  1. Wow....that french cut is really beautiful! I've not seen that before.......Very nice work!
  2. I have used these guys for years on all my pickups. A.R.E. I have had both aluminum and fiberglass and they make both. I prefer the fiberglass. http://www.4are.com/
  3. Its only news in that it has gotten much worse than the late 60's early 70's.   My hometown is Detroit MI. Born in 1949 back when it was the auto capital of the world. I lived through the riots and saw tanks roll up my street. But there was more of the city that was still safe and productive than now.   I was up there 2 months ago to visit my mother and it looks like a war zone. Detroit is still number one in Murders per capita in the US and the most dangerous city to live in.  All these major cities like Memphis, St. Louis, Chicago, are the same. Violent crime and poverty mixed with unemployment, and many years of liberal governance have turned such places into decay and despair. Frankly, it seems to me especially in the case of Detroit that its too far gone. Perhaps chicago could recover but a lot of these cities are going to go bankrupt and become ghost towns. I'v only visited Memphis once and most of it could be mistaken for Detroit or east St. Louis. Its a shame.
  4. I was in Detroit two months back and got stuck in traffic downtown. It looked like pictures my dad took of Berlin in 1945. I think these Peoples Republic of California folks got the right idea here. All they have to do is enact strict gun laws and make it more difficult to buy ammo and it will be safe to walk down 12th street day or night!!   (fyi - 12th street was the site of the 68 riots and is still one of the most dangerous streets in the Murder Capital)   What a mess this country has become.
  5. I guess its just not important enough for the national mainstream media to cover? Where is the outrage?   http://chicago.cbslocal.com/tag/weekend-violence/   this website is very detailed, almost unbelievable. Glad I don't have to travel to Chicago on business anymore.   http://heyjackass.com/
  6. Clinton suggests she'd consider mandatory gun buy-backs, sparking fears of ‘confiscation’ Published October 18, 2015 Oct. 16, 2015: Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at a town hall meeting in Keene, N.H. (AP) Hillary Clinton said Friday that mandatory gun buy-back programs like ones in Australia are “worth looking into,” sparking criticism that the Democratic presidential front-runner would, if elected, impose gun-confiscation efforts. Clinton made the comments during a campaign stop in Keene, N.H., when an attendee asked about Australia’s 1996 and 2003 buy-back programs that collected roughly 700,000 banned semi-automatic rifles and other firearms. “I think it would be worth considering doing it on the national level, if that could be arranged,” Clinton responded. “This validates what the NRA has said all along,” said Chris Cox, executive director of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action. “The real goal of gun control supporters is gun confiscation.” Cox said Clinton’s comments echo recent ones by President Obama, making “very clear” that the underlying goal of gun-control advocates is confiscation. The issue of tighter gun control and targeting the NRA as leading efforts to keep Congress from passing laws on firearms and background checks resurfaced earlier this month, after a gunman killed nine people at Umpqua Community College in Rosenburg, Oregon. The NRA also says that Clinton believes that the Supreme Court incorrectly determined that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to self-defense. The group made the argument in part based on a purported audiotape obtained The Washington Beacon in which Clinton says, “And I am going to make that case every chance I get.” "Hillary Clinton just doesn’t get it," Cox said. "The NRA’s strength lies in our five million members and the tens of millions of voters who support the Second Amendment. "A majority of Americans support this freedom, and the Supreme Court was absolutely right to hold that the Second Amendment guarantees the fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms," he added. "Hillary Clinton's extreme views are completely out of touch with the American people."
  7. Its been pointed out before here on TGO but the government simply can't physically do the crap Hilary is saying. They can't manage healthcare, can't build a website for it, can't build the F35 fighter, can't manage the TSA, IRS, Secret Service, Fannie May, Freddie Mac, The federal reserve, NSA, CIA, the congress of the United States, SCOTUS, the standing of the United States in the world, protect our data against Chinese and Russian Hackers, Putin, Ukraine, Iraq, Iran Nuclear deal, Afghanistan, North Korea, our $18 trillion Dollar debt!! http://www.usdebtclock.org/   Does anyone really believe they can register every one of the 300 million + guns in the US and set up a national database of them and all their owners data and enforce it?    Sorry for the rant! This just drives me up a wall.  :wall:
  8. I've purchased 2 handguns from Frontier Firearms in the past couple years. They will price match anyone in the state;  and in both cases I found cheaper prices which they verified and honored. They also have a "try before you buy program" which is very cool.    http://www.frontierfirearms.us/#!try-before-you-buy/c12h1   Great group of people - most of the staff are veterans - and very knowledgeable. I live about 45 minutes from them but its worth the drive for me.   Don't know about the "christians 5% deal". I'm Catholic and it doesn't make me want to go there to get the discount just because...they already price match so why institute such a controversial promotion? Seems ill conceived and has nothing to do with the kids who were shot in Oregon. I agree it may come back to hurt them.
  9. I have a 99 Jeep TJ with a soft top and 123K miles. I used it out in Arizona when I was with the Yavapai County Jeep Posse. I found the 4.0 liter straight six the best of all the jeep engines...it will last and last. Jeeps tend to leak a lot and I agree with all thats been said about front and rear main seals , rust, check the frame and skid plates, spend time underneath the chassis and just look for any issues signs of wear or anything recently replaced. Those both look like nice set ups but I like the looks of the red one IMHO. I use mine as a daily driver for many of the same reasons you are looking at. As others have said ...you can expect to be spending more on gas as these vehicles were designed for going off road. Mine has been all over the mountains of Northern Arizona in Yavapai County ..all 6000 square miles of it in very nasty terrain and at some very high elevations 7500ft +. Its personal preference. One cool thing is that here in TN most Jeep owners will wave to you when driving. I guess its a jeep thing.
  10. Sweet rifle and a great find! That wood stock is beautiful! The older Marlins are the best IMHO.
  11. I carry both. Either a Shield in 9MM or a 642 J frame. For the house I have both as well but I like the revolver for home defense. the wife and I have his and hers GP100's.
  12. I always wonder why this happens. Its one guy against say 20-30. If they were trained to rush the shooter? Less casualties?   I can't really add anything of value here. I was growing up in the the early 60's and the percent of households owning guns was higher than today. Inner cities were a mess like they are today. Mass casualty events like school shootings were very rare.   The culture and moral compass of the United States has changed. Political correctness, abortion, music, politics, Americas standing in the world, the quality of leadership and a million other things have contributed to where we are now. And bastards like this POS who killed these kids seem to be everywhere.  Sorry for the rant.
  13. that is a mean looking blade! what is its origin?
  14. I have 3 GP100's..I know..its a habit of mine, I'm going to put these grips on my wife's GP before she decides to take mine!  ;)
  15. Just got these today. Very nice one piece rubber grips. The grip angle is much nicer than hogue grips and feels better. Its about time another company came up with a decent set of grips for the Ruger GP 100. here is the link for more info: http://pachmayr.com/home/diamondpro.php
  16. darn good shooting!! congrats!
  17. Truer words were never spoken.  Our collapse will be worse than any other country.  I am pretty familiar with the Argentine collapse and I think the Balkans experience will mirror what will happen in the US especially in the larger cities. Nothing like the hatred of a civil war going on to stoke the fires of hatred even more so.
  18. Appendix carry: I don't carry that way for two reasons: Its actually less comfortable for me and I feel restricts my movement in almost every way. Secondly, is the pucker factor of realizing that the barrel of the handgun is pointed at my femoral artery.    So I too have ruled that mode of carry out.
  19. The previous thread got me to thinking about this guy.I came across this guy - Selco - who survived in the Balkans during that particularly nasty war and what he offers in formation is pretty enlightening. Its less about preps and more about true survival. With all the crap going on in the country we still somehow think we won't be as bad as some third world place or worse. Check it out. I'm not suggesting you take his course. Just read his blog. Its free and it has a lot of good information on surviving. He writes in broken english but you get the picture.   http://shtfschool.com/
  20. Like some of you I am reasonably well prepared. I used to be a medic and later a civilian Paramedic and have my medical bag pretty well stocked. We are good for water short term and have a couple of year round fresh water sources close by we could use. But we are lacking in long term (shelf life) food staples. My eldest son and his family live less than a mile away and we have a bug in plan. The big issue and its only for me really is prescription drugs which I can't really stockpile. I'm in remission for my cancer but have some meds for a bad heart valve I must take. I wouldn't last in a long term SHTF situation but my family is healthy and I have 3 adult sons close by with a good plan in place. They are all knowledgeable and experienced guys and could take care of things when I'm gone.   I expect there are lots of folks who depend on meds that will be the first to go. Of course I never thought I would be one of em.
  21. Wow! Thats a monster! Love to see some pics!
  22. I have a steyr M40 A1. About the size of a Glock 19/23 . The sights work just fine for my aging eyes. You can get very precise as the tip of the front sight is really the aiming point. It's like shooting XS big dots except these don't cover the target and you can acquire them super fast. I like the super low bore axis and the soft recoil in the 40 as well. The Steyr is built like a tank. The whole fire control unit is a self contained heavy duty system. Only complaint is its a fat gun.  Great shooter. Very reliable. Nice grip in the hand.
  23. I do not agree that any of our constitutional rights automatically apply to those in the country ILLEGALLY.  Legally in the country but not a citizen yet then maybe yes.  Citizenship used to be  privilege for those not born here. Apparently the court feels that just being here is a "right". Might as well end the debate and let them vote too.  Give anyone who got here from another country automatic citizenship. Just send em up to the DMV.
  24. All this crap really is starting to piss me off. Both of my Grandfathers entered the country Legally in 1914. Both fought in World War I. My grandpa on my dads side spent a year in a VA hospital after being gassed with Mustard gas. And both had to wait until the 1930's and pass a test before they were granted citizenship. I don't understand why it was not okay back then to make folks prove themselves then but it is now. What a mess. They do not have the right unless they are Legal. Period. I do not agree that any of our constitutional rights automatically apply to those in the country ILLEGALLY.  Legal but not a citizen yet then yes.    end of rant   :usa:
  25. Beautiful workmanship! Just stunning really. Nicer than anything I saw after 2 hours at Smokey Mountain Knife Works!
