  1. I am sure that Ruger's line of M77 Magnum rifles that hover around $1800 are considered a totally different ball park than any 10/22 magnum you could cough up...despite the rarity.
  2. .40 s&w will not ever be a SAMMI rated +P round.
  3. No....it is a sub 25,000 psi round. Mathmatically more surface area with the same amount of pressure = more force applied to the object in question. If a 45acp has 50% more surface area than a .40s&w it requires 50% less pressure to do the same amount of work.
  4. Did the poop have little bells in it and smell like cayenne pepper? If not - you are safe.
  5. It is actually a SP-101. If you can find one under $600 - pick it up. They didn't make many.

    Blue Tooth?

If it takes a memory card (micro-SD usually) just move the pictures via it. You may have to buy a memory card reader for your computer, but they are cheap and very useful.
  7. Geez...yeah I keep forgetting those trigger groups are polymer now. They are tight, but man it just doesn't feel right. You are right I have it on record of being February - March of 2008 when they started rolling the investment casting unit to Polimer.
  8. Yes..what he said. All 10/22 22lr rifles have aluminum receivers and trigger guards...has always been that way. The should put a "no brake cleaner" warning on them as it eats the finish like a fat kid eats cake. light coat of clear poly on the trigger guard and receiver will fix you up for a long time. Make sure to plug all the holes as the extra thickness from the poly will cause things to be too tight.
  9. Here are a couple of my shooters...
  10. There are few joys greater than renting a full size car only to end up getting a white Impala or Crown Vic. Then driving 30mph under the speed limit everywhere you go.
  11. Any handgun...any price. They can bring their Strahan 1911s if they wish. Remember that is gets much more difficult once you stretch out past 20 yards. I have no doubts at all that someone here could readily do it at 10 yards standing - Not crazy enough bet on that. Before someone takes me up on this challenge I suggest they try it out at their home range first. Try it out at 5, 10, 15, 20, and then finally 25.
  12. 2400 (if you like the manufacturer) has been the de-facto standard for .357 magnum for as long as it has been made. It is very forgiving, provides a wide range of loads for all bullets, meters well, and does not require magnum primers. It is a bit dirty....the only drawback. 158 SWC with 1.0cc of 2400 (that would be 13.5 grains) is a wonderful load....not too hot to kill brass life. Not too mild to where you would ever think that you are shooting a .38 special.
  13. Absolutely calling out everyone else! I shoot a LOT for a really long time and haven't been able to pull off 5 shot centerfire freehand at 25 yards to the sum of 1" Not at all saying that it can't be done either because there are some Camp Perry Highmasters that may be able to pull it off on a good day. Have been fishing many times also. Have never caught a 20 pound largemouth. I have seen a picture or two so I know that they exist. But I would be willing to pay money to see someone pull one in. Would pay to see one meet the challenge. Heck I have been a "host" for the same challenge for a year now (at a even shorter 15 yards) and have had no winners.
  14. People are very good intentioned, but overly optimistic. There are some very, VERY good shooters out there. I have no doubt in my mind that there are quite a few that can pull a 2"-3" group freehand...have done it with a target rimfire (one of the mods here has seen it) and a lot of luck, but the smaller you get - the more difficult it is on an almost logarithmic scale. The guns are capable of doing it. The human nervous system is not. However I am not going to be impossibly surprised if someone shows up with the right combo of gun and handload (and Valium) and makes it happen. Actually have the $200 sitting in my safe.
  15. If you can shoot a .50AE measuring the entire 5 shot string outside to outside minus the diameter of the bullet for a "true" one inch group....I will honor the above contest.
  16. 25 yards....Simply because I have a couple of friends here in Chattanooga who might get lucky and actually be able get one in at 15. I have edited and made it consistent above However If you show up and can't do it at 25 - I will, just for good humor, reduce it to 15 just as a humbling experience.
  17. I agree - It will be fun. And no wishy washy stuff either. I will not accept a challenge from someone in a 30 pound shooting jacket with a ransom rest bolted to it and their arm. Or a wiseguy who bolts 25 yards of metal pipe to the front of the gun and the bullseye of the target. Traditional shooting, standing shots, real gun with price as no object, no gimmicks. Edit...here is the link to the original challenge CLICK HERE
  18. OK guys ... I've been taking some flack about my comments of late regarding accuracy claims that have been posted recently, so I've decided to PUT UP rather than SHUT UP. A friend of mine posted a similar challenge on my Rugerforum for one year with no takers. For all you guys that seem to think that 1 inch groups at 25 yards are chump change ... i challenge you to PROVE IT !!! I therefore formally issue this challenge to all TGO members. It shall from here on be known as I_Like_Pie's ONE INCH CHALLENGE #################################################### The rules #################################################### OPEN TO ALL BRANDS OF CENTERFIRE HANDGUNS OF ANY CALIBER ... no optics. For every time that any shooter can shoot a 5 shot (5 shots per target), hand held (no rests) group that fits inside a 1 inch circle I'll give you $20. For every time that you FAIL to shoot 5 shots into a 1 inch circle, you give me $1. That's TWENTY TO ONE ODDS. #################################################### I reserve the right to limit my losses to $200 (not including the money I take in from failures to shoot the 1 inch groups). I put no restrictions on the amount of times you can shoot, what ammo you use, or the time you take to shoot. Put 5 shots into a 1 inch circle hand held and I pay ... no questions, no excuses. If it can't be contained within that 1 inch circle ... you pay ... simple as that. I'm not testing for accuracy, so the groups can be anywhere on that paper ... I don't care. You put 5 out of 5 shots into a one inch circle hand held at 25 yards and I pay. Come on guys ... make some easy money. Since it's my challenge, the challenge will need to take place on my neutral turf, so if there are any takers, let me know, and we'll arrange a time at my range in Chattanooga, TN to hold the first (and probably only) I_Like_Pie's ONE INCH CHALLENGE. If there is a trusted moderator who will host in Nashville I will arrange a trip up there (my sister lives in Nashville) to witness the event. The worst that can happen is that we'll do some shooting, and afterwards get something to eat and have a few drinks and BS about guns. Any takers ?????? Now's the time for ALL you internet marksmen to stand proud, and show off your prowess ! C'mon ... make some easy money from a disbeliever !!!! I double-dog-dare you !!!
  19. Yeah....thinking about it more that would have got in the top 3 at the 1800 Bullseye competition also if he could have done the same at 50 yards. And those guys are hard core!!!!! Most pistols can not even group 1.5" at 50 yards - not even close.
  20. No kidding...if he is hitting the actual 1.5" golf at 45 yards freehand he would have place top 5 in last weeks silhouette competition at my local club...and they were using custom built CZ target rifles! Were you guys trying to hit the milk jugs and using the golf balls as an indicator as a hit or were you guys actually hitting the actual golf balls? Either way that is really good shooting!
  21. I had one made up by a holster maker Kenneth Null. HERE It is a $100+ holster, but man alive I doubt that there could be anything made to beat it. Somewhat locally made too.
  22. I have used ultra fine, lightweight monofiliment fishing line to things that I don't want to back out in places that I still need to occasionally remove Gripframes for my large caliber revolvers, mounting plugs....etc. Works quite well.
  23. Agreed...There is just something satisfying about having "lesser" equipment and the ability to outperform others with better equipment and "lesser" skill. I have actually experienced this before and it is very satisfying. Nothing quite like passing a palindrome of Lightspeeds on a $400 Nashbar.
  24. Why would you do that if you could sell the gun to a collector who will give you more than what a Model 77 costs? Edit - I have seen them sell for $600 used on my forum. They are NOT going to go down in value either. Edit again - there is one selling there now for $650 --->Here
  25. I have some .38 special loads that I have been using since the 1980's. They must have 40 or 50 reloads. Often the primer pocket wears out before I get a split. With magnum loads in a .357 you just shoot them till you get a split. Not need to fire anneal them as they are cheap to replace. 10-12 reloads is not uncommon - Especially if you don't bell them out as mentioned above. This is easier to do with jacketed bullets because a small bell will shave lead. If you under do it when opening the case mouth you may have a problem with the bullet seating hard and ballooning the whole case....can be corrected to the point of no worry by using a factory crimp die.
