys were great. My dad was of the greatest generation and I think those guys were a different breed. He taught me to do all kinds of things now considered dangerous. He taught me to shoot and be safe around firearms when I old enough to join the Boy Scouts. I remember at 12 years old ; He and I were winter camping up in Northern Michigan and and he patiently stood by as I tried to start a fire in a snowstorm (with him coaching me), when it finally took,  he said "now your cookin with gas! " He was a great guy and all these toys on the list just made me think of him and the fun we had with him as kids.
  8. I didn't go into the Knifeworks as it was packed with tourists. And the traffic was really bad yesterday as well.
  9. So yesterday I finally drove out to the new Buds Gun shop and range to see what all the fuss was about. Let me say that the store was beautiful. I've been to hundreds of gun stores in my life and this was by far the largest and best laid out I've seen. I was handgun shopping and everything was set up by caliber with all the makes and models arrayed on the wall behind the counter very easily to see. Prices were not as good as Buds online but I knew that going in. That said, prices were very reasonable for handguns. I received excellent service from the staff. They brought out practically every 40 cal handgun they had for me, asked good questions and did their best to fit my requirements. The staff was fairly knowledgeable and I was also helped by the manager who was very knowledgeable , helpful and gave me excellent service.    I finally ended up buying a Steyr M40-A1 which I find to be superb piece of Austrian engineering and a wonderfully accurate pistol (but I'll do a review on that later).   Purchasing was quick and easy with no waiting, filled out my 4473, paid my money and got a free range pass and target and tried out my new purchase. The range was simply outstanding. They had a RSO on duty and the range was nothing short of spectacular. Each lane was well lit and the design of each was clearly meant to minimize sound/noise distraction (which I was thankful for) from the guy 3 lanes down firing his 308 AR.  It worked for the most part and I could blast away in relative comfort! I found the new pistol was reliable and accurate which of course made me happy.  :pleased:   Other observations:  The store over 20,000 square ft. and is a two story set up, most guns on the perimeters and accessories on the floor space (although a number of long guns on the floor to fondle). Ammo prices were higher than big box stores so I didn't buy any, and overall accessories like holsters and mags were on the high end as well. Lots of guns. (like in the matrix movie) Overall rating: Its a great store in my opinion and I'm jaded since I bought my first firearm in 1968 at a gun store in Detroit.    Final thoughts: Worth the drive from Knoxville or if you are visiting the Smokies. Its probably a good place for the wife to drop you off when she goes elsewhere to spend your money.

  11. +1   If not for an unfortunate boating accident where all my guns were lost , I too would be outraged at this idiot.
  12. LOL!! I love my revolvers as well...I may have been born in the wrong century!
  13. VERY well said!!  Happy New Year to you and yours!
  14. From a recent trade I got this M+M Industries Romanian manufactured AK imported by M+M, Inc. directly from Romania, the M10 rifles are manufactured from all new "high quality" components (its a WASR with newer parts IMO) . The marking on the front trunnion denotes the built unit in 2011. The rifles exceed ATF minimum 922R, U.S. made parts compliance requirements. It does have a cold hammer forged barrel with chrome lined bore and chamber which is nice. Lots of tool marks inside and out but the mag well was CNC machined rather than dremeled like a lot of WASR's. My steel mags fit with no wiggle and feed fine. The front sight is attached to the gas block so sight radius is shorter than a standard AK and it has an RPK windage/elevation adjustable rear sight which makes no difference to me as my aging eyes can't see the darn things anyway. It also has a nice Tapco G2 trigger which was stock on the rifle. It also has a Magpul MOE pistol grip with the little compartment handy for storing firing pins and batteries for your red dot. There are many AK's out there but this one is mine! :woohoo:
  15. WOW! thanks for sharing!
  16. I have this on my AR and it works great. Not any louder than a conventional flash hider design and makes a real difference in muzzle rise.  Haven't used it at night so I can't tell you about the amount of flash. But it performs better for me than a conventional "birdcage type ".    http://www.surplusammo.com/saa-5-56mm-dragons-head-muzzle-brake-linear-compensator/

    New toy

really a beautiful rifle! Well done!
  18. there are options for all wood grips but most really make for a bulkier gun. I found these on ebay and they look pretty nice at a good price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RUGER-GP-100-GRIPS-GP-100-SUPER-REDHAWK-GRIPS-NEW-HARDWOOD-HANDMADE-THAILAND-/181505108360?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a428c2988
  19. Okay, I have 2 GP100's ....but more grips than guns. This pic does not even include the rubber Hogues and Pachymars. In your opinion which 2 sets of grips do you think look best? I know its all about what feels best in the hand but I've tried everything and keep going back to the old style factory grips Also the rubber Uncle Mike's feel great but have a slightly different grip angle that forces you to hold your wrist at a slightly different angle. And yes the answer is get another GP100 just because I have plenty of grips for it. I am looking for a 3" or 6' inch at present. thanks for any input.
  20. I love that burnt bronze color. I had an old 1911 done in that same color. Very nice work sir!
  21. Joe,   I sent you a pm. Feeling well. Things could be better but I'm not complaining!   thanks  for asking
  22.  LOL! No meds yet but you hang on to those model 19's. I wish I had mine back.  :)
  23. Thank you Sir! You got a great deal on a GP at $430!  Now maybe you need to trade one of your model 19's away for another GP. :)
  24. I just ordered a darker set for the one on the left from chigsgrips.com in black onyx. He does great work.
